You could well be right ! Just enjoyed the end so much I was laughing at each twist - just disappointed hateful 8 hasn’t been on sky yet as that also was very black !

Just watched "Northwest Passage" from 1940 with Spencer Tracy and Robert Young.
Great film, not the first time I've seen it, but with my memory it was like watching it anew.
Synopsis:
An epic Western, about Major Robert Rogers (Spencer Tracy), the tough frontiersman who led a band of backwoodsmen (Robert's Rangers) on a gruelling expedition to Canada in 1759 to punish a fearsome Indian tribe and seek a northwest passage to the Pacific.

I went to see Once Upon A Time In Hollywood tonight. Typical Tarantino brilliance and I thought DiCaprio and Pitt worked really well together. Their final scenes were outlandishly entertaining.

I'd say it's closer to Jackie Brown than any of his other films but it's very much its own beast. I loved how authentic everything looked. No CGI bullshit and his twist on history was classy.

Just watched "Executive Suite" from 1956.
Another great film, featuring a host of wonderful actors (see accompanying poster).
They don't make films like this today. No special effects. Just a great story told by outstanding actors.
Synopsis:
The plot depicts the internal struggle for control of a furniture manufacturing company after the unexpected death of the company's CEO. Executive Suite was nominated for multiple Academy Awards, including for Nina Foch's performance, which earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination.

Just watched "Quo Vadis" from 1951.
Peter Ustinov is brilliant as the demented Emperor Nero.
Synopsis:
At the time it was produced this was the highest grossing movie from MGM after Gone With the Wind (1939). This remarkable epic takes place during a fascinating period in ancient history. It offers as spectacular a cast as it does sets, costumes, and everything else that could rightly be construed as colossal. Between the slaughter of innocent Christians in the arena, half of Italy starring as Roman citizens, and sets that dwarf even Ustinov, is a story of Roman commander Marcus Vinicius (Robert Taylor) serving under the berserk Emperor Nero (Peter Ustinov). While Vinicius at first seems indifferent to the plight of the persecuted Christians, he soon sympathizes with them when he falls in love with a Christian girl, Lygia (Deborah Kerr), causing them both to be thrown to the lions.

Just watched "The Liquidator" from 1966.
Never heard of this film before tonight, but it was brilliant.
Featuring Rod Taylor, Trevor Howard and Jill St. John plus a host of great supporting actors.
Theme song sung by Shirley Bassey!
It's a British spy caper, not unlike a James Bond film.
Has beautiful locations, beautiful women, car chases and some comedy touches.
Most of the action takes place in the South of France.
Thoroughly recommended if you can unearth it.

I love Tarantino but this was nowhere near the same level as PF, RD and JB. It felt as though he was indulging himself throughout and found it lacking in terms of plot and substance.

yeah he was very good. so were the terrorist actors. jason isaacs became likeable near end too.

Looking forward to "The Irishman" being released through Netflix any time soon (trailer now available). Gangster film directed by Martin Scorcese and starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. If you remember, Pesci and DeNiro were also in Scorcese's Goodfellas, with Pacino starring in the Godfather trilogy. "The Irishman" looks set to be a cracker!

Been waiting ages to see this film.
Even though I've got Netflix thinking of going to see it at the Everyman in Brum when it gets a showing the evening we play Tranmere.

not soon, late october or november i believe. think may get cinema release for 2 weeks exclusivly first last i read

also its over 3 hours and reviewers saying its just too long and it holds it back

but yeah still looking forward to it

Premier screening all UK Embassy cinemas - 13th October.
Limited cinema release - 07th November, (I think, definitely early November).
Netflix - Nov 27th .

yup so quite a while away, breaking bad movie soon though

i made a man cave home cinema with projector so use that for big netflix releases

It's been years since I read the book, (I heard you paint houses), and many years since Scorsese announced he was making this film and there were many times it looked as though it wouldn't happen so two months doesn't seem like too long now.
Just hope it lives up to expectations.

Fortunately I went into the cinema anticipating a character study, self indulgent Tarantino film so I wasn't surprised by it's slow pace and meandering story. The Sharon Tate stuff probably flew over most people's heads, especially those under 30.

It was Tarantino's love letter to a bygone era in Hollywood and I think he pulled it off really well. Everything looked genuinely of that time and I thought the whole thing was really enjoyable, especially the way Pitt and Dicaprio played off each other.

I do understand why some people didn't like it though. I came out of The Hateful Eight disappointed but now it's a favourite. It's the kind of film that gets better the more you watch it perhaps.

My one gripe was the Al Pacino casting. He was wasted in that role.

Looking forward to The Irishman but three hours is way too long for most films. Wolf of Wall Street had no right to gon on for three hours.

Gladiator and Godfather are epics and can go on for three hours.

Wolf Of Wall Street flies by for me. There's not much flab on that film.

If a film uses the time well I would be happy to watch 3-4hrs. It's when these comic book films dick about forever with nonessential exposition that numbs my brain as well as my arse.

From reviews I've read, The Irishman doesn't drag.

WOWS is one of my favourite films, brilliant from start to finish.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, I think the reviews have over hyped it.

I loved the Dark Knight trilogy with Christian Bale, and IMO, this film is nowhere near as good.

Would like to hear your thoughts after though. Maybe I'm being a little tough on it as I expected so much more.

Yeah I thought Dark Knight with Heath Ledger was brilliant.

I get a bit like that with films too, look forward to them too much. It was the same with the Equalizer, loved the first as it was slick and brutal, the second I thought was gash.
