Considering the outlay, the recruitment is very weird for a club of their size. Older players on large wages. £7.5m on Broadhead, £6.5m on Sheaf etc. with no real sell on value.

For a club whose ambition and budget is premier league, signing a large chunk of players who are known quantities and very unlikely to be able to make the step up is strange. But they also still have Parkinson as gaffer so I really don’t think the lads running the operation are the brightest football minds.

That's their modus operandi; spunk loads on a new squad whenever they need one, because they don't have to think about cash turnover. It's anti-competitive, in my opinion, and very bad for football generally when club(s) can have a budget that way outstrips that of rivals and isn't in any way tied to success on the pitch or a canny turnover of players.

As for how they're doing; all you can say is they seem to have a better clue than Birmingham. At least they try to sign the players that they actually need / suit how they play, even if at massively inflated prices.

I know it is a bit too early to say it, but it looks like there's genuinely potential for about 12 teams to be in contention for one play off spot.

I agree there. Birmingham just seem to be throwing eggs at the wall and hoping a few don't break, Wrexham clearly went after people who know the league and can be trusted for consistency.

Now if every team in the league had £50 million to chuck at wages and transfer fees it's a different story, but outside of the parachute clubs nobody can spend that and Lesta were of course hamstrung financially anyway.
