Even if they have no documentation Government ministers stood up in press conferences and said PPE was on its way from Turkey, I can't recall if Hancock said it, if he didn't then Raab definitely did.

Though in this new era of British politics being filmed live making a statement to the assembled media which is broadcast to the UK public no longer counts as proof.

If the Russia report has nothing in it that they are worried about, why are they going to such lengths to not show us it?

Do you even read the articles below the headlines?

Nowhere in the article apart from the headline does it state any scientist has agreed that any cut in social distance is "safe".

Also let us not pretend you'll be going to the pub, you have no friends to go with.

Backkkk!! Fucking virgins

If this thread teaches us anything it's that people will defend the indefensible on their behalf/
I see the Daily Mail isn't dropping the Robert Jenrick story and have expanded on it today, is Jenrick considered a close to Johnson? Is Gove working to keep the story alive?

Hahahaha you won’t be going the pub with anyone, all you do is sit on this from 4am every day

Why can’t you just be happy we’re reopening now that it’s safe?

Show us where it’s safe then.... just one snippet that would undoubtedly be able to sit firmly in that category.

Look at how much the virus is declining? Surely that’s enough to see that it’s safe, we’re not scrapping social distancing were just halving it

I have to get up 4pm as I like to start work early but you live at your mums kid. As you say things like "sauceless" and "backkkk"" I'd be willing to bet i have more friends than you.

So you going to show me where the "scientists" are saying this is safe in the UK? It doesn't say anything of the sort in the article you posted. Also you haven't commented on the fact that even the WHO are sceptical of their own report on social distances?

Another thing to ponder is it it really going to be "safe" until the failing tracking and trace system we have is functioning properly?

Me too - no disrespect to Dom but I don’t think he’s got a personal connection to this and I think it allows him to detach from reality somewhat. I’ve got a 11 year old with a compromised immune system that I am trying to protect. She is getting fractious, upset and confused because her friends are out socialising, not socially distancing and then thinking they will put her at risk in the future. She’s already not allowed in school, can’t do any of her normal activities and she is also acutely aware of how prevalent this virus STILL is despite how much people talk it down. I don’t give a fuck about the economy, and I don’t care about people’s desire and ability to re-connect and socialise. My daughters safety is paramount to me, and I so no evidence currently that tells me I should be dropping my guard whatsoever.

That really hasn’t aged well, already. Countries like NZ with anxiety so bad that they shut the boarders before they even had a death, now essentially Covid free and fully open for business. Whereas Boris thought he was being clever with his superman quip meaning it’s taking us longer to get to the other side and we’re now looking at a direct consequence of him and his governments incompetence to be the hardest hit economically in the world.

Personal connections definitely influence people somewhat. I was chatting to somebody who was saying to begin with they panicked, so shut down completely, but since they've had friends and relatives get it mildly, so what's the worry? You can kind of see where they're coming from really, tbf. Then again, I've had somebody who only now, three months after getting it, can function completely as before... and they're my age, too. So that, maybe, makes me more cautious than others too... and that's perfectly understandable!

But I want the medics to tell me it's safe. If they say further evidence has come to light that makes 1m acceptable then fine, I'll buy into it. Otherwise...?

We’ve been in regular contact with doctors at John Radcliffe in Oxford. Even now they are absolutely crystal clear about shielding, and consistently say how much they DON’T know about this virus still. I want to hear from people like this - the real experts IMO.

I'd like to know what incentive they think the teaching unions, which are headed and led by teachers, have to stop other teachers from doing their job in school. I would much rather be in school than doing remote teaching but we didn't have the evidence on children's role in transmission of the virus which in my view was a major condition of reopening.

However now Williamson and Johnson have committed themselves to full reopening in September, that presumably means an end to social distancing and a wider return to normality. The former Ofsted chief continuously arguing for teachers to come in over the summer, perhaps voluntarily, is further madness. If you burn us out we will do a worse job back in September.

It's all about deflecting blame. Most of their voters, already resentful of teachers because they themselves did not do particularly well at school, will equate unions with inaction - despite the fact that many of the industries they themselves work in were once dominated by unions.

For years there has been a need for some kind of framework to help deliver teaching - for instance, National lesson plans and what not to reduce teacher workloads. Obviously this would create a different issue of originality in the deliverance of lessons, but the lack of some kind of framework to ease the workload is an issue, and has exposed England in particular. For instance, Wales already have a well established online learning platform. There isn't, however, an incentive for the government to roll that out in England - Johnson and his fellow Balliol friends know that their best chances of clinging onto power are to keep the masses uneducated.

Compare it to how it has declined in other countries - places that decided when they had it at the levels we do it was categorically not safe to open yet.

Just because a car has slowed down from 60 to 20 doesn't mean it's a good idea to walk out in front of it.

Again nowhere in that article does any scientist say it is safe to move to 1m.

The BBC are also reporting on this, "the UK government's scientific advisers say that being 1m apart carries up to 10 times the risk of being 2m apart". The BBC article also refers to the CEO of UK Hospitality, "reducing it to 1m meant rather than generating 30% of normal revenue and losing money, businesses could break even at 70% of normal revenue".

Does that sound like they are relaxing the rule because its safe or for financial reasons?

Have a look at other places that have opened up bars, restaurants etc before getting the numbers right down and look at what happened when those places opened up.
