I’d like to think end of April some businesses will be starting up again because we will be in the position to do so safely.
Fingers crossed

The way I’m looking at it is we’re 2-3 weeks behind Italy, so until they’re out of lockdown we are 2-3 weeks minimum away.

Does anyone actually think we will be able to carry on as normal once this three week period has finished?

I can see us being locked down for another three weeks after the current period has ended.

How long will people obey lockdown before a bit of anarchy sets in?

So as not to get myself disappointed I’m ready for it to be 6 months to a year.

Only another 3 weeks? It is going to continue until they stop doing an impression of a tin of sardines on the underground in London. Then you need to add the incubation time on top.

What is the use of putting everyone in lockdown and letting others contaminate each other?

It’s likely to be some restrictions for at least 3 months I would guess - and probably with more restrictions planned in the winter months

Same here. I normally spend a quarter of my time with the wife and kids. We work on a 70 day system. 4 on 4 off. 7 lots of 4 on then 18 days off. My next time with family is end of April. Not going to happen. Then due over 2nd week of July. Sure it won't be happening. What we are hoping for is the next one in September.

It’s the on off element that will make this difficult to manage

Depends which way you look at it.

The wife had another 15 days added to her lockdown yesterday. She is expecting it to last much longer but she had a moment after it was announced. Yet she is expecting it to get extended several times. She can't plan anything. She can't tell them when they will go to school again. She can't tell them when they will see their dad next.

But can you imagine being told we are in lockdown for 4 months then they will reconsider the situation? Knowing for at least 4 months you will just see 4 walls the vast majority of the time. And fir many people who are just learning about the person they are living with and have no escape. Boredom. Financial problems building up. Kids constantly arguing.

Neither are ideal. But a 3 week sentence is easier to face than a 4 month plus sentence.

Being semi positive if Trump opens up the USA other countries will not want to be left behind in getting back to some normality.
I am hearing here in KSA is that the death toll is not
important as much as who is dying and they have now identified that so it will soon be time to open the doors for business.
One other thought that is prevalent is that 5000 have died what is another 5000 in the big picture? People will be used to the total and become immune not to the virus but the news.

Surely the main one and the last one to be relaxed will be pubs. And if I’m honest that’s the main one I’m bothered about. That will be ages.

More time off then I get. I do 7 days, 7 nights a month. 12 hour shifts. Won’t go into the full details of the shift pattern as it’s complicated, and I’m already boring myself, but every fourth week I get 8 days off in a row. Almost limitless overtime available as well so now I’m working from home I’m going to do as much as I can.

Plus we are busy as fuck at the moment. Never seen anything like it. (Pharmaceutical industry)

The best to expect is behind closed door arrangements , Government is keen on some sort of sport resumption as a moral booster.

Agree with this, have said elsewhere that we are all going to have to write a year off. Hope your 6 months is nearer the mark.

My guess is the restrictions will be relaxed by the end of May. Kids back at school for the final half term.

My worry is we’ll need to do this all again for the usual flu season so we could all be locked up over Xmas and into February.

The economic side effects and those on family life will be huge.

Society will be very different after this and I’m not sure we have any idea what the long term ramifications will be.

I’m hoping the weather does have an impact. Was due to move down under in June but that’s gone to shit now. Hopefully things get better over the summer months due to the heat, I can then fly over in the autumn and get two consecutive summers avoiding the worst of it and benefiting from immunity building up in the population.

I wonder if initially it will be limited opening times/days to manage the number of cases.

Not sure if the kids going back then but agree with the other stuff.

The point around Winter flu and second wave is a major concern. I’m not going to get into the whole government/their advisors strategy again but that is one of the reasons they model/remodel their data and I understand one of their main considerations around the timing of restrictions/distancing measures (and why they need certain numbers to get it now gradually ie if they don’t and there’s a massive wave during winter/in conjunction with winter flu numbers, the health service will be fucked).

Already excepted the conclusion that no foreign holidays this year and even a planned snowdonia short break in May is unlikely
