And this is how it starts in the football world. You have to think now that Forest are going to be candidates for self-isolation if they all met the owner recently. And if one team can’t play, what then? It’s just a matter of time before players and club staff start testing positive. If that happens they’ll have to call the season off, surely?

I’m really not sure how you can ‘pause’ an entire league for weeks or months and still hope to play the games.

It has to be PPG. Only fair(ish) way.

I would bet there are a fair few staff / players with it at the minute who think it is just a cold.

I would think they would do it for two weeks and then review. They wouldn't just call the season off.

It isn't going to be cured in 2 weeks though.

Footballers have to be the least vulnerable people going, young athletes at the peak of their fitness with very few underlying health concerns.

Player wages will be the problem. Everything else most clubs can probably just about manage, especially if they haven't got the cost of putting games on.

Problem is when you get down to L1 and L2 the players won't be able to go just pay us later like they could afford to do in the Prem.

Probably not but it’s just been said on tv that in China the virus has reduced significantly and there were more cases yesterday in Britain than China so looks like something has worked

Yeah he said there was a couple of illnesses. To a pro sportsman they might be fit and healthy enough to pass it off as a bit of a cold.

They couldn't just cancel a season and be done with it, too many financial implications.

Teams like us for example would want to be granted promotion where as teams like villa would argue they could stay up.

Nobody will take it very well if they just scrap it and start again next season

Someone at my wife's work has been tested. Haven't heard anything yet!
My wife was in a meeting for 4 hours with her on Friday, if she has it so could my wife and so could I.
I am going to the game on saturday!

At least it’ll give Joy a court case with 100% support among City fans. The EFL would get butt raped if they tried to just write the season off.

The one certainty in all this is that no one knows what's going to happen or how much the virus is going to spread further or start receding.

I'm pretty sure that the season won't be cancelled or curtailed though as there would be potential lawsuits that the EFL don't want. The only thing that will happen will be suspensions or delays with games potentially behind closed doors. That's it.

For something like a football season to be cancelled it would come from Government and alongside football it would be spectator sport, cinemas, theatres things like travel, trains, planes, underground etc, etc.

They've been incredibly meticulous with regards checks and containment, people entering the country have been rigorously screened whereas here there were tweets from people sauntering through the airport after flying back from Italy as if nothing's happened.

When this thread was first started, I definitely thought it was a bit farfetched. As time has gone on (and not much of it), it's looking increasingly like it holds weight.

Well, yup, that would kind of make sense in one respect, but it wouldn't quite work if they did stop the season now for instance.

Fleetwood are on the same points as Sunderland, but have played a game less. There is always going to be that headache isn't there.

If all teams have all played exactly the same amount of games there could be an argument to end the season, but it's never the case is it.

I know we say it mostly in jest, but I don't think you can just end the season early.

Behind closed doors seems to be the only feasible option.

Suspension doesn't seem fair, nor does cessation. Behind closed doors is not fair on the fans, but would probably work as the best solution.

I'd suggest all games not played are draws. Point each.
The EFL would pass the buck, probably let the pools panel decide.

They allowed a flight full of people from Milan that landed after they had announced the first lock down in Lombardy to waltz straight through without any checks

I was thinking that yesterday. The response to containing the virus entering into the UK has been pathetic.

It has to get to a level that justifies it. With no vaccine the most sensible option is to contain for as long as possinlevthen delay the epidemic until the warmer months when the flu virus is normally weaker and doesn't live as long.

Wingy my friend in the last 3 years an average of 15000 people per year have died in this country from influenza are you really suggesting that 150000 are likely to die from Coronavirus?
