Gone quiet since more details have come out, CCTV images etc.

I get what @rob9872 is saying, we need to sort our own shit out but people are far more obsessed with Israel, Trump etc. I don't know if it's now there's the internet and it's just what is rammed down people's throats all day every day.

I am selfish that I am more worried about my daughter when she gets hassled at the bus stop than what's happening in Israel or US.

When it comes to the politics, they are all cunts really. People like Jess Philiips who even claim to be all for women and women's rights but turns out she does fuck all she promises, but sounds good. (Well, she is brummie so not sure about sounding good).

Some people are petrified of saying anything or having anything said about some of the real issues closer to home. Maybe that's why it's easier to just say "trump".

You’ve posted on the thread once in the last four months - does that mean you think it’s ‘meh’ as well?

I think you’re mistaking people having discussions about things you’re not interested in for people not caring about a certain issue.

Not really sure that's the gotcha you think. I actually bumped it.

I'm not mistaking anything, I can only assume people who are obsessed with trump and Israel live in nicer areas with no issues near them so don't see things or no risk of it bothering them.

I'll happily say that what is going on that impacts me personally takes priority.

Suppose strictly it’s starmers judgement on employing someone that’s being debated rather than the files themselves

I’m confused as to how the government haven’t got a process whereby the stuff mandleson shared seemingly criminally is hidden in files and only sees the light of day when they’re released
Surely we check what information is shared - I have union cases where people are dismissed for viewing information without a business reason

1. It’s clear to me that the Mandelson appointment was pushed through by McSweeney and there’s chatter that maybe he will be the fall guy for all this. Personally I don’t think so as he’s effectively Starmer’s political weathervane (albeit a crap one) and I don’t think Starmer has the bollocks to let him go. Both will be gone following the May elections.
2. I have a mild fear that the part where government are trying to play the ‘national security’ card regards what is/isn’t disclosed relating to the Mandelson appointment is because there’s something documented somewhere that Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein puts him in a position to better leverage Trump. I hope not as things will get rather explosive.

Pretty wild assumption imo!

I don’t think the amount that people post about stuff on this particular forum indicates much at all about how seriously they take certain issues, much less about how nice their neighbourhood is.

PR is terrible imo. Imagine being governed by coalitions that no one actually voted for?

The current UK context, you’d probably have a big Labour-Green-LD block v Tory/Reform or if we went the same way as Germany, a Labour/Tory grand coalition because their more right or left wing partners are too unpalatable.

Personally, I think it’s good that the last 2 governments have been stonking majorities. It’s unfortunate that they’ve just wasted it because they’ve lacked direction one way or another.

Agreed PR is the worst possible outcome. You end up with nothing getting done as no one has the final say. Every policy gets watered down so much it becomes meaningless and eventually the whole system collapses.

The problem isnt FPTP the problem is we have parties that lie to get votes then do the opposite once in power.

And neither party so far, has had the balls to make the tough decisions.

This doesn't happen currently? The UK's biggest problem is demonstrated by the Mandelson affair, its politicians are absolutely obsessed with getting in with very wealthy people which is a huge conflict of interest.

what the f*ck are you on about? there was a years long enquiry, there's another one being put together because of how much it was yelled about by people who had no clue about it (Musk and co.) and it's been the rallying call for Tommy and co. for years. It's been arguably the most talked about subject in this part of the forum for as long as I can remember and gets brought up when *checks notes* Peter Mandelson is being discussed in a politics thread. jfc. People who wanted something to be done about it were shouted down because of demands from culture war pricks screaming for a repeat enquiry.

Tbf to Nick, I don't think it's about naming who doesn't participate and certainly no shame on them for not wanting to be labelled. I think the key is that as soon as a particular ethnicity/religion of the majority (not all) of the gangs, particularly in a geographical area of the north of England, the same 'lazy' argument is just to shout 'racist'. That doesn't achieve anything, certainly not fixing the problem or helping the victims. 100% accept that TR etc all jump on that bandwagon to hide behind whilst being racist and that certainly doesn't help either.

His other point on the whataboutery of 'yeah, but British nonces' also carries no weight imo We know we have cunts of our own, nobody is saying don't deal with them too, but the particular problem with a certain demographic seems to almost endemic and should be addressed. I genuinely believe that authorities are too scared to act properly as they should for fear of reprisals and that's not a great place to be.

Anybody who tries to deflect with "what about the British nonces".

Not too hard to find.

Also anybody who shouts racist at the first sniff of the chance the guilty aren't "British".

It's usually middle aged white blokes.

On the other hand there's cunts like Tommy Robinson who get a following because theres no real in between. If you have concerns you're far right racists and there's nobody really in the middle ground politically.

(Of course I know there are far right racists, also cunts)

As a genuine question, whom are authorities afraid of reprisals from? The ‘woke left’ have never been anywhere near office and form an insignificant proportion of the electorate.

There isn’t a single person on here who doesn’t want sex offenders of all demographics locked up. The Epstein stuff is relevant here though in proving that justice is harder to obtain for more vulnerable and less well off people. We’ve seen that so many times in this country alone.

Who were west Midlands police afraid of? Let's face it, when there were riots in Birmingham the police were preferred, you also have police shitting themselves and just told people to take their weapons back to the mosque.

It's pretty much the same as people like Jimmy saville who did stuff because he knew he could get away with it.

Afraid of reprisals from the wider community and prefer to say we're working with them. If that were true it would be the right thing to do, but the communities know fek all will happen and many of them take the piss. Any opportunity, just shout racist and failing that, protest/riot until there is a climbdown. Until the Imam's start actually calling out their own and helping the police not just soundbite statements, then nothing will change. The mosques are pretty much harbouring known offenders.
