Interesting that France now states their first case was back in 2019.....adding more weight to the argument that it was here, spreading & mis-diagnosed throughout January....

France's first coronavirus case 'was in December'

I'm convinced we had it in Feb. All the drs asked was if we'd been to China or been near someone who'd been to china, as we said no they just said it was flu despite us having had the flu jab. I had it quite mild but I've never seen the missus so poorly literally bed bound for a week, I was on the verge of phoning an ambulance 3-4 times as she couldnt breathe and her temperature took 5 days to come down to normal..

He has a point though.

No one is going to give a rats were something us made and the vast majority of things will be made in china still.

UK manufacturers do not have the capacity or ability to charge china level prices.

In what could be a great depression level event no one will want to pay the increased costs.

In that case you crack on, I look forward to China being forced into economic submission by the combined industrial powerhouses of Astute and Ernie.

You hate it when someone shows you to be wrong. Why not just admit it.

Or would you like to point out where I said China would be overtaken by anyone? Of course not. You just do a G and make your own story up.

Exactly. The UK is floundering, next up is Brexit, the whole country is going to be strapped for cash, and we are a million miles away from being anywhere near as competitive as China.

You put your Union Jack stickers on everything, the Chinese will sell it for much less- and we'll see what people choose.

Didn’t we spread foot and mouth through the EU by exporting cattle contaminated with it. I’m sure we all remember the cow bonfires of 2001. Ironically the government also cancelled Cheltenham that year to stop the spread.

The vegans should sue the meat eaters. After all this was a zoonotic virus that jumped a species because a meat eater ate another species that was carrying it. Where do we want to stop going with this?

lots of ordinary working people lost their jobs as a result of the 2008 banking crisis, not only that, they ended up footing the bill via austerity!
A quick look through Google suggests there's no mechanism in international law for suing a country responsible for a pandemic. if the States pursue it it will just be down to geopolitical cock waving.

Meanwhile the rest of us are just going to have to get on with it and lets be honest no one is going to formally censure China in any big way. You work for Land Rover, if your order bank from China goes through the roof in the next year you're going to say thank you very much, build 'em and ship 'em, and why the fuck wouldn't you?

Seems to me everyone’s seeing what they want in this crisis.

Environmentalists saying well all work from home and reduce consumption: not going to happen

Technologists saying well all do remote work and online learning: not going to happen

Left wingers pushing UBI: not going to happen

Isolationists pushing reduced globalisation: not going to happen.

The economic forces driving all those things will still exist post virus.

wouldn't be surprised if Trump, (or even Biden for that matter), make a big noise about it during the election campaign with no real appetite to actually pursue it.

All they can really do is increase tariffs which are just passed on to the end consumer making things more expensive.

Ultimately you've got to look after yourself as nobody else will. I would like to see us rely less on the east and Europe for parts and start making them here again. It's the old problem of cost though and greedy shareholders wanting everything done on a shoestring.

Havent a clue. This is a bit different though surely? The world has come to a standstill through the Chinese not being honest. I just thought in an ideal world people who've lost loved ones who they're dependent on,jobs, homes could have some kind of compensation to help them out.

China not being honest as soon as they could have been is irrelevant to a certain extent. When a virus this menacing gets out it’s out. The only thing that’s changed is the timescale not the actual outcome. As I’ve already pointed out Cheltenham was cancelled in the 2001 foot and mouth crisis but this government let it go ahead. Should anyone who contracted it at Cheltenham sue the government for taking lesser action than they did 19 years ago against less contagious and less dangerous virus?

The moral indignation is amazing.

We kill an estimated 29 million people in the name of colonisation, take £billions away from India, invent concentration camps, wipe out entire populations, steal their wealth & artefacts, take their land- we have no comment to make. The Chinese lose control of a virus and it spreads throughout the world, and we make an utter fuck up of dealing with it- boycott China, sue them, how dare they, they're evil, it was on purpose, lets get them back, while the Chinese snigger at the stupidity & then get back to work doing what they do best.

We are the last nation on earth who has any right to be dictating the wrongs that any other country has committed (with USA rapidly catching up on the rails).

Nothing is going to change.

Irrelevant. In your train of thought we caused it therefore every country who fell foul to it should be suing us.

ok lets get down to brass tacks then. Why don't you draw up a list of reparations each country now has to make to even things up for the offences they've committed against the rest of the world.

I was pondering why this latest virus name has no reference to Wuhan or China though......I mean we've had the Spanish flu, MERS, SARS, Ebola etc......why is it not called Wuhan-19 or China-crisis for example?

Going by this thread at the moment "foreigner flu" would probably be the most apt name.
