Not sure if anyone have seen what newcastle have done, but theyre looking at redoing their badge.

"Its complexity affects how we show up. Its intricacies and irregularities make consistent, high-quality reproduction impossible – from modern digital platforms, to broadcast environments and merchandise." - from their website

I always have seen the newcastle badge as something very similar to our own, i wonder if the pressures of the modern market/ platforms and merch will come into play with us soon?

Just a cost saving exercise, with technology, these things should be easier than ever to do and get right time after time.

They’ve had many different designs over the years. Ornate crests with seahorses on, obvs a few with various numbers of magpies and one Leeds smiley rip off NUFC logo.

We aren’t going to change our badge. IMO

Biggest change is we’ll just start using the ball and elephant like Arsenal use the cannon.

Just logically speaking, club would need fan approval to do so and that would never happen, and we already updated our badge to the current one in 2008 (I think).

so many clubs have tried it, the stoke new one is horrible

Funnily enough, Stoke fans seem happy with the new badge.

These things are always difficult and we are no stranger to different badges (always liked the 11/12 badge but understand I’m in the minority). However the club aren’t going to change it imo. Think instead there trying to create more secondary icons to be used to complaint the badge like the elephant we keep seeing.

Yeah I saw Newcastle's announcement and had the same feeling... this is coming for us sooner or later - and if we do remain in the Premiership it feels inevitable.

Possibly why the Elephant and COV have been used a lot recently. Simple clean lines. I doubt its woth a view to changing our actual badge, but something to use on branding and marketing.

Yeah, that redesign was essentially just removing the green to make it cheaper to print with one less colour. Came about after the debacle of trying to completely redesign it to a horrendous design, and was seen as an acceptable compromise.

Newcastle can rebrand all they like. They sold the soul of their club to the Saudi Public Investment Fund. They trotted out last season wearing the Saudi national team shirt as their away kit. They clearly don’t give a shit about the heritage of the club, it’s like Debenhams - it still exists in name, but nothing else about it is the same. Maybe they’ll put a beheaded journalist on the new crest.

It’s a nonsense isn’t it. “Its intricacies and irregularities make consistent, high-quality reproduction impossible” doesn’t stand up to the slightest scrutiny nowadays.

We stripped out the green in ours for similar reasons, but the amount of physical printing now is minuscule compared to back then. Digital just needs a template badge. It’s bizarre.

Bit more to it than that. Ours was cleaned up and modernised and technically more colours added with the gradients. From the sounds of their consultation, Newcastle will do the same, just an evolution of the current badge. It's much needed as parts of it look shit.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen them side by side before, it’s obvious the green was removed, but the tidying up of the rest wasn’t as obvious, they did it well after the debacle of trying to change it a few years before

Ours needs a sympathetic tickle IMO. I find elements of it crude and badly drawn. Overall it’s obviously a classic just needs some love. Pelters incoming

The castle looks better on the new one, but the eagle and phoenix look much more detailed on the old one

The phoenix just looks weird on the old one.

Didn't a few very vocal people kick off about the green being taken out in the very early SISU days?

Why not keep the traditional crest for official documents, communication etc. and have a simpler badge for shirts

The away shirt has a 2 colour version.

I love our badge , but for me the clubs earlier badge would suit modern requirments more

ive always quite liked the old badge anyway View attachment 53524
Absolutely agree - that badge is perfect for shirts and other merchandise.
