I’ve conveniently timed a trip to see the family with the first game of the season. Me and my mate heading up on Saturday.

Can see a tight game, 1-0 to City

Interesting comment from the Southend guy on the telegraph piece about the situation looking ridiculous from the outside in.

Also they’ve sold 500 tickets so they could bring about 800

We go out and smash them 8-0, promotion is basically in the bag.

Or we draw 0-0 and our fans moan we need a striker and Chaplin would have scored many times.

Think that was a few days ago. They had sold 720 by yesterday morning, so are expecting to bring about 1000.

2-0 few scares but crowd positive and not on their back.

I don't get this thinking. One thing that surprised me last season was how patient we were at home and how we rarely turned on the team, despite it being very frustrating at times.

Sunderland by contrast lost once at home all season and their fans turned on them many times.

Doesn’t that tell you something about expectations

3-1 - Willis to score a Wembley style 20 yard curler, Bayliss to score a 30 yard dipping volley, Chaplin to score an overhead kick and Lee burge to drop an overhead catch and the ball hits his head and goes in. Oh wait... is this the 2019/20 season ?

Hyam fit apparently

i'd give him an extra week's rest - it's the one area where we have decent cover. Hope Allen is fit to play, although again I don't want to rush him or Kelly back -we really need them to play regularly this season.

Me too probably. He'll be desperate to play though as if Rose and McFadz do well he may struggle to get back in.

Ex Blues and Villa centre back Liam Ridgewell has just signed for Southend, not sure if he will feature tomorrow though.

Bet he'll feel right at home

I'll give you a like for that, but let's also have a bit of optimism from you as well. 'Smile and the whole world smiles with you'

Allen is out for a week to ten days, Kastaneer for two weeks.

Looks like Kelly, Shipley and Westbrooke in midfield tomorrow.
