Mate, Moore had 4 bad games and hasn't played since, one poor spell of form has effectively ended his career, he won't get a new contract here, and will probably fall down the leagues next year, or even end up at a non league club.

Football is fucking ruthless.

The issue we have with Simms and Wright is that not only did we spend half the Gyokeres money on them, we also gave them 4 year contracts, which is starting to look like a bloody disaster.

They need to show some form very soon, the fans will only have so much patience, and Doug King will want to see a return on his investment.
I only hope they can get on the score sheet and find some form ASAP.

You'd think they'd at least say what we should be looking to pay and advise not to proceed if it's too high.

Really not sure why Simms is getting it. He’s cost nothing like that Wright did, is younger, and has barely played. Kitching and Wright have to prove their worth, the rest are normal Championship signings.

Before we signed Wright we were looking at Simms as an expensive signing and were surprised we'd paid that much for a player. Just because we've since spent almost silly money on other players doesn't mean Simms shouldn't have decent expectations placed on him. He was brought in as a major part of the first team, not some development squad punt.

If he was £8m sure. But he wasn’t really. But he’s on a level with van Ewijk and not far off Sakamoto and Thomas for me. Prices were inflated anyway, and for us in particular and £2-3m is what £1-2m was a couple of years back.

And we expected things from Hamer and Gyokeres when we signed them for that kind of money.

Just because we went mad spending this year after a windfall doesn't mean we shouldn't have expectations for that cash. We're not suddenly some cash-rich club that can afford the odd expensive flop.

If we hadn't signed Wright, would your expectations of Simms be the same? When he came him we expected him to be the big forward signing and to make a big impression in the first team and get goals. I don't see why that should have changed.

If we hadn’t signed wright I may have actually seen Simms play. Fact is I think he was signed to replace Godden and Godden has (rightfully as he’s top scorer) played every minute of every game. Until I’ve seen Simms get a run in the role he was brought for I’m happy to withhold judgement. Yes there’s more expectation on him than say Sakamoto, but I’m not expecting what I am from Wright and Kitching which is to be a class above from the start.

He was on approx 3000 a week at Barnsley so I imagine he's probably tripled that (at least) signing for us....so fairly life changing to be fair.

We knew for a while we were after Kitching we made multiple bids. It was obvious we’d be back on deadline day. It was a

for 5m we could have picked up anyone - O’Brien was available on loan.

it’s a logical assumption that we didn’t have a plan for Hamer leaving, unlike we did for Gyokeres

Kitching was signed because Robins wanted him & Barnsley and who can blame them stuck it out for the best price as we did with Hamer, I don’t think signing Kitching had Jack shit to do with not signing a midfielder or anyone else.

He wanted him yes - but we didn’t urgently need him. We needed a CM and possibly a right back.

that isn’t hindsight that’s obvious - at the time we should have moved on from Kitching as a must sign to a position we needed

I think we tried to sign Obrien but he decided to go to boro for whatever reason. I’ve said before, if anyone thinks we wouldn’t have tried hard to sign a CM they are mad. Unfortunately when Hamer left a couple of weeks before deadline many players have already moved, clubs don’t want to let players go without a replacement lined up and various clubs are going after what’s left.

The choice was probably overpay for a player we didn’t really want or accept what we’ve already got until Jan or the summer. If sheaf hadn’t got injured the latter was probably the right move. Now its looking iffy

ps I doubt Ayari was signed to sit on the bench for the season. Brighton will want him playing but he’s a young lad and getting up to speed

It’s more the lack of planning - woth Gyokeres they had Wright and Simms in mind, even signed Simms before letting Gyokeres go.

it’s madness they didn’t have options prior to selling Hamer

Or timings and events just went against us. We couldnt get a quality replacement in for hamer before we knew if he was definitely going or what someone was willing to pay. It was different to gyokeres where we knew what was being offered and just haggling over a couple of million. Deals could be lined up while sale was being concluded. Sounded like Hamer offers were derisory before Sheff Utd came in. Timing fucked us but we couldn’t say no because he was out of contract in less than a year

Anyway it’s all going over old ground. It’s done, he’s gone and we’ve got what we’ve got…which I think is still a lot better than was shown on Tuesday (pretty pathetic)

Do our journalists ever ask tough questions? If we're spending 20 million in a summer window I don't see why questions about the matter cant be asked. There are at least 20 000 stakeholders of the club who I think deserve to know a bit about how significant investments decisions are made?

It is ruthless. But after being dropped Moore has been training with us so hasn't been totally frozen out.

Simms played a big part in Godden's second goal, more so than Da Silva who will be credited with the assist. Wright has scored hit the bar made the keeper make saves

It really is early days. Half our outfield players are new, Wilson and Mcfadz are the only two out of last season's 6 defenders.

We are not playing well and there is a lot to work on, but this was to be expected with the turnover of players. This is a long term project and fans need to be patient, we are in a rebuilding year and the rebuild isn't complete. I suspect we will still be doing it next summer and I'm not suggesting any of the new signings are flops yet.

I still cannot comprehend why there appears to have been no planned well in advance Hamer replacement. Simple logic dictates that there should have been a shortlist with a number of targets. We appear to be following the Pulis model of signing as many central defenders as possible. Our midfield is pretty non existent currently. Robins needs to recognise that tactics must change to play to the strengths of the players he has fit and available. Square pegs in round holes rarely work

I am still convinced Simms will come good, hasn’t really had much of a chance tbh. Similar to Godden, Simms wants the ball given to him in the box and that hasn’t been happening at all, Godden feeding off scraps and loose balls.

O’Hare coming back will be a massive turning point in our season. Fingers crossed he comes back ok.

Wright however, I just don’t see it. A loan move back to Turkey beckons. Hope he proves me wrong.
Agree with this, think Simms looks like he could be a player and needs to start and get some minutes. Not sure about Wright, haven’t seen the potential that I thought Gyokeres had, but by no means writing him off yet, But if Simms were to come good, not sure how he’d get minutes…

Kind of irrelevant if targets had already moved by then and/or clubs unwilling to sell new targets. My point is we don’t know how many bids we had in for players, which were accepted/rejected, what players turned us down, which deals were dependent on selling clubs finding a replacement etc etc. People are talking like we didn’t even bother, I’m saying I’d be stunned if that was the case

Saw something from the West Brom end that they turned down 3m for Swift. (Presumably from us....) They weren't letting him go....CC vetoed a few outgoings - Palmer to Luton being one after a deal was in the pipeline.....they are banking on a change of ownership and something may be in the pipeline ...(although now the same report stated they are struggling financially and will certainly have to sell and offload in Jan if it doesn't happen!)

I hear what your saying,
more has been training with us as he's under contract until the end of this season, but it looks like he's not in MR's plans going forward. He won't get another contract here.

and tbf, Simms offered more as a sub when he came on than Wright had done, but neither has impressed. Yes its early days, but the fact that neither has shown any kind of form is a major issue. It's not the lack of goals that's the problem it's the total lack of impact.

Rebuilding the entire squad was always going to be a challenge, but in reality it's only 2 players that we've missed, and having spent millions we should be seeing real progress by now.
