Looking likely that there will be over a million cases very soon.

The way this thing spreads is incredible:

70 days taken to get from 0 to 100,000 cases
12 days taken to get from 100,001 to 200,000 cases
3 days taken to get from 200,001 to 300,000 cases
2 days taken to get from 300,001 to 400,000 cases
2 days taken to get from 400,001 to 500,000 cases
2 days taken to get from 500,001 to 600,000 cases
1 day taken to get from 600,001 to 700,000 cases

Public Health England today expended testing capacity from 1 to 12 dedicated laboratories. So thats good news. Then you look at some other countries.. Germany has 174, South Korea has 96.

Its hard to not believe there may be an element of truth to this, we can't be this stupid, inept and incompetent can we?

I think we'll unfortunately continue to see an upward trend for a while because we've got new cases coming in but the old ones are still ongoing (there's very few 'cured' cases in the stats although I'm sure many have been moved from ICU onto general wards etc to recuperate once out of danger).

So the workload on the staff and need for the equipment is increasing while at the same time more staff themselves are getting sick from exposure and lack of PPE.

So I expect it will take even a bit longer than expected to see the effects of the lockdown measures not just due to lag time of the infection but also because of the ongoing natures of cases and how long it takes to resolve

Facts are facts- the way this was handled all the way through must go down as the most catastrophic mismanagement seen in the country for many decades. From being briefed in advance and ignoring, herd immunity, the multiple U turns, the farcical mishandling of communication on what to do, failing to test, failing to equip the health workers, it has been a total disgrace from the start, and its still a disgrace.

Although this isn't the time for it it does seem like Johnson/Tories once again lucked out having the election just before this blew up in their face because they've got five years for this to be done and people to forget about it before they have to be answerable for it.

Had we got an election coming up at the time of the US elections for example you do wonder if the outcome may have been different as the value of the NHS and public services is really coming into the spotlight. Even some of the more radical stuff from Labour is becoming a distinct possibility in this crisis.

But that's for later.

There are enough apologists & spin doctors for it to have turned into how they "brought the country together and proved once and for all we are a strong independent nation that can overcome any obstacle".

For Gove to stand there and bang on about us being independent when thousands of people have died and he'd just been shown up for the lies about the procurement scheme- just shows the character of these people.

Bit of an exaggeration ROS and a bit early to make sweeping statements

I’m not saying I disagree with some of the points you make and you might end up being proved right, but we won’t know for several weeks and months how the government has handled this overall (in particular in comparison with other countries - what I mean by this is that it’s a global pandemic so a majority of countries are underprepared/may not deal with this well)

It's too early to see how our measures will stack up against other countries and even then they will be difficult to compare due to differing population densities, cultural differences in lifestyle etc.

There are questions to be answered. The communication was poor and not assertive enough. The information released on ventilators and equipment that has since been questioned with conflicting remarks suggesting the whole truth is not being told. Why were the warnings over years ignored that led to this lack of preparation? Why are we not testing as much as others when that is the only surefire method of accuracy we have?

Even then we'll never know if anyone else would've dealt with this crisis any better in the situation we found ourselves in.

TBF the NHS in England has moved towards having hub labs a few years ago, we used to have many more but it was seen as inefficient having pathology services on different hospital sites with different levels of capability, so a lot of them have merged into regional pathology services. Geographically this country is much much smaller than Germany as well.

Hows this? Apparently your risk from dying from CV is the same as your risk from dying anyway over the next year. So you should be no more worried about CV than you would’ve been doing your normal life over the next year.

No, you can talk about it when you want and in particular raise the issues that are live now (PPE or if we were breaching ICU/ventilator capacity etc) but I’m just saying you can’t make sweeping statements on the governments overall performance when we don’t know the outcome. As I say you may be right but you also might be wrong, only time will tell

That’s exponential growth.
