It’s alright people saying the season must be concluded no matter what ‘even If it means next
season starting later or being a shorter program but how will that effect players contracts at
individual clubs not to mention loans etc.
This season has fallen victim to a virus and a virus that will ‘no doubt have extremely serious
ramifications for not just professional sport but all kinds of things and will probably impact on
The way we live our everyday lives.
I think it would be a huge mistake to let the unfortunate demise of this season continue into
Next, draw a line under it now
Premier. Liverpool Champs, Top 4 as is.
Championship. Top 2 Promoted
League 1. Top 2 promoted
League 2. Top 3 promoted

No Relegation from any league ‘after all nobody ever complained about not being relegated.
When you’re more than 3/4 of the way through the campaign it’s to far in to null & void.
Only Clubs in playoffs position would have any room to complain ‘but it is an unprecedented
Situation and I cannot think of a fairer way.

But if the EPL says they're finishing the season How can the EFL do anything different?
The PL/championship Promotion and relegation has to be sorted before a season can start so the Chapionship has to operate on the same timescale as the PL surely?
I can't see the EFL doing anything different to the EPL. I can't see how it can work.

Yup. You cannot have a disparity, otherwise it won't work.

Forget about next season for now. Concentrate on this. Next season could easily be a reduced season, but so many problems with just voiding this one and though other options will cause some degree of unhappiness with a number of clubs, the notion of voiding it, will have so many clubs angry and up in arms. Fans too.

Agree.

No relegations would make some sense, but that means Bolton dodge a massive bullet.

It has been clear for sometime the season will not be completed. We will be lucky if we are coming out of this by September at the earliest.

I am anticipating the season being expunged.

zero chance of that happening Hobo. As soon as they say that Sky will say you need to pay us back 25% of the money for the games you have missed. As soon as that happens premiership chairmen will insist the games are played rather than give back 25-30 mil. All the other sponsors of the leagues will want their money back as well. As per normal money will decide what happens and it will be finish the season.

Then so be it, but of course they could kick off again with the same points deduction.

There will be winners and losers whichever way is chosen but no relegation means nobody is seriously harmed financially.

The only losers will be :emoji_thinking: well losers in all honesty, clubs that weren’t good enough after 3/4 of the season
to make Top 4 of premier league or automatic promotion spots in the other leagues.
I think most would reluctantly take it on the chin.
To deny Liverpool and all other clubs in auto positions would be a catastrophic and very expensive
Mistake by the respective league associations imho

Why on Earth are we wasting valuable time discussing this, when we could be using our time more productively creating fictional teams of players who all looked like Winston Churchill as a baby?

Is that players who as babies looked like an older Winston Churchill or grown players who looked like Winston Churchill did as a baby?

Some could say points per game seems fairest but we are talking about the EFL here. And looking at the table, Wycombe who are 3rd in the PPG stats are only 8th in points. They would have reason to argue for PPG, but Peterborough would be moved out of the "playoffs" if Wycombe were granted that 3rd position. I don't think Darragh MacAnthony would like that at all. It's a good job we're clear at the top otherwise I could see the SISU lawyers rubbing their hands together (and no hand sanitizer in sight ). Ultimately, there is no right answer to resolve this quickly and someone will complain unless we complete the season, even behind closed doors.

If it's the former that's just about everyone.

Ironically the only known person who didn't look like Winston Churchill as a baby was Winston Churchill. True fact.

How about using the cricket way of sorting things out - along the lines of the Duckworth/Lewis method, suitably tweaked for use in football. Don't know how it works, but then I think it's a mystery to some cricket fans.

Problem is this may happen again next season what if it mutates and no one is immune again.
Do they again have another lockdown?
Best to cut the amount of games played for one season to get us back to normal the following season.
They could cut the leagues in half with the top and bottom teams having a playoffs for top spot and relegation.
Bit like the world series.

I know there was only one game left in Belgium when they called time On their league but would that set a precedent with uefa or fifa at all for other countries to follow?

If we can get back and play the season out in a time frame that we can simply run on into the next season with say a weeks break to organise then it should be preferable to all. No pre season would be needed.
However I do think it's clutchng at straws. The season should be ended now, award the results on the points ratio basis which is fair.
If not and some teams come back and display a loss in form from this lay off, then results will not reflect on the previous 35 games or so. That would be very unfair. Can you imagine the scenario we lost the first 4 games and fell to the playoffs? Some teams now would have all previous members of their squads injured back fit changing teams dynamic. That can't be right?
Had the season been less than half way finished then it would be different. As it is is pretty much howthings were highly likely to finish. Thelikes of us, Leeds,WBA, no one will argue with.

Wycombe are 3 points behind Rotherham with a game in hand?

I think it makes it easier that we have the scenario of Liverpool being 25 points clear in the Premier, Leeds being 7 points clear in the Championship, City being 7 points clear in League 1 and with a game in hand.

I mean, it's it even close is it for those clubs.

League 2 is a lot more tight, but when the FA an EFL look at the tables, I do think it makes the option to go with 'as stands' a little easier.

Let's face it. Delaying any firm decision is simply to test reactions to the options available. The legal team will decide the least financially damaging to the FA, PL &/or FL...& bugger what the fan's want or think

3pm games on TV law has been relaxed by UEFA which points to discussions based firmly on games behind closed doors and all accesible on TV/online.

Seems to me like BCD is the way to go. If all the players have been isolating it should pave the way for the games to be able to go ahead in relative safety.

Uefa have opened up the option now for TV games at 3pm on a Saturday too, so that is making the option easier still.

Let's see what they say if this carries on for another 12weeks shall we?
The only foreseeable end imo is an effective vaccine &/or anti-viral or continue as we are until there are no more newly infected

But even if it continues for 12 weeks, the players should have been all self-isolating, so that combined with no fans should make things relatively safe to resume.

I'd be surprised if they would like to but, although the Gov't haven't put an official embargo on such sports events...those involved in making a behind closed doors fixtures happen aren't deemed to be essential staff are they? So unless the Gov't change their 'advice' I cannot see it happening...there are too many clowns who would venture to stadia to shout n sing outside the ground

I think it would be an arrestable offence. Barriers up outside and a bit of police presence would suffice I think.

Added to that, that a stark waning that it will all be shutdown again if fans start to congregate.
