Funny you say that. As I posted that she got a text saying they’re still looking into it.

Don’t blame anyone on the ground. The advice has been confusing as fuck. And they should have everyone in IMO.

From what I hear the WHO will be making statement that self isolation for medical staff who have been round family with symptoms will not be compulsory but it may come down to each individual hospitals decisions.

My other half works at a smallish hospital and 19, yes 19, Doctors rang in to self isolate today and this is just the beginning.....

It’s nuts. The missus works at the hospital. I came out of isolation the day the advice changed to household isolation for two weeks. She goes into work today and mentions it (she’s had no symptoms), staff start kicking off saying she should isolate. Occ Health say no she’s fine. Then later in the day change their mind and have now sent her home for two weeks. Despite the fact that I’m the one with the symptoms and I’m back at work. And this is the NHS!

Was just trying to look something up to confirm if it was in the advice or not, something I saw on twitter. Its not particularly easy to find the guidelines and when you do its not in a clear and simple format. Your average 'man on the street' isn't going to spend 15 mins reading some government document. If you go on the government website there's 8 different sections to read before you get to the latest updates. Go on the NHS site and it gives no indication if its been updated with the latest info or not.

IMO you should be able to go on pretty much any doctors, NHS, government (local and national) website and get, or have a obvious link to clear and simple instructions. You have to make it as easy as possible for people.

Agreed. I was looking for the home working advice this morning. It gives a link saying more info available for employers here, then there’s nothing on that page about home working. The comms have been an absolute shambles.

They won’t be relinquishing any of those powers even after this is long gone.

Kasbah open Monday night, the four provinces open yesterday and heaving. Ironically all the pubs are shut in Dublin.

Yeah it's quite incredible, the UK is heading for an Italy type situation, despite all that has gone on in recent weeks. There wa the exact same attiude here right up until the day the nationwide lockdown came into effect.

Agree sick boy/Pete. This is as much down to personal responsibility now. Had a mate ask me if we were still catching up this weekend (he’s got a couple of step kids, if I’ve got, pass to him, pass to them etc etc). People have got to start realise that now the measures have been put in place its time to (try their best to) follow them.

This is going to take a Herculean effort ! I’m self employed and live alone so gonna be a bit weird not seeing mates, family etc but right thing to do at the moment

ps I’m guessing school closures, formal closure of bars etc will be this week

They still seem bent on keeping schools open. I get that it will have a lower benefit on controlling the disease but I don’t see how we can keep it going with so much absence

I was talking to someone I know who is a school caretaker yesterday and he has type 2 diabetes and was told by the school he works at that yesterday was his last day for 12 weeks. They’ve basically told him he’s self isolating whether he wants to or not and from what he’s saying with the amount of staff and pupils self isolating each day the school will be closed by the end of the week anyway as there won’t be enough staff available to run a functional school. He also recons it’s a pattern in most schools so basically the government won’t have to make the decision, which is inline with their MO during the last week.

My school will keep going either until it’s impossible or the government says so. We really need the government to call this off.

I agree mate, I don’t get it (there must be some reasoning behind it as it’s not intuitive in conjunction with the current wider strategy)

All I’m guessing (as Tony has indicated) once you do close them I’d imagine they won’t reopen for a long time

1. Young people are the lowest risk and less important to transmission

2. It frees up those working in the health service

But the strain it is putting on us in school is huge as we are attempting to do 2 jobs at the same time.

This feels like the attitude my office is taking. Concerns me a bit - considering the job I do it isn’t easy to facilitate working from home but it would be achievable. I haven’t come down with any symptoms yet and I’m not really looking to take time off, but there’s basically no communication and, from what I understand, no contingency being worked on. Our office manager seems to be asleep at the wheel and is treating things as BAU.

Agreed. As someone mentioned yesterday the jobs done by teachers, hospital workers and shop workers will be key to our battle against this over the next 12-18 months

Half the kids round here never went to school this morning and that's not an exaggeration, it's more of an understatement.

It's also quite odd as they all went on Monday and Tuesday.

It's the same as buying bog roll.

People will be on Facebook telling each other their kids will die if they go to school.

Could be a shortage of teachers and the kids have been told not to bother coming in?

If we had a local newspaper they could tell us what was happening.

I think the theory, although no politician will want to admit, it is that if you are protecting the vulnerable (particularly the elderly), it is a good thing for the least vulnerable (children) and their parents to become infected as this increases immunity throughout the population and is least likely to require NHS/hospital treatment.

our company started sending vulnerable people home yesterday but only included type 1 diabetes on the list, strange that, though to be fair, throughout this, my work have been absolutely fucking useless.
