How many times shmmeee, you can try to make this a racist argument if you want but as half my old team and quite a few mates/contacts in my phone are ‘brown’ I find that offensive

I’m talking about uncontrolled immigration, when infrastructure and house building can’t keep up especially when there’s no planning for it. I’ve explained this numerous times

ps you might not have noticed but over the last 15-20 years a lot of the immigration was white.

I’ll get the graphs again.

There’s no correlation.

Save your “I’ve got black friends” for when you don’t blame everything on immigrants without evidence. And call it “uncontrolled” when we’ve literally destroyed the economy trying to control it.

UK population has boomed without house price rises. House price rises occurred without equivalent population increases. Recent immigrants also tend to live in larger households so require less housing per person than natives if you want to play that game.

Last post and then I’m done with thread, if people consider my posts as racist then I’m best off not posting as that’s the last thing I’d want

The property market is complicated, people probably aren’t able to moving at the moment because of interest rates/high prices/high deposit requirements/availability. There might well be a housing price crash if there’s a recession, that doesn’t mean there’s plenty of houses but because people are out of work and can’t keep up with mortgages. Also house prices aren’t as relevant as affordability, kids/young families can’t get on the housing ladder !

Why have the government has to loosen mortgage criteria if houses haven’t become less affordable ? Did you not read my comment on private rents market ? (most migrants don’t have the luxury of being able to buy a property as soon as they arrive so they’ve been going into the rental market.

Tell me how you can physically build the housing and infrastructure for net 400-500k+ per annum (same size of Coventry) with no appropriate planning when we can’t build a fucking train track in 20 years, have an aging demographic (so houses aren’t becoming available) and we have only managed to build 200k-300k new housing stock for as long as I can remember

I could go on but it’s a waste of time on this thread.

Wow indeed. A bizarre post, you do realise that not all brown people have names like that ? I’ve got mates like Josh, Curtis, Raj and Nat (Nathaniel). A load of work colleagues were Indian with one Chinese lady. My point was that I find being called racist offensive. You might find that funny, I don’t

As far as I can see you didn't mention brown or black before he labelled you racist. Don't stop posting, that's his intention. He's the only person being divisive here. Always middle class white folk who scream racist to try and close you down and think they've claimed yhe moral highground. As far as I can see you mentioned immigration only and 20 years, where the largest demographic is absolutely white and mostly European. Put him on ignore if it helps, but don't shut yourself down.

I already limit my posting on this thread as I lose my day when I should be working!

Agree that it’s very complicated in practice. Theoretically, yes, just build a few million more houses and we’re all good (notwithstanding all of the negative equity that a fall in value would create). But as you say, planning is a barrier, affordability is a barrier (which should absolutely remain in place imo). The affordability issue then splits in two: if you leave criteria as-is then the housing market grinds to a halt and the economy likely suffers, but loosening affordability criteria likely leads to further value increases and therefore perpetuates the issue.

Clearly the Labour government have identified planning reform as their turnkey solution; I don’t formally know what progress they’re making on this but we’ll likely get to the end of their term without any meaningful change.

Forgot to mention this added bonus. On more than one occasion when I’ve actually managed to get an appointment to see my GP when I’ve gone to the appointment there's come a point where the person I'm seeing has said 'I can't deal with that, you'll need to see a doctor'.

The last government had a plan to make more appointments available by bringing in a level between practice nurses and GPs. ANPs who could prescribe and treat routine things. Not a bad idea, right?

Except the implementation has been appalling. To encourage uptake the cost of employing an ANP is subsidised by the government. So what actually happened was practices replaced some of their GPs with ANPs. Same number of appointments so NHS management doesn't complain but they've saved money and therefore make more profit.

We've got the crazy situation where it's a nightmare trying to get a GP appointment yet we have a load of unemployed GPs, who increasingly are moving overseas, and newly qualified GPs struggling to find a job.

Don't be so sensitive. Make your points and stand by them. You made 5 or 6 points about housing issue - only one of which was about population/immigration. All the points contribute to the housing problems one got latched onto.

Bollocks. First tenure was shared (and presumably by your standards was related to clearing up after Labour?), then followed Brexit and then a worldwide pandemic and half the country on fekkin Furlough. I know we all have our colours, but let's be realistic and deal what's in front of us instead of looking backwards all the time and blaming everyone else. What we need is clear direction and to see improvement, a plan and what is going to change, not what has happened.

It’s not bollocks at all
Social media has blown up all norms
We are utterly fucked and people want things done yesterday and don’t give time
No way was the media this hard on the first joint administration and then the first Tory one.
my side is Labour but I’m man enough to admit that the Labour government should have had a vision for this term of government the full fact site has some information around pledges and progress being made which bears no relation to the media landscape which is purely based around immigration for some reason!

The reality is that most people are feeling ever worse off, and they are pointed to things like immigration as being the cause of it. Labour can hardly complain when you have got Starmer leaning into it with the "island of strangers" quotes etc.

Then you hear this week that the next neat trick is to reduce lending constraints giving private banks further license to hoover up value at the expense of ordinary people.

Starmer created narrative around immigration

Tonight they will be bigging themselves up as the FTSE has broken the 9000 barrier and they want to encourage people to invest in stocks and shares

The thing is Pete, Labour had 14 years in opposition to come up with some kind of fucking clue!

To come into office and then be even worse than the clowns they replaced is inexcusable, that's why the press are so hard on them, especially when the manifesto they put forward has proven to be a complete pack of lies.

Of course demand (and immigration leading to population increase is a part of that) is going to be a big cause of unaffordability.

But another big part of that demand is people buying up properties to rent. They inflate prices because they're buying for a business decision, increase demand as they own multiple properties and all of this gets paid for by the tenant making it even harder for them to gather enough money to get a deposit.

Building more houses is definitely a big thing that needs to happen to alleviate the crisis, having better control of immigration is another but also a big player in that list is reducing the number of houses owned for private rent as an income/retirement plan.

I’m not sure that’s balanced at all
They haven’t been worse evidentially on immigration have they?
Heard an interesting thing on one of the podcasts - Rory Stewart I think it was said that Labour genuinely felt that tories were evil and all that was needed was for good people to take over and he thought that was such nonsense

what we need is competent people with integrity who have experience and expertise but we won’t ever get it and many people don’t even want it

we want everything without sacrifice for ourselves often
