I do wonder what Chaplin & his agent think about all this. McNulty's agent forced the move through for him by stating that he wouldn't be happy if the move didn't happen.
Surely Chaplin's agent must be thinking about a move of some kind (ka-ching) and I would be surprised if he's not given Jackett some sort of ultimatum regarding his player - play me or let me go is the usual line.

1) Chaplin seems to have an affinity with the Pompey fans and doesn’t seem the type to threaten that. As an aside McNulty never did either it’s just his agent told Robins that an unsettled player might get sulky

2) at the moment he is being played by Portsmouth in pre-season. And is scoring in most of them. His stock is rising atm why should he do anything different?

Maybe Jackett has told him you can go when I say so, and not before.
Perhaps we should of done the same with Mcnulty, and secured a replacement first, instead we have agents dictating the timing of things, or so it would appear.

Does feel like we've mugged ourself here. Sold cheap with no replacement and seemingly no backup targets.

Trying to keep the faith but each day we get closer to kick off it does get harder. Let's remember as well we are a direct competitor to Pompey and it's in their interest to leave us with no goalscorer come the start of the season. I wouldn't put it past them to string us along all summer.

I have to admit unless he does sign today MR seriously needs to rethink his contingency plan. I have faith he'll bring in a suitable replacement if the Chaplin deal comes to nothing but I'm shocked he's allowed himself and the club to be bullied by Pompey. The only rational motive behind the clubs stubbornness with this deal is that MR must be adamant that Chaplin will sign. Why else would he simply stand by and wait for weeks unless he didn't think otherwise? Would be a huge risk if he let himself be strung along by Pompey and wasn't positive Chaplin would sign on the dotted line. I suppose time will tell though.

KJ has said there will be no departures unless a replacement is brought in. That doesn't necessarily mean if Eisa fails to sign then the Chaplin deal is off. I think KJ realises that Chaplin's head has been turned by us so is resigned to letting him go - but only when a replacement is secured. Hopefully things will start hotting up next week.

I think people are getting a bit fixated on this
Robins has excellent contacts within the game and will be looking at alternatives
We all need to relax

I'm not worried about MR bringing in replacements. It's more the fact it's a little bit embarrassing on our end. KJ has made us look fairly weak IMO as he's strung us along for 2 weeks now. At the end of the day MR should have lined up a replacement sooner, there's no arguing that. It's understandable that the McNulty fiasco happened fairly swiftly but why not keep Reading waiting for at least another week or two? He was under contract and we let his agent engineer the move within a week and at the drop of a hat that was that. Now I don't agree with Pompey's methods as I think they've treated Chaplin appallingly, however at least they've shown they've got some balls about them.

I like how Robins has handled it in the press but how he's handled it on the transfer front hasn't been his finest moment. But if Chaplin signs then fair enough it was worth the wait but I think this should be the first and last time he goes about business like this.

Not fixated just concerned!
We have lost our 28 goal forward and have not lined up a replacement with only 2 weeks before the season starts.

i think the problems with this Chaplin transfer is at the Portsmouth end perhaps their manager. Reading between the lines Chaplin wants out and Jackett doesn’t see him as regular first team material and possibly puts Pompey in a delema, they need the Chaplin cash to bring in Eise or anyone else but if the Eise transfer doesn’t happen they have a player into his last year of contract once the window shuts in a couple of weeks Chaplins value will reduce significantly. I think it puts Robins in good position and he will have other options.

To be fair to Robins we don't actually know how he is conducting his transfer business as he doesn't mouth off in the press like lots of the others do.

How is it embarrassing at our end? It's Jackett who is running to the papers every 5 minutes to try and do his business in public. It's exactly the same as what McNulty's agent was doing with the press in Reading. The Telegraph have then just repeated it at this end and hammered it every 5 minutes. The same as it was McGoldrick a couple of weeks ago.

As far as I'm aware there's been no mention at all from this side?

Exactly.

When Robins is trying to do his business through the paper day in / day out then we should probably start to worry.

I know others have said we are likely to bring in loans. I don't mind having one loan striker. But issue is if they start scoring they can be recalled.

Im sure M R has someone lined up. I just hope the signing is soon.So they can get some pre season,

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but why would Mo Eisa go to Pompey when they only play one up front and they have an established striker already?

Because if they are paying over a million for someone in league one it is likely for them to be first choice.

I don't buy that I'm afraid, unless Pompey are thinking of selling Pitman? Which I doubt.
Eisa should be looking to go to a club where he's first choice and don't believe he would be ahead of Pitman even for over £1M.
