Had another cracking little session on the float with my lad tonight :

11 x little Crucian. ( first time I`ve caught any for years )
2 x 1lb Roach
2 x Crucian hybrids
1 x Goldfish ( obs been chucked in by someone )

Transferred all of them to the pond on the golf course that we`re stocking on the sly.

My lad who`s a hard core carp man, was made up with the two decent roach he caught

Yep-they’ve got the stretch of the Avon near to where I am opposite the RSC. Haven’t fished it for a few years but am going to try and get down there before the football starts again and the rods go back in the garage

Anyone got any tips for getting rid of blanket weed ?

Me and my lad have been stocking a new pond on a local golf course on the sly - Roach and Crucian Carp so far, with plans to introduce Tench and then a few Perch once the sliver fish and crap have established themselves.

It`s about half an acre in size, about a year old and looks to be healthy, as it`s got frogs and water insects. So far non of the fish we`ve put in appear to have died, but it`s got a lot of blanket weed on it.

I`ve been going down there when it`s dark and manually clearing it with a rake head and a rope, but I`m barely scratching the surface.

I`ve seen that you can buy chemical stuff that kills it, that is safe to fish and pond life, but it`s about £100 a tub, which I don`t want to spend.

I`m thinking of maybe buying some small Grass Carp from a local aquarium and putting them in, as apparently they love blanket weed, but I`m worried that once they started growing, they`d be visible to the golfers and word would spread and people would try and catch them.

Any ideas ?

Go ahead with the grass carp plan but also invest in a sighted sniper rifle, cam net and seek some natural cover nearby.
Pick off any random golfers who venture too close showing an interest.

We intend to night fish it once the fish have established themselves next year

After many years of fishing rivers and commercials, now concentrating solely on the Oxford canal.
Because of the fixed water width, I've bough a 6m and 7m telescopic whip for 2 different swims I fish which are perfect for float fishing. I see anglers pushing their laden trollies full of tackle and poles costing £100's. Real overkill for the cut!

I`m hoping against hope, that it hasn`t wiped out the couple of dozen Roach we`ve put in, as from what I`ve read they`ll keep visiting a pond until they`ve emptied it !!!!!

There are trout to be caught in the Avon near Ryton on dunsmore, I’ve had them. Barbel in there now too.

Yep, they emptied my pond, and a pal of mines too.

The mad thing is that you have to get a licence to kill them, even if they are causing havoc.

Looking a lot of the fishing forums, a lot of them tend to get shot " accidentally " when the pond owner is shooting squirrels and rabbits

First little session of the year.

Me and my lad took a couple of float rods down to the local pond, just to see if the warmish weather this week had woken them up.

Fished for about an hour on maggot and caught 3 x roach ( one decent ) 2 x goldfish / carp hybrids and a brown goldfish.

They were a bit sluggish when reeling them in, so I`m guessing that they`ll need another couple of weeks to warm up properly.
