The noises from this end is that Chaplin will be gone from Pompey this week. Some supporters seem to be upset that he 'refused' to be in the squad because he didn't 'feel he was in the right place in his head'. Personally I think that most Pompey supporters sympathise with him but still don't want him to leave, this is the group I belong to. Fanatical supporters of any club seem to think that players playing for their club should be just as fanatical as they are. Conor Chaplin is both a Pompey fan and professional footballer and the professional footballer in him is driving this move because if he can't ply his trade for his favoured club he must move on to somewhere he can show his talent. Most reasonably minded people can see that is the right thing for him to do because at 21 he could become a wasted talent which would be such a shame. When he packs up profesional football he can come and watch his favourite team from the terraces like he did before. Your manager has chased Chaplin for some time which will make your club favourites to sign him as the player knows he is really wanted at your club. Mr Robbins is no idiot and he will, no doubt, know that Chaplin is no lone striker and will need to be in a striking partnership to bring out the best in him. He is not unlike McNulty but not identical. I think Chaplin has far more pace and can score from all different angles but I think McNulty has a better footballing brain and will see passes better by bringing in other forward players than Chaplin. I think Chaplin will develop into a Tony Cotee (for those old enough to remember him) sort of player but he needs to stamp out his ridicules diving.

Is that one of those ponzi schemes? I think SISU might have something to say about that!

That's the longest sentence I've ever read on SBT, and not a comma to be seen. No mean feat to read that out aloud in one breath.

What is it with you and punctuation?
Do you have anything constructive at all to add to this forum?

No surprise there, Nick. He's still a Pompey player (if only in theory).

What happens if he comes and doesn't score in his debut? Another crap signing from Robins.

Time is running short - clearly no sign of him coming up today if he’s training with them.

We may have to wait until January

Some interesting views today from the Porstmouth Fans FB pages (below). Generally good things and sounds like most think he is a good player who should really be given a chance.

Keith Mountifield - Personally I smell the breath of a money-grabbing agent whispering in his ear and unsettling him. He's been happy here in the past and worked hard for the club, but someone he trusts has spoiled his attitude and convinced him that he should move. I don't think Kenny Jackett could have done much different other than succeed in getting a replacement, and once he's identified his target it's then down to others to close the deal.

Noonie Dickinson - Chaplin is a good player but he is not the kind we need he is not suited to the style of football we are trying to play. He probably would suit Coventry, but we need someone with a bit of speed someone like Defoe.

Keith Miller - If we can get a replacement he goes otherwise, he stays and trains hard. There can only be one boss of a team, you can't have players deciding whether or not they want to be in a match day squad. I hope he gets a move as it's becoming a distraction. The point a player doesn't feel right to be in the squad is the point he goes and trains with the juniors until his attitude changes. Jackett can't find a place for him in the team permanently, neither could Cook. Either they are both useless managers (recent history would suggest otherwise) and Chaplin knows best or there is something else going on.

Peter Loten - Let's hope for some movement this week. Conor has been a great servant to this club and we all wish him well.Chris Pompey FCI don't think his agent has anything to do with it, I just think he's realised his career is going to waste at Pompey.

Peter Walsh - He has always given this club 100 per cent - just a shame that han't been reciprocated by Jackett. I fully understand what he says when he wasn't in the right frame of mind. Imagine if your boss said you were not wanted in the business but instead of letting you leave he asked you to come in on your day off as 'he needed you'. Would you be in the right frame of mind to give 100 per cent.

Stephen Toman
Wasting his time, everyone needs a run in the team there are a number of players who have been given an extended run in the team before being dropped. He has never had that opportunity when a player starts to feel more relaxed and able to take opportunities without the pressure of having to score in a 30 minute cameo. He obviously has the ability to put the ball away as his goals to minutes ratio confirms best he gives that talent to another team than waste it at Portsmouth.

1. Punctuation and spelling are essential to make sense of the written word. I grew up taking an interest in these things.
2. Apart from some grammatical input? I do, from time to time, give my opinion on football matters. Often as not though, someone beats me to it and I don't really see the point of repeating what's already been said. I do enjoy a bit of repartee, in the expectation that people will treat it as a bit of light-hearted fun. This forum would be a dark place without the likes of Otis, Hill83, Usskyblue, etc and if it was populated entirely by the likes of your good self, I'd be over the hills and far away.

How about a poll Nick? As now it's getting close to crunch time.

Will Chaplin sign this window? Yes or No.

Syncopated?

Is that a mix of Sycophantic and Synchronised? They both fall over together and suck up to the ref afterwards?

The members you talk of make valued contributions (well sometimes) to the subjects being discussed.
You, however appear intent on taking a “high and mighty” approach, which comes across as both condescending and belittling.
This is a City fans forum. The grammatical standards in no way detract from the validity of the points being raised. Why not add something constructive to the debates (where appropriate). That would make a pleasant change.
