I know I need to move on but can anyone recall the foul by Adams on Gynn in the box not given in that 87/88 game? Fuck me, as blatant a penalty as you could ever see. Big club bias alive and kicking 38 years ago,
Yes I can remember, right in front of the ref too

Up to 1987 the FA cup semi finals were never shown live
in fact i think 1990 was the first showing live

1987 was a year, where they allowed the game to be shown in full albeit delayed as there was no agreement in place for live semi finals to be shown. Likewise the watford Spurs game which was on the saturday was not shown live

Quite possibly actually
Wasn't it the Steve Walsh game?

My memory is pretty fuzzy because I was a young boy at the time. All I remember was that I wearing my kit (navy blue away strip) in the kitchen watching the game on TV - it was a rare treat. Remembered thinking how rubbish Watford’s crest was too, and Birmingham’s for that matter.

I remember watching games that season but my support back then was more getting the kits and waiting for us to pop up on Gillette Soccer Saturday. Outside of the JSBs, I only regularly went up to games as a STH at the Ricoh.

Wasn't there an away game against crystal palace on? Mcsheffery scored a lovely goal

He and Bothroyd both scored stunning goals in that game.

I went to that game with my Dad, as a guest of his boss, in the Palace director’s box. We were 2-0 up and cruising (Bothroyd screamer, one of them). They got one back and was convinced they were going to equalise, before Sheffers scored a cracking third.

Take homes from the night:

1. Had great fish and chips near Selhurst Park after the game.
2. Convinced McSheffrey was the next Michael Owen
3. My Dad’s boss stormed off after the third, kicking his seat in the process not stopping to say goodbye and never mentioned the game again.

The McShfferey goal is one of my all time favourites. I think it’s the only goal that I’ve ever seen where the ball doesn’t touch the floor. Even when it hits the goalie. If Messi had scored a goal with a first touch like that it would be shown all the time! 11.20 on this video. Bothroyds is superb too.

I prompted ChatGPT and this is what it managed to muster up in addition to the list you provided. I haven’t double checked any of them, so apologies if it’s bunk:
  • January 1997 – Coventry 2 Blackburn Rovers 1 (BBC) – FA Cup 3rd Round, Match of the Day Live
  • May 2001 – Coventry 2 Bradford City 2 (ITV) – Final day of the Premier League season
  • January 2009 – Coventry 2 Kidderminster Harriers 0 (ITV) – FA Cup 3rd Round
  • March 2013 – Coventry 1 Crewe Alexandra 2 (ITV4) – JPT Final
  • March 2020 – Coventry 1 Sunderland 0 (ITV/STV) – League One clash broadcast in Scotland
  • May 2023 – Coventry 1 Middlesbrough 0 (ITV1) – Championship Play-Off Semi Final, 2nd Leg

Most of those if not all are bollocks. Some of the games didn’t even happen. Others the scores are wrong
