Consolidation

[Rugby Sky Blue]

I think that’s right to be fair. Not sure why everyone is saying it’s negative either thing it’s pretty pragmatic and I wouldn’t see that as a failure. We massively overachieved to sneak in the playoffs this year and while it would’ve been a fairytale ending if we made it happen and were agonisingly close…I’m not sure it was every the plan really

Agreed and if Vik and Hamer leave which is very likely we are left with quite a big hole to fill.

[robbiekeane]

You don’t like accepting mid table is negative after this season, Wow

I think you look at the bigger picture and say if we’ve signed 8 new players all fantastic potential on 3 year contracts but take a year to bed in but look likely to smash it the following season I think that’s not the worst thing in the world

Next season will be transitional

mid table

[covboy9]

Doug king has an opportunity now, put vik and Hamer on prem wages with a non-promotion clause, show your loyalty to the club. Strengthen the squad, robins is shrewd he won’t need loads off money, keep the system but strengthen key areas

the success will give crowds of 25k+ we have the momentum now we can’t just chuck it away, success brings money a failing team means a failing club, the fans havnt seen the board back the manager and the club for over 20years it is now time to do that

you give robins a new deal , robins deserves backing and should demand it NOW

[mmttww]

Will be lucky to finish top half next season, with the teams coming down and the likes of Norwich , Middlesbrough, wba , Watford

This was our chance this season, we got let down badly

Bore off. Same sh*t from people last season. "Dis was are yeer!" MR and the Team have delivered every season. No evidence they can't plug the gaps in the summer and push on. It's not as if it's news we'd need lots of players - without the play off run, we were always going to be bringing in 8-10 new people to the squad. Plans will be in place. I'm looking fwd to it.

[SeaSeeEffCee]

I'd have more confidence if the recruitment team that brought in Hamer, Gyokeres, O'Hare and Sheaf were still at the club. The current recruitment team have a lot to prove this summer.

This is just not realistic tbh. Keep both, paying them prem wages and also invest in the squad? Where is that money coming from? DK is not a Saudi prince.

Our total wage bill is what, about £12 million? Paying Gus and Vik the kind of wages they might command in the PL would swallow around £6-7 millon, potentially 30-40% of the entire club turnover on 2 players, either of whom could easily get a bad injury during the season.

Would be madness to do that. Hate to say it, but they probably have to go and that allows us to rebuild.

[fatso]

Quite right mate, there's some right whinging fucks on here.

We've just tied our 2 biggest assets down on 4 year contracts.

Worse case scenario, we loose 2 key players, but so what, we will have 20+ million to rebuild.

Best case scenario, we keep Vik and/or Hamer and get rid of the dead wood, retain a couple of the loan defenders, and add some quality, and kick on again.

Personally I don't know which I'd prefer
Either way we back MR.

We are City.

We fight till the game is won!
(Or at least till Dabo sky's the only chance he'll ever have to score for us)

[bigfatronssba]

We have to be at least in or around the playoffs next season.
Anything less will be a failure.

No. This got us in trouble before.

Keep the club well run and within its means, and we will get there eventually.

No gambling with the future of the club

[Sky Blue Harry H]

That won’t be good enough anything shy of top six will be failure in my opinion.

Think that's a bit harsh

Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, West Brom, Norwich, Middlesbro,

There are more clubs I could list, but to be insisting we should finish higher any of the above teams is a brave call, given the likely turnover in personnel. we may do it, but finishing 7th or 8th could hardly be called failure. If anybody levelled that at MR next season, I'd be more than a tad p8ssed off on his behalf. That said, obviously the top 6 is the target, otherwise why turn up at all.

Isn't that borderline contradicting yourself?
I agree with the first thoughts, but don't agree that mid-table would be failure. Going to be a tough league next season.

[rexo87]

We need to just enjoy the Championship.

Next year we'll be playing big boys most weeks.

To put it into perspective, when we were in League 2, Southampton, Leicester, West Brom, Swansea, Watford, Huddersfield and Stoke were all in the Premier League. We're playing them all next season.

4/5 years ago, we'd get excited at the prospect of Notts County coming to the CBS with 1500 fans. Next season the majority will bring 3000 or more.

Matchday experience is great now. So many more options for drinking. The atmosphere is class. Plus, we start the season in hope of a play off push. That's what it's all about!

Exactly. Used to look with envy at clubs that have got what we have got now

Not really.

We’ve proved that we can make top 6 without risking the future of the club.

We just need to keep doing what we’re doing

It will be a tough league next season. But we have to improve. If we don’t improve then it’s a failure

Sometimes to go two steps forward you have to take a step back. Not saying we can't do it, but the likely major overhaul needed over the summer means that I wont necessarily consider being out of the top 6 a failure.

[Rugby Sky Blue]

But enough cash to more than fill it.

Exactly so recruitment needs to be good. Get that part right then we could challenge for a top finish again but my concern is you don't find gems like Vik too often.

You would like to think so, just playing devil's advocate here, but what if Doug King is as bad as Sisu

I don’t think we need to. We had two Prem players this season a couple of top end champ a few low end and a few L1. If we can make that mostly top end champ it’ll be a significant step forwards.

I’m not saying it would be a failure to not be in the top 6.
I’m saying it would be a failure to not be in contention.

We need to be top half, we chance of play Off’s right up to the end of the season.

That's my current thinking. I think we'll struggle to do as well as this year, but if we maintain a chance of the play-offs until at least the last few weeks and finish top half that would be acceptable.

[croatskyblue]

Surely ‘consolidation’ means playoffs again?

Finishing 5-8 places lower than you did the previous season is deterioration, not consolidation

[BackRoomRummermill]

Next season we will go up

[Gynnsthetonic]

You can't consolidate after finishing 5th, we have to move onwards and upwards

[SBAndy]

Last time we made wholesale changes to the squad we won the league…

[Sky Blue Pete]

I’d dare to say we only unearthed potential it was yok robins and vivash that have made the player he now is
That’s an attractive proposition for other potential stars

[Yorkshire SB]

Agreed with other posters - you can't stand still in football. That said, we were brilliant this season and will be a huge ask given the likely departures.

I think a lot depends on what direction Robins goes in. The ball-dominant style we had in L1 is probably what is needed for top 2, however I think we will stick to counter attacking. It allows you to compete with teams that are better resourced, as more reliant on tactics and coaching than individual quality.

I wonder if we will adopt something more hybrid? I feel as though our countering relies on a player like Vik up top and players who can release quickly and accurately down channels like Hamer. Players like Godden have obviously been sacrificed for our recent system and focus around Vik so without him I wonder if we will try to mould it around spreading goals throughout the team more. Plus we will have Palmer and O'Hare back hopefully so may be able to "play" a bit more.

The average PL wage is £60k pw. The average championship salary is £7k pw. It's totally unrealistic to put Hamer and Vik on premier league wages (£6-7m per annum combined), let alone do that AND invest in the squad. Plus agents would soon realise how much we pay them and it would inflate the wage demands of any incoming players.

It's how we got in to the mess to start with.

[Offhegoes]

Despite our great run this season, I did miss our lovely passing football which disappeared (and for good reason) once we lost O'Hare and then Palmer. With those 2 back next season, and a couple of new strikers, I hope we get back to that style, and win the league. I wouldn't bet against it

[Yorkshire SB]

I think we might get more for Gyokeres and Hamer than people think.

The numbers they posted, and the noise and attention they've received - I'd be disappointed if we weren't looking at £30m between the two of them.

1 year left, but irrelevant if there's a bidding war.

Missing out on the Premier League is a shame and still hurting, and I think it might be a few years before we really challenge again, but yes I agree. The Championship is a great league to be in. Some good away days, expect some big followings to the CBS, decent players on show and it's competitive. One of the best leagues in football imo

[Great_Expectations]

Have faith.

MR/AV et al have rebuilt us before. We’ve been through the current situation before; losing our “best” players, having to rebuild a squad, picking up a team after a big disappointment, building a tight knit squad after a high turnover of players.

And this pre season he gets to do it with a better budget, an enhanced reputation (personally and the club) and (relative) off field stability.

[bigfatronssba]

Look at how much Doyle and Norton-Cuffy have gained from their loan spells with us?

PL managers will be falling over themselves to loan us their youngsters next year.
