Hopefully Onyeka can get up to speed this week, as the last thing we need is a combative central midfielder getting frustrated at being slightly off the pace and getting himself injured/sent off, if Boro play anything like they did against Sheff Utd. I'd sooner start him when he's 100%. Fingers crossed he'll be good to go.

It could just take 1 game to turn this form around, won’t be monday, but a good win at west brom with a fully fit squad and
we could easily go on a run again, we can’t keep being this bad
My thoughts exactly (although wish Sheff Utd away wasn't straight after West Brom)

This is another reason FTT has to start to intercept these breaking the lines passes from the likes of Malanda. It puts them onto the attack very quickly from a CB position.

Imagine bringing in a CB who can defend and pass in January instead of 18 wingers.

Why are Thomas and Kitching returning in people’s teams?
Because in terms of a defensive fuck up risk they are all as bad as eachother but at least Thomas offers a threat in opposition box and Kitching can occasionally break the lines and pick a pass.

So that probably.

I can see this going better than we think. Middlebrough have been brilliant recently but these runs don't go on forever, as we have seen. We have a good team but for some reason it just hasn't clicked recently. Had one of those chances gone in on Saturday we would have gone on to thrash Oxford, they were rubbish. I think we miss the on-form version of BTA and Torp and Rudoni can't seem to get himself together and Wright just misses everything at the moment. It will click back at some point, at least to some extent. I am saying a 2-2 draw in this one...

They're the kind of passes that Thomas and Kitching were making at the start of the season.

Both seem to have completely lost that ability now.

Confidence has gone. They have attempted them, but on the whole haven't completed them so now revert to sideways or to Grimes.

We need..

A better tempo

More passion and belief

And our shooting boots on

This slow, laboured build up that we've developed recently invites and causes the low block that we struggle to break down.
Our style of play has become self-defeating.

Earlier in the season we were winning the ball high up the pitch and flooding the box. Admittedly that's a higher risk strategy because it leaves us vulnerable to the counter but it's the way we play best and brings the likes of Torp and Rudoni into the game as genuine goal threats.

With Onyeka providing more midfield defensive cover, we surely must revert to that original style and start blowing teams away again.

To be fair, I would bloody love it to be us and Boro in the Top 2 in an ideal world - But until, if at all we get over the line ourselves I do not care and hope they drop as many point as possible

They are a mostly decent, grounded bunch

I’d wondered if it was why Woolfenden hadn’t been playing as much as he could have. At this point I’d get anyone who doesn’t want to be here training down the Memorial Park like the good old days.

Get them to run the lines

I wondered that but then heard Lati speaking about Woolfenden the other day, about his application, how he’s fitted in etc since he’s been here.

I might be wrong but I think we’re looking to deeply into stuff. Thomas and Kitching have both been off form, Lat and Woolf probably train as a pair/partnership in training so made sense to give them both a go. Lampards aversion to KKH on left is probably down to the fact that EMC cuts in so he doesn’t want RB on that side. MvE has been hit and miss but when the rest of the defence is wobbly swapping him out would be risky

Heard various players inc Grimes talk about the closeness of team/squad, I just think it’s as simple as we’re collectively lacking in form and confidence at the moment. Both can return….hopefully quickly

This is a match where everyone needs to be on the top of their game , I've said in previous match threads where I wasn't bothered about performance just the points and still feel like that. I would take a shithouse 1-0 but would love a September/October performance and a statement 3/4-0 win.

I know we're at home, but I might be inclined to play 5 at the back and give Grimes a rest.

a lot of it is teams closing down those passing lanes, and the other bit is that our central striker or 10 isn't being brave enough to want to take the ball in those positions, then the defenders themselves losing confidence

it just shows really how finely tuned things are
