If next weekend is anything similar to this one then McLaren are surely going to have to throw their weight behind one driver else they run a real risk of Max sneaking in and pinching the title and if he does, it will surely be the greatest comeback in the history of the sport.

Trouble is, who do they pick? Piastri seems to have lost his head at the moment. And Lando, with the greatest respect, always has a mistake in him.

The big mistake they've made was shutting down car development as early as they did to focus on next year. The other top teams all pushed one more upgrade and they're all in the ball park now.

They’re just so unlikable

US Grand Prix: Red Bull fined after trying to remove tape marking Lando Norris' grid position

Red Bull are fined 50,000 euros after a team member tried to remove the tape marking Lando Norris' grid position for the United States Grand Prix.

Even as a lifelong McLaren fan it would be pretty funny if Max won.

All Lando has to do is not drive into the back of Max tomorrow and he should do fairly well in terms of the championship…

I think I've changed my mind, I actually think it would be funnier if Lando won the title now. Oscar shitting the bed, Max on a barn storming charge with all the momentum and Lando to pip them both in the last race after being so underwhelming would be hilarious

Oscar is done. Hes absolutely fell off a cliff. Its between Lando and Max now and Max is the much superior driver

If he pulls this off stick him right up there as GOAT

Good fucking lord, what a stonking lap. Max in P5 and Oscar in P8, he can't ask for much more.

Turn 1 is going to be incredible.

This is Landos title to lose

Max cannot afford to finish behind him at any point and probably will today, and Oscar has absolutely lost his head. Ive never seen such a drop off from a title leader since Button in 09. But he was already so far ahead it didn't matter

Wow, Piastri in reverse. Time for Lando to drive off into the sunset now (hopefully)

The fact Max hasn't got a penalty out of any of that is a joke.

Sainz was behind a barrier, it wasn't needed at all.

Think this race has all but confirmed my love for F1 has gone. Steward’s are an absolute joke.

In Lando's hands now. He needs to go grab it. Had my doubts about him, but to be fair he's kept plugging away whilst Oscar flounders.

Agreed

That was set for a grandstand finish with Max on Leclerc and Oscar on Bearman, and they absolutely ruined it

Overall though, they all bunch up closer, 35 points between the 4 of them, 4 races and 2 sprints to go

If either of the McLaren drivers win it they will be the weakest champion since Villeneuve in 97. I dont think anyone has either of them in their top 3 current drivers

Thought that was a good race (apart from the VSC). There's a lot of driver talent out there.

They are pathetic.

Don’t even get me started on the penalties to Hamilton and the lack of penalties for everyone else.

There needs to be a permanent set of stewards for the whole season.

I cant quite remember a championship leader having quite the Fall off Piastri has had. He seems absolutely cooked, a real surprise as he looked so laid back up until Monza

Im having to eat some humble pie on Lando also, its well known i always found him mentally weak with poor racecraft, but when it matters he has shown some great mental strength and has found another level with his speed

I still feel whichever of the 2 wins the title is the weakest world champion since Villeneuve in 97, but youve got to say its looking very much like Lando will be the man

Strange driver Norris - that Dutch retirement looked like it had finished his challenge. Still think his major weakness is his starts and lap one driving - something Verstappen excels at and Piastri had been very good at. Puts himself in bad positions that he struggles to recover from - that can make him take stupid risks.
Still it's a fairly unique situation where a leading team doesn't have a number one driver - something that has helped Verstappen and Hamilton a lot in their championship wins ( team orders, preferential car/crew management etc).

Wowzers, what have Red Bull done to the car?

Mind you, he started about there last year and won with ease, so he's still not out of it. Car looked an absolute dog though.

With Max starting from the pitch lane, Lando really needs to nail the first lap and get the win today.
