Il be honest , I don't know how I'd set up against Italy , another pundit alluded to that too saying he wasn't sure how we should set up .

It’s gonna be same team I’d think, I can’t see Southgate changing too much, not in his nature

Well if anything, it’d be good to beat them to end their record. Even better to do it in a major final.

Can't do it, I'm useless on a hangover, plus a 12 hour shift is a killer anyway.

I’d agree with anyone else apart from Italy.. apart from Germany maybe

I think I saw somewhere on Opta that Italy have a 69% chance of winning- don’t know how they work it out but I think it’s based on all the stats from matches so far

The stattos at Goldman Sachs reckon we have a 58% chance of winning and are predicting England to win in extra time. They predicted 2-1 v Denmark and the same for Sunday.

I have had a few disagreements with mates on this, but Italy haven’t looked that good in the knockout stages. Their impressive win against Belgium was flanked by an unimpressive extra time win against Austria and they were second best against Spain. If I’m harsh, I think their group stage was harder on paper than in reality and that’s padded their stats. It’s going to be a tough game against them!

Are they beatable? Absolutely.

My days off have fallen really well for this tournament, only had to book a couple off.

And England’s extra time win was a penalty against 10 men

I’d argue that the only reason they had 10 men was that they were under so much pressure that they had to use up all their subs. So we basically forced them to play with 10

England 2 - 1 Italy AET

Kane x 2 and tournament top scorer

I predicted Italy would be dark horses and then an England V Italy final despite Italy only winning in Rome.
I reckon England will prosper - probably 2-1

We could caveat that, but anyone watching the game would have felt we had the beating of Denmark from around the 70th minute. They defended well, but we passed on 2-3 really good attacking opportunities when we were 2-1 up.

It’s an academic point to make, but I believe we would have scored anyway had Sterling’s penalty not been given.

The game was a complete reversal from 2018, we looked quite fresh even in extra time.

Humble pie, in Gareth we trust
I've begrudgingly accepted that he probably knows better than me so whatever the line up I believe that he'll get it right

It was actually before that, as it was the 63rd minute when the Danes forced the 4-5 min break in play by having their chap sit on the floor whilst they sorted out their subs, and then farted around some more, had a drinks break and provided new team instructions. The tactic worked in putting us out of out stride for a while.

I was actually shocked how early Denmark tried to close the game down. It was only a little after an hour, that means if they were playing for pens with only half of the game gone.

You don't do that against a team you consider your equal.

I love how Southgate has them playing in phases where they are less intense and just keep the ball for a little bit to preserve energy. Doing that, and also being able to make so many subs when they were comfortably winning in the previous game, is probably why they seem so fresh.

It’s a really alien feeling after watching England since 1982 but maybe we are just good now. We have enough players to hurt Italy and a home advantage so who knows. In a sense we have already achieved more than ever in 55 years so perhaps the pressure is off like City in 87

I think their manager making all those subs early prevented the game from being ended within 90 minutes. It was also a shrewd move from Southgate to make the one sub in normal time. We were in complete control in extra time and that was epitomised by the way we just kept the ball for a few minutes to see the game out.

Good stuff, well managed.

I would do nothing different than he has done up to now. Trying to get clever in such a massive game could backfire

I’m currently in Lampedusa at the moment so a bit cut off my from it. My Italian friends have had little expectations though, so they’re playing without the usual pressure that comes with tournaments here. The failure to qualify in 2018 was like a political scandal in the UK.
My neighbour has set up a giant screen in his garden for Sunday though with 100 beers for the occasion.

I think if we actually managed to win on Sunday and get the hoodoo off our backs we could end up going deep pretty regularly. It's getting that first trophy and winning feeling, monkey off your back etc.

It would be good to be viewed by other big teams as one of them instead of just putting ourselves there.

With the World Cup being next year, it’s very good for momentum and then the following Euros in 2024.

Looking at the squad, most of them will be around for the next 6-10 years at least. The only area of ‘concern’ we have is developing future world class central defenders.
