Second fiddle to a player who has been injured since last year and is still struggling with injury?Ok, so what are you expectations for this unnamed striker - how many goals do you expect them to get playing 2nd fiddle to Haji? From my POV, it seems that no one wants to be put a number on it because it's either an unrealistic expectation or its roughly the same as what we've got.
It gives us something substantive that we can work with at least. Just to make you aware, Simms hits his xG from last year (he outperformed his xG in 23/24), it fits your criteria perfectly. If he hit that, would you be happy? Here's a number, at least 4 off the bench, 10 overall. Happy?
He hit his XG with 6 goals in 43 games? - how can you not see that this is the problem? If he doesn't score, he offers nothing. He's static, you can't rely on him to relieve pressure or bring others into play.It gives us something substantive that we can work with at least. Rather than chuck the baby out with the bathwater, Simms gets this season to turn his form around and push Haji for the starting berth and if he fails, we move him on.
Who wouldn't be happy with a player of Wright's calibre returning back into the fold? He's our best player and league leading player in his position, he is obviously a lot better than Simms and BTA which is why he cost more than both of them and most of Bassette's fee combined.Second fiddle to a player who has been injured since last year and is still struggling with injury?
So far under Lampard we signed Grimes for 3.5m who is a very good midfielder. We signed defender KKH for 3.5m he also looks very good. We signed Rushworth on loan. A GK who is very good. I wouldn't have guessed any of these players.
Lampard will know our weaknesses. He will know the players available and which ones would be best for the system he uses. He was very happy at the prospect of Wright coming back. Was that because he thought Simms and BTA were good enough?
I'm sure Lampard is doing his best to bring a striker in. You could tell by his last interview. I have faith in him as he knows much more than all of us put together.

Here's a stat that you won't like. 9 fouls won in 43 games. Is that not proof that he's ridiculously easy to play against?
This season looks the weakest in the Championship for promotion for years. Should we risk it all on thinking Wright will suddenly get fit and start scoring or his replacements that had a poor season can suddenly turn it around? It gives us something substantive that we can work with at least. Whilst I do enjoy stats etc and think XG can be useful when judging how a team has performed, using it to judge a striker is pretty worthless. It gives us something substantive that we can work with at least. Question answered. You want us to rely on someone in your own words massively underperformed last season.Who wouldn't be happy with a player of Wright's calibre returning back into the fold? Lampard mentioned about depth and having more of it in certain areas which definitely leads me to think we're actively recruiting for RW/LW and CB and that coincides with what Jimmy87 said. Even the players we're being tenuously linked with are wingers. Even Bertaccini who is a mostly a striker has played a similar amount of games at ST as well as LW.
No, he massively underperformed his xG last season (24/25) and outperformed it in 23/24 - last season was his worst season by quite a distance. He obviously needs to improve this if he is to have a future at this club.
It's quite funny seeing you bring in 'fouls won' after being shown the stats that show that Simms has the underlying data to hit your specific requirements you laid out of 10 goals. If he hits 10 goals next year, I won't care how many fouls he wins.
I'd be happy if he proves me wrong. While you're fixating on goals, I'm talking about his all round game. I used the fouls stat to back up the point about him doing nothing unless he scores. He's 6 foot 4 and can't use his body to win fouls. No, he massively underperformed his xG last season (24/25) and outperformed it in 23/24 - last season was his worst season by quite a distance. Last season, it was 9.98 xG, scored 6 in the league, probably 10.4 or something including the League Cup. 23/24, it was 11.1 (or thereabouts) and he scored 13.This season looks the weakest in the Championship for promotion for years. Should we risk it all on thinking Wright will suddenly get fit and start scoring or his replacements that had a poor season can suddenly turn it around?
BTW how much did Simms underperform on his xG last season as you used it from the season before?

Agree that he put himself about well. His control of the football needs to be better, still. If he works his nuts off when he is on the pitch, I'd have him as our main striker \\9until we have better) I see Guiu from Chelsea is off to Sunderland on loan (would have been nice!)In danger of being called a Simmp I thought he put himself about fairly well last night - it is last chance saloon for him & maybe a full pre-season with Lampard will get something out of him
Title? I don't reply to titles. I reply to posts. Most of the time I either agree with what is said or wonder how good the drugs are that they are on and where I can get them from.A thread for all the numpties that can’t read the title in here…..
Our strikers……
Are they good enough or not? Debate it here instead of the Calum Doyle thread and every other thread. Sims? BTA? Bassette? Wright ?www.skybluestalk.co.uk

The problem is that the same thing is said frequently. I've defended him to the hilt previously and I seem to have been proven wrong. We can only go by what we see. Last season one of his biggest defenders admitted he performed well below what he should have done. I don't believe in miracles. We need better if we're going for promotion. In danger of being called a Simmp I thought he put himself about fairly well last night - it is last chance saloon for him & maybe a full pre-season with Lampard will get something out of him
I know I'm contributing to stuff in the wrong thread, but you've missed Haji Wright who was 7th.This is what we're up against. View attachment 44951View attachment 44952View attachment 44953
So our strikers came 54th and 94th in the goals scored table in the Championship. They got beat by lots of defenders and midfielders.
Explain please. I don't understand this at all.Nothing like a bit of post creep
Who has been injured and struggling since 2024. We're now August 2025 tomorrow and just over a week from the start of the next season. Doesn't this worry you?I know I'm contributing to stuff in the wrong thread, but you've missed Haji Wright who was 7th.
I think it's just he played for us, therefore it's happening. Are we just dreaming about Doyle or is there any facts behind the rumouring
Don’t think there is a single genuine story linking usAre we just dreaming about Doyle or is there any facts behind the rumouring
Closest link in all seriousness was that one of the top championship sides were likely to go for a loan to buy.Are we just dreaming about Doyle or is there any facts behind the rumouring
Apologies it was the post you quoted from chicken tikka I was referring to not your own !Explain please. I don't understand this at all.

Donald Trump thread? Why would I want to be on that and why would someone be making comments about Simms on there? What? So you'd comment in the Donald Trump thread about how shit Simms is because you've not bothered to read the thread title?
