I want one that offers free movement to countries with similar values and of a similar developmental level to us. The EU mostly gave us that, since Brexit we’ve had to rely on importing people from vastly different cultures willing to accept vastly lower living standards.
At this rate we’re going to be begging to be part of a much tougher EU immigration regime so we’ve got the tools to address our own issues.
Was just an endlessly stupid policy even on its own terms and those who made it their shining policy example should probably be quiet on policy in the future.
Sorry,
Immigration should be colour blind and nation blind. Immigration should be about who you are, not where you are from, human being by human being on their individual merits.
It’s shallow thinking to say “blah blah lah lah, prefer Europeans over Africans - different cultures - better blah blah”
Deeper thinking even on that level - are all South Africans the same, culturally? (Topical) are French Algerians Europeans or not? What about the pied-noir? (People of European decent and mainly Christians who were born in Algeria at a time when Algeria (in Africa) was part of the EU. What about Syrian Christians?
To have any immigration system based on where people are born is against the principles of equality of human life.
It’s also steeped in problems administratively.
The solution will always be:
Who you are, not where you were born.
