Just read the following online from an article taken from the Guardian...

For much of the week, it’s been as if the government has gone out of its way to appear wilfully clueless. First, the psychotically unstable Dominic Raab, then the pathologically untrustworthy Michael Gove, culminating with the shambolically underprepared Alok Sharma.

Every time someone mentions the bias of the 'tory press' they need to remember there is bias the other way too!

Bizarrely the article went on to say 'Thank God for Matt Hancock'

It was reported by NHS England yesterday that the first death in the UK was actually at some point before the reported first death on 5th March, and was in Liverpool not in Berkshire as reported in the press.

There has been some criticism over the accuracy of other countries' numbers, given the above I don't have much faith in ours either.

Btw, my sister died of a respiratory disease 9 weeks ago, we still do not have a full death certificate confirming a cause of death. Therefore I suspect there could be data lags all over the place.

Nope, but it is their fault that they completely failed to communicate the risks after having all the info to hand for a couple of months previously.

There seem to be lots of companies coming out of the woodwork claiming to have test kits available, some at surprisingly low prices, but we do have to know if they work before putting them to use. For all I know most may be genuine but some could be fake.

REVEALED: When lockdown is predicted to end in Spain as experts say country's coronavirus hospitalisations have already peaked - Olive Press News Spain

Experts saying the lockdown will be 25% of the population every 7 days from possibly May 1st, do you think we might do that here possibly starting from June/July the 1st if things improve??

I didn't see it either - just don't really agree with a national paper describing a cabinet member as 'psychotically unstable'. If they are going throw around negative statements they should focus on factual ones like the inability of a Labour cabinet minister to understand basic maths, perjury but Lib Dem MPs or a PM who tries to avoid questions about how many children he has.

Who knows? But soon as there is the slightest chance to do it without reintroducing a new batch of infections they will lift it to a degree, for workers to get something moving. The 'public' side- pubs etc will be a lot later I would suspect.

There are enough facts out there to not have to need to be branding someone as mentally ill after one press conference.

haha, you been missing me mate. Working all morning so not had the chance to catch up.

I’ll repeat what ive been saying for the last couple of weeks (feel free to check back at posts). Testing for NHS workers (and their families) who are off needs sorting and is inexcusable and if there are still PPE distribution problems I can’t defend this. As I’ve also said, I’m not even that fussed currently about wider community testing at the moment whilst we’re all in lockdown (will be needed in due course)

I will however also repeat that stuff like the shielding of elderly (getting food parcel deliveries up and running in days), the temp hospital being operational within two weeks, with others to follow and the volunteer scheme set up quickly are a few positives. Also, the fact that we are (currently) within ventilator capacity (75%), so let’s hope it stays that way whilst the new ventilators arrive.

Ps I can’t understand how they have been able to do the hospital and start the food parcel delivery services and not sort the other two issues detailed. Bizarre

I keep hearing about "testing kits". I'm an old fart and don't quite grasp the idea that these are the next wonder thing. So, you have a "test" and then what? Told you're gonna snuff it? Told you had it a few weeks ago, so you can go outside now? What I'd like to hear, instead of testing kits, is who's winning the race to find a bloody cure? Sorry to sound a bit shitty, but I am extremely high risk and just want a vaccine ASAP!

Lots of potential cures being tested, things are looking very good on that front however the only downside is we won't have one till at least the start of next year i reckon

The current kits are to say if you currently have the pathogen in your system. They dont offer a prognosis

Interesting...I believe the figures out of Liverpool Royal & BG released earlier this week reported total deaths covering the first 3 weeks in March....yet were added to the daily total, so as you say lags & inacccuracies all over the shop....

Ours does not record deaths outside of hospitals so there will be more

Spain seems higher because it does make some attempt to evaluate deaths in their care home system and classes those who displayed symptoms as corona deaths

Germany seems to have tested very few in the vulnerable age category and also seems to class non confirmed deaths in hospital not as Coronavirus deaths but the symptom they were admitted for

France have made an estimate of deaths outside hospital but admit it’s a estimate and considerably under called

Some Italian towns have 900% more deaths than last March but typically less than half down to the virus as they were not tested

Better estimates will take months after the crises to evaluate which is why comparisons across countries of totally different strategies is irrelevant

I was having a discussion with a friend the other day who made quite an interesting point. Please feel free to disagree or to put in your two cents as it's only one POV.

Whether the season goes ahead or not will could potentially be dictated by the TV deals as if the season is cancelled as Sky/BT may threaten to demand significant amounts of money back from the Premier League if the games are not played. Whether they can do that or not I'm not sure, but knowing the legal backing such companies have behind them I'm sure there would either be loopholes or certain protections in place to guard themselves. IF they are within their rights to do this it may serve the Premier League better to play behind close doors and finish the season up within a matter of weeks rather than fork out potentially tens of millions to reimburse Sky/BT for the games obviously not being shown.

It's been previously mentioned by several people within football, and media pundits alike that it's likely whatever the Premier League do, the EFL will follow suit. So, I wonder if this is how it will play out and if TV companies could in fact dictate whether the season goes ahead or not.

No he was referring to one of the testing agents that offered the swab test

The test being used now isn’t fully accurate as apparently some people were tested who clearly had it and it did not record as the disease as sometimes the disease is only located in the lungs

Should have known better than to defend the government! What an absolute shambles.

So Hancock is promising 100K tests a day in England, a combination of diagnostic and antibody tests but at the same time saying the tests we have don't work.

That's before you even consider Johnsons target back on 19th March was 250K a day.
We're massively increasing the testing to see whether you have it now and ramping up daily testing from 5,000 a day, to 10,000 a day, to 25,000 and then up to 250,000

I don't have political bias, I hate them all- far as I'm concerned if you're in charge the buck stops with you, and if you fuck up you're the ones accountable. I hate the "labour would have done this" stuff as I don't even know who is in Labour these days, and its irrelevant.

Would be like if Mark Robins took us back to League two losing every game and people were saying "yeah but its Andy Thorn's fault", "Mowbray would have been even worse"- meaningless, they are in charge so they need to be held fucking accountable.

Watching the recent government broadcasts and interviews, I felt that Gove looked competent but when facts checked found he was lying. Raab was incredibly boring and almost fell asleep listening to him and he was incredibly vague.
As for Matt Hancock, he came across as a nice bloke who looks hopelessly out of his depth.
As for the academic experts - if you've ever seen academics have a "professional discussion" about research where they all have their own agendas....well it makes Fury v Wilder fight look like a mild scuffle. So the validity of the strategy promoted depends on "which" expert the government believes.
