I would have played hardball with them and said if we're bailing you out, we're getting control and ownership and you're giving us those shares for nothing. If you don't those shares will be worth nothing anyway. And will be increasing regulation and tightening tax rules. If you don't like the terms feel free to negotiate with other financial institutions and look for a better deal and if you find one then you don't need taxpayer money. If you don't find a better deal why should the country use taxpayer money/increase debt to help an industry filled with rich individuals that is responsible for all its own problems.You say this with zero irony and it’s quite funny.
