Is it just me or don't they get cleaned out and more by the side of the road?

Bit of rain last night, roads all flooded because the drains are blocked and the roads are full of holes.

Doesn't seem like it. See quite a few that have been full of rubbish since last winter and have still not been cleared.

What happened to those little vans with the hoovers on that went round? Do they still exist?

It would save so much hassle and probably help with the road conditions if there wasn't sitting water constantly.

I have seen them around from time to time but not often.

Plus I'm not sure how conscientious the operators of them are. I saw one around a drain I knew was clogged and though "oh good, they're sorting it" but when I went past later on it was still clogged. So either they weren't clearing, in which case why were they hanging around that drain, or they just really didn't care about the job they were doing.

They get cleaned occasionally. I noticed walking to the ground at the start of least season they were so bad there were weeds growing out of them but at some point they did get done

Suspect like everything the budget has been cut so they're done less often

Yeah most of the ones around Longford are completely blocked, then a bit of rain and it's flooded.

Pretty quick at responding as well. Reported a pothole outside my house and they were there sorting it within 3 days. Did the rest in the street as well.

The only place I ever see them getting regularly cleared, is on bends on the likes of dual carriageways or on dual carriageways, where flooding could cause a high speed crash.

Collectively as a street, we clear ours, we also keep the gutters clear too.

It`s just easier than involving the council, who if they do come out, don`t seem to willing or able to clear every drain, skipping some on the way down - we`re on a hill.

Back in the early 1970's, I worked nights for the City Engineers Dept. Me and another guy used to drive the "gully lorries" on the main roads in Cov. We'd do Foleshill Rd, Holyhead Rd, London Rd, Biney Rd, Kenilworth Rd etc. It would take about 3 months to complete and then we'd start the routes all over again. Stopping at every gully pot or drains as you all call them these days, each one would be sucked empty and washed out, taking about 7 or 8 minutes per pulley pot. Hard work but a worthwhile job. I haven't seen a gully machine lorry anywhere for years. Same everywhere. Blocked drains, even here in Malvern.

I bet they outsource the job these days and get bad vfm. In today's world Councils are more like money laundering operations. It feels like it's a situation that can't be fixed.
