I understand hating him not sure he was a c**t though. Think he did promise stuff and then change his mind in discussions with ccfc and certainly him and Joy couldn’t stand one another for some reason

Some of the comments in the programme about things being different if Joy had got involved earlier were interesting.
Would have liked to hear them expanded on as I'm not sure what difference people thought it would make.

One things for sure there's no situation in life that can't be made worse by introducing Tim Fisher into the equation.

I've heard this from others too so I can honestly believe that he might possibly be the most affable person to seemingly refuse Coventry City FC permission to play football in Coventry.

Didn't some parties say he was also the one who vetoed the deal to save Wasps Rugby leading to the end of their club?

Perversely I think it could be viewed that we owe him a debt of gratitude as without his involvement the extended lease might not have been created and made available to ultimately be owned along with the football club.

Guess we'll never know but I wonder whether the cycle of short term rental deals between ACL (Council / Higgs Trust) and the football club along with the ongoing decline on the pitch have otherwise continued to this day.

Some of his henchmen were wankers though. Nick Eastwood especially. When was trying to get them to talk I got agreement that if I could get Joy to talk to Derek he would get Derek to talk to Joy. I fulfilled my side and he then said that’s not how it works. Stupid idiot

God, this thread has bought back some horrible memories. Who can forget balloongate. Sisu were utter cunts, but the council had a hand in nearly destroying a club that beared the city's name for well over a hundred years. Unforgivable really.

Cain was useless and has been equally useless at Warwickshire. Not surprising that they've taken a drastic downward turn since he took over, not to mention an obsession with selling off things to external investors and concentrating on property development over the cricket team.

Amazing how these people fail upwards. Not surprising that English domestic cricket is in a mess when the likes of Cain and Gidney are in charge at two of the biggest sides / grounds.

They certainly did and when we met with George duggins and Martin reeves they absolutely defended their position
Was utterly bizarre
We were saying having a successful ccfc team would be worth millions. I’m sure Joy was as much at fault but Joy and Martin didn’t meet for a decade - madness
They should have been right at the forefront of a solution and they just didn’t care it was bizarre
Mark on here was on that particular call so will remember it I’m sure

After all the “pay your rent” shit we got and James Haskell being a general c**t - it really was

Even when they went they were spouting we’d never own it…

I hope the parasites never return - the fans were gobshites and all deserve their club to die

Still see the odd Wasps shirts being worn, always makes me smile.
But it’s probably just a grin of satisfaction.

One of the councillors told me that every time someone from the council met Joy they suddenly become massively sympathetic to her cause.
He said she invited him to meet her, but he politely declined as he was happily married

I will always remember sisu more fondly than the council and wasps. Don't give a fuck

It all had to happen the way it did. Everything has worked out like a fairytale. Sisu were a necessary evil almost. They fought the bigger evil of council for us. Good guys wouldnt have got the job done.

They broke up an unsustainable rent deal, which in a roundabout way has helped to get us in the situation we're in now. However that took us to Northampton, Brum, Burton etc. Fuck them all tbh.

Was enjoying it until tim fisher and Anne ( gargles with gravel ) Lucas, came on, it was an absolute shit show and to get where we are now in 3 years is unbelivable, finally got an owner who puts the club first, just need the final piece and it’s some story.

I can't think of it that way

The Council were looking out for the Council
Wasps were looking out for Wasps
Sisu were looking out for Sisu
Coventry City was looking out for Sisu

Every party was looking out for itself, except our club under Sisu management.

I can't forgive Sisu for using our club as a pawn in its battles

Me too
Although I don't think we celebrated enough or publicly enough!
Possibly due to there still being so many people that were very poorly informed as to their role/relationship with the council.

As well as looking out for themselves (obviously)
It got to a point where the council were absolutely willing to push the football club to cease to exist to spite SISU. Fact.

This in itself paints them as the biggest villains in whatever happened over the years.

The problem was that the fans were served up a shit sandwich by the local media, who sacrificed editorial independence for political reasons, partly being lent on and partly because they were well trained puppies. I can't and never will forgive SISU for splitting the fan base. For an owner to do that is far worse than any of the other numpty involved.

We have to allow ourselves to be split
There was really no split about moving to Northampton everyone knew it was wrong
There was more of a split when going to Birmingham because it wasn’t as clear that ccfc had any choice

Just bizarre though that it came to that

Key things
1 Doug admits Robins and Boddy saved the club and he would not have bought in if we weren’t at that level
2 He said we would give it a go in the premier league but he would need help ( investment ) as he couldn’t do it alone
3 said he is warming the council up on infrastructure due to the massive benefits it would bring to the city

I think there is some land around the Arena.
Has anyone still got a map showing the site.

I think the Butts Stadium also has a 250 year lease so maybe it is a standard practise at least for CCC.

Slightly more nuanced than that given it was the ‘existing’ lease that was sold to them (under ACL) and they then paid something daft like £1m to extend it from c.40 years to c.250 years which (hypothetically) would have added £20m or so to the value. Now, lease extension costs are generally formulaic but what never made sense was…why didn’t the council extend the lease when ACL was under their ownership to maximise the sale value?
