Eight years ago today.

In the shadow of the FA Cup Semi-Final and Championship Playoff Final, I often feel like this particular day is missed.

An incredible day that I will never forget; in control of the match from the start, potentially buoyed by Exeter's matchday announcer inexplicably deciding to be a dickhead and yelling "WE OWN OUR FOOTBALL CLUB" prematch, great weather, 40,000 CCFC fans roaring the team on during a terrible period in the club's modern history.

Jordan Shipley's goal, and the resultant limbs, one of my favourite ever CCFC moments. For me, that day was the start of the incredible journey we've been on since. Remarkable that Liam Kelly played this match then was there for two further Wembley appearances years later.

That game and the Notts county away game would be on my list of all time favorite games. Winning the play off final felt like the first feel progress - winning the JPT was great but cups are always a bit of a lottery. That win was us starting to get serious. Loved Doyle and Kelly and that song. Still sing in the kitchen sometimes!

Was down at the Shambles Inn, Lutterworth, at the back where the big screen was (prior to the fire). Myself and my dear old pop were in seventh heaven! Good beer, good company and a great game of football. He would've absolutely loved this season.
In the Shambles the other day… that’s changed quite a bit

More like a Sports bar nowadays. Never go in any more when visiting. George and Denise made it work but it lost its soul after the fire.

The least stressed I’ve ever felt for a big game in my life

With all due respect for Exeter, I remember taking my seat and just knowing that we’d win that day

Yea its weird isnt it. I knew we would steamroller them as soon as we beat Notts County. Whereas the Luton final i just knew their name was in the stars and we would miss out.

Willis’ goal was an absolute peach. He never hit the ball that cleanly before or since
We were sat with a line to goal exactly from where Willis hit it - was going in as soon as he left his boot - if it wasn’t Willis it would have been a worldy

In fairness it took a deflection but still looked good.

All three goals were very pleasing on the eye.
It was a very good display that day by team.
Actually for a significant match, it was comfortable and never in doubt. Thats generally quite rare for Coventry City.

Exeter were thrown into a bit of chaos that week as Tisdale announced he was leaving to take the MK Dons job regardless of the result

Walked into the ground saw the size of our following compared to theirs and it kind of just put me at ease

my lasting memory of the day is throwing up at half time.
oh, and us winning, of course.

Was that the one with the thatched roof? Went drinking there once on a Friday night early 00s and it was ‘interesting’ outside later on.

Aye, that's the one. Got much better over the ensuing years, won pub of the year a few times. Since renovation/repair after the fire though the old landlord and landlady passed on the baton, so to speak, and it lost its personality, and most of the regulars with it.

That was the day we turned a corner as a football club really.

Defenders scoring 30 yard worldies and a goal from an academy grad too, fairytale stuff. Felt like the first time in a long time something had properly gone our way.

Only worry on way to Wembley was Jaydon Stockley. Then seeing 40000 SBA I thought no way are we losing today.

First promotion in 51 years.
This really was the beginning of the end of that awful miserable period
