Really ?. Surely we should be able to give Southend a proper game at a neutral venue ?. I’m going cov win

When we beat Southend at the end of December Kelly, Shipley and Westbrooke all started in midfield.

Plenty of energy in there in a 3 energy is the key

Doesn't excuse the fact that we were very much hoping to go into this game with a much stronger midfield trio than this one.

Apart from it does exactly that doesn’t it because you said we’d be happy with a draw?

Everywhere I read, people are predicting Southend either in the relegation zone or thereabouts. How can we possibly be happy with a draw?

I'd be happy with a draw because on paper that supposed side looks weak to me.

First game of the season. Not at 'home'. New players quite often need time to gel and I think we may well miss Allen badly and I also don't have too much faith in Baka up front either.

Must say excitement has been tempered by the sales of Chaplin/Bayliss, but hoping they'll be Thomas/Stevenson sales rather than Wilson/Maddison...
But, will be there with me boy. Not ST or match package as yet either, so at least 5001 there :emoji_grimacing:

Looks quite a young team

Assume you know McCallum, Drysdale, Maycock, Bremang, Allassani and Walters as usual U23
Bartlett is U23 signed this summer, Bilson was U18 last year so I assume was given some sort of deal.
Tyler, Rowe, N'Gandu and Martin are U18 (though N'Gandu has been playing up a level and has a pro deal already)
Nightingale and G Burroughs U17
Ward and Young? Might be schoolboys - saw those surnames on the bench for the academy last year but had different first names so not sure. If they were trialists I don't think they'd be named or see the point in them being on the bench.

Maybe, maybe not. You don’t know what it’s like compared to the Southend side though, right?

If we’re going to send out what is perceived to be a weak side, I’d prefer it to be first game of the season. They’re always unpredictable.

I think Southend might miss their top scorer from last season, Cox, who’s injured, and another important player who’s name escapes me who’s also injured.

It’s the people that fill stadiums owned by football clubs in the city/town the club represents.

True. Just these past few years we have struggled against this very sort of side that is predicted to be nearer the bottom than top.

Yeah I know but it doesn’t mean we should be happy with a draw. We drew a lot of games that we should’ve won last season, doesn’t mean I started being happy about those results.

I don't mean deliriously happy, dancing round the kitchen in your pants, happy, I just mean haappyish.

I hope we lose, so I can feel really good about being constantly negative.

Ridiculous match thread so far.

Bounced out of bed this morning. Kids up in their clobber already. Phone pinging with messages from people who declared they weren't going now asking what time I'm getting to the pub.

It's a shit situation, but I'm tired of the politics. All we can do is rally behind the team. Like MR says, it's in adversity when you really see what a football club is made of. Let's do this. PUSB.
