Dry January (1 Viewer)

I also haven’t had a drink since the turn of the year and not really felt the urge to either. Think it’s massively helpful that I’ve seen fairly significant weight loss which will in part be due to the cut back. Always seem to get slimmer at this time of year and then when the beer gardens open I turn into an elephant again!

Edit: I’ve also decided, on the food front, to have one day a month of just eating shit. Haven’t had many snacks aside from grapes for the last 6-7 weeks - my partner bought some Lindt’s for valentines and haven’t even got round to opening them yet.
When I quit I lost about 3 stone in 6 months just from the booze and associated snacking calories alone (I think).

I then plateaued and had to actually work on diet.

For me a few drinks would often lead to a bad Just Eat decision.

It’s been an extremely wet February for me - today’s prospect of the Albion match immediately followed by the England Rugby will not help 😳

Non drinkers really miss out on gems at the local skanky boozers I frequent.

There’s a Neanderthal couple who have the same seat every day.

Other guy walks in

“Ain’t seen you for a bit mate”

“I’ve been on holiday to Morocco”

“Ain’t that where them pyramids are like”

“No but it’s near”

“So you could still see em from the hotel window then?”

Nothing better than rough pubs.

Nothing better than being sober in a rough pub at 11PM and hearing it though.

I've cut down massively, mainly because I could never go to football and have 2 then come home. Always really been all or nothing so would either go out all day and hit it hard or just have none at all.

My local ( The Nugget ) is a great pub , but it opens at 10am on a Friday , Saturday and Sunday. I enjoy a pint but honestly couldn’t imagine being in the pub at that time of day .

Haven't been inside a pub for many months. I just get through a litre bottle of scotch a week at home. Need to take my mind off looking after 'er indoors. Just opened a bottle of Ouzo as I've ran out of Bells!

Last beer 1st January and going for the full year off it. Going to be some tough decisions along the way, but relatively easy so far with the shite weather.

That's the one that was the Sky Blue for a while, isn't it?

Still off the booze.
Apart from a glass of wine on Christmas Day and New years Eve last year, it's now over four years since I 'gave up' (cutting back is the phrase I always use, rather like I'm still 'trying' to pack in smoking, even though I haven't had one since 1983).
No weight lost. In fact I'm sure I'm heavier now. That's pretty shit 😉

Why the weight ? If you are disciplined enough with the pop which is impressive you should be able to do food also ?

I know it's a bit of a cliché, but I don't over-eat, and we eat very healthily - no issues with cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.
Age comes into it I guess (very low testosterone), and I've always been low on the metabolism bit. Lack of exercise is probably my biggest issue.
I seem to have spent most of my approaching 73 years watching my weight, even when I cycled daily, played squash, footy, rugby, etc.

I think I must have a lower testosterone level as well - my wife and walk virtually everyday - from 1 Mile to about 4 - even if it’s raining we can walk around the block which take 30 mins - keeps my weight constant and helps with circulation - even if you do a short walk it’s pretty beneficial

I watch the food but I love chocolate , curry , beer , fish and chips so it gets rationed 😁

I walk the mutt, but that's it these days. Must get off my arse more, but by the time I've done that and spent time on the camper project, I'm knackered!
I love all those things (more cider than beer) but scarcely touch them😪

Keep at it 😁 we need to get another dog it’s been 5 years now - we have kept walking after he left the building

Approaching 3 months sober.

I must say, I feel amazing. Definitely fitter and faster as well as feeling good in my mind.

Not sure where to go from here really. I don't really want to drink at all, but got some decent events coming up. Wonder if I can just drink only on special highlighted occasions going forwards. Never really been someone that drinks for the sake of it, but often go for it when the time is right, which is probably not healthy as I struggle to stop once a session has started.

Curious to hear from anyone else that has done this.

Well done keep it up - you have clearly shown you don’t need it 😉 maybe promise yourself a small one when we get promoted

I'll consider it. The longer the days go the less I feel it though. Went to a match over here yesterday, beautiful Sunday afternoon in the sun, not even tempted. It is a bizarre revelation!

Good for you.

I’ve been drinking again since the start of the month and I’ve noticed the difference in my sleep being worse and anxiety the day after having 2/3 beers.

I am considering taking an extended break from the start of May.

Your experience is my fear. Sounds like a good shout to reset again, but you have done very well this year.

I am seriously considering not drinking again at all, but there are some highs from drinking as well. It is a tough one.

Feeling the benefit of being off it here too. Sleep is a solid 8, 9 or 10 out of 10 every single night, and being so much more productive. Mentally flying.

Physically I'm not really feeling the weight loss or fitness at the minute but that's because I'm not working on it. It's definitely something I'll need to have my eye on in the near future. Can't keep consuming cakes at the rate I am  .

Got some big events coming up which will be testing at times, but absolutely no doubt in my mind I'll be doing the whole year. Not even a promotion party in Cov town can get in my way! :D
