Interesting how he fails to mention the largest chunk of money and just says "going toward the commonwealth games".

Wonder if the money would of been made available if a different hedge fund owned the stadium

also wonder if because this will have an impact on the EU complaint

Might be naive of me, but could this affect Sisu's appeal to the EU at all? I doubt it, but what do others think? I doubt it can be taken into account, even though it should...

I am no expert but I think in the past the judgements have had to be done on evidence known at that time?

It is just a bailout, nothing more. Another one.

On the plus side it'll keep Wasps' losses at £10 million rather than 14.

Put another complaint in.

People complain that issue are litigious, which they are, but the council give them so much ammunition for legal cases.

This is beyond the pale corruption.

Also I imagine in 6 months people arguing the shit about stuff will have no idea it has happened.

Money for the Harrabins (Fargo) and Higgs (Drapers) as well. Seems a very small circle of people who always seem at the front of the queue when funding is being distributed.

Wonder if we will still be out of the city when the commonwealth games are on? Would be a shame if they got disrupted a little bit with all of the media attention going on.

To be fair, he seems to be more open to things now and I give him loads of stick but was the first to say fair play for not ignoring things which would have happened 2 or 3 years ago.

Lego head blows with the wind, he's asking questions of the council now because he knows that's where the public mood is lying and he might be able to monetise it down the line.

My thoughts exactly
Maybe a supporters group can put a complaint into the EU?
That way the council and their cronies can't blame everything on SISU to give them a smoke screen

EU state aid rules are currently suspended. This one is fine at the moment in theory.

I mentioned this a while ago on another thread that they were looking for £6m from the council. Cant remeber which thread and aint trawling back though them. I was told at the time by a mate working at the council it would NOT be granted. I told him at the time he was full of bullshit and I knew damn well, as did he, that it would go through! I'm still arguing with him on the group WhatsApp chat about it now

Probably a "MacDonalds" for the food & drink seeing as they wouldn't allow the other hotel project to have one.
3.8 million seems an awful lot of money for a refurbishment.

Wasps apply for £6m grant

So, I've heard from a friend who works for the council that the insects (Nick Eastwood to be precise) have applied for a £6m grant from the council to regenerate the erricson arena. Stating that they want to hold Judo and Wrestling for the commonwealth games there and afterwards apparently the...

It's a grant.
It's not unusual when major sporting events etc are held. Just "unfortunate" that it involves the Ricoh.
Council are still the ultimate owners.

Will the council be asking for anything in return so the tax payer will benefit rather than Wasps?

According to their website "Ricoh Arena is a world-class exhibition, event and conference centre" with "state-of-the-art conference and sports facilities". I really fail to see how they need millions in funding to put on a judo event.

Surely they could do the judo with some matts on the netball court, seats are already there.

Fuck it, let them waste money, Wasps are still going to go pop and this will barely make a dent in their losses.

Coventry to get £12m of government funding for key projects

The investment has been described as a ‘show of faith’ in Coventry
www.coventrytelegraph.net

Quick, play it down a bit. Just put a little paragraph about us bailing out the Ricoh again.

No. in these cases the argument is having the Commonwealth games in the Arena benefits local economy etc.
No-one likes it but if CCFC owned the Ricoh we would be thrilled with the grant and think it's not an issue.
It's a distraction from the real issues of what really went on with the rental talks etc. CCC quite happy for us to focus on this grant rather than the bigger picture.

How did the few football matches at the Ricoh for the Olympics benefit things? It hardly changed a thing. It's ironic that CCFC being in the championship seems to be ignored for the local economy but a couple of days of Judo is worth £3.8m to the tax payer.

It doesn't distract, it just makes the back-scratching and the indemnity look even more suspect.

What I'm surprised at is why you guys are surprised. CCC invited Wasps to the Ricoh and part of that agreement would be if Wasps got into financial difficulty. CCC would never let Wasps go under, whereas our City football club can.

see that's a valid point that should keep being thrown at the Council. Although they tend to play down the number whilst many other councils talk up the value of having a local football club in their area

As people have pointed out on twitter, they can "afford " to buy a new training ground and look to build a hotel!!

Typical that state aid laws are currently suspended due to Covid.... so basically waspsandthecouncil (one entity!) can rub it in our faces.....

It has been said for years, it maybe not as valid when we were League 2 but Championship is a game changer.

How much would a season being in the Championship give the economy compared to a few days of Judo that let's face it, nobody "really" gives a shit about.

By May 2022 SISU will own ACL and Wasps Rugby anyway.

So ultimately CCFC might benefit a bit...

You (probably won't have) heard it here first!
