Well, I am happy to be proved wrong. I thought we might capitulate.

Still could, but it's an impressive start so far.
Spoke too soon!
Pope gets lucky with a wild slash that just clears the slips, then is caught and bowled the very next ball off another wild slash.

Schoolboy batting.

Brook scoring at a run a ball and looking risky, while Root looking to play himself in and is scoring at 3 runs an over.

Its almost like Root knows what to do! 🤔

Brook out caught behind.
He survived a review on the previous ball, but he obviously fancies a couple of days off.

Tbh it was coming from the moment he came out.

All hopes on Stokes now.

Smith walks out on a pair 😫😫😫

Not surprised by any of this. Archer/Root partnership was a false dawn followed up by a poor bowling/fielding performance. And again some brain dead batting. Issue is also there's no-one to bring in to replace the weak elements and they're not going to change the captain mid-series.

Probably already got their tee times booked. At least Stokes can give another interview about how shit and cold and depressing it is in England this time of year so they're going to go out and have fun after the loss.

I don’t think anyone begrudges them some downtime but the prep for the last few Ashes series over there have been embarrassing.

Its not the captain that needs changing. Its the head coach and the mindset! But you've just as much chance of that changing mid-series as you have the captain changing.

When 4 or 5 of your top order fail, EVERY time, just to get in, not even score big, just get in, you've zero chance of winning a test match! I dont expect both openers to score a century every time they come.out, but as a minimum you'd like them to, at a very minimum, last 15 or so overs to soften the ball a bit. Regardless of scoring runs, give your middle order a fighting fucking chance so the batter coming in at 5 isnt facing a hard, shiny ball ffs!

We're being completely blown away by an average Aussie team.
This is it. It's one thing to go out there with an average England side against a rampant Aussie side and at least put up a fight but this isn't acceptable.

We went into this with our best chance of winning in Australia in years. We've build everything up to this, even forced Jimmy to 'retire' as he wouldn't still be playing by the time the Ashes came around (he's just signed a contract with Lancs for next season). We've beaten ourselves, they've just had to turn up and we've rolled over.

Was only a couple of weeks ago people were taking the piss about an aging Aussie team not being up to the job and not being able to last the course.

We have to keep the faith, although I accept that to win this - and keep a chance of winning the series - we probably need Stokes to get 300+ and the tail to wag.

happy moulin rouge GIF

We looked woefully underprepared

Nobody expects them to be practicing 24/7 but it's the optics of the thing. The way Stokes responds to questions and the way they think they're above criticism.

He was interviewed by Athers before the first test for Sky and spoke to him like he was a nobody who didn't have a clue what he was on about. Really arrogant and rude answers.

Surely when all the talk is about lack of preparation and too much time on the golf course there's a PR person somewhere in the England setup saying just sound like you give a shit and maybe lay off the golf for a few days.

It's a collection of softy poms against a team of street fighter Aussies.

We look so weak individually.
