Do you get angry with Shefali when she forecasts rain at the weekend as well? Whipping up thunderstorms, all for clicks probably.

Of course they knew what they were doing in how they reported it. Are you that naive?

"People chose how to respond".

It was known full well how they wanted people to respond. It was obvious to anybody with eyes.

So it's tinfoil hat to point out it's obvious to anybody with eyes how it would be taken?

Yes, it is chaotic now because of how it is being whipped up. Do you still struggle to understand that?

There is no risk of there being no fuel, there is plenty of petrol and diesel but while people are rushing out to fill any container they can then garages will run out until they can get another delivery. It's common sense.

Is it chaotic? I passed 3 petrol stations on the way to work, only Shell on Anstry Rd had queues and it was only a couple of cars.

It depends, yesterday there was gridlock around some of the "main" petrol stations with people blocking junctions and queuing up. This morning the one by Longford Blue Ribbon island had queues blocking the road up.

Go in Costco and it's completely empty.

It is now! I can't move anymore, I feel like I've just been doing some kind of economy run rally, and every fuel station I've gone past has been out of diesel.

That's why there's no queue, there's no ability to fill up!

Now, maybe I'm just unlucky...! Anyway, my local station had better be OK sharp-ish!

No - I pointed out something similar in my first post in this thread.

It’s tinfoil to say “they wanted people to respond” a certain way.

There’s a genuine discussion to be had about the first point, but if you honestly believe the second point, then it isn’t going to go very far.

When they start using words like "crisis" then it's fucking obvious how people will respond.

It was obvious last week when it was on ITV that people would panic.

If you genuinely think the media have no intention of stirring things up then there's no helping you. As you (and Simon Gilbert) both say, the information is presented and it's up to people how they take it.

It's fucking awful where I am, every road with a petrol station backed up for miles. These cunts almost certainly still have 2000 bog rolls in their spare rooms.
Annoyingly I will legit have to join in at one point, I hope nobody thinks I'm one of them.

I took my lad swimming yesterday and had to get some diesel on the way home. It was the 8th petrol station by the time I found one with some.

I don't really buy the "it's all the media" narrative tbh. I think there is a supply issue, misleading comments like "there is plenty of fuel in the UK" disguise that fuel is pretty useless sat in a refinery. The reporting may have led to some panic buying but that was Kwasi Karteng who said "No need to panic buy" which probably shows the credibility a government of liars has with the public.

I'm not sure there is any "may" about it? It did cause the panic buying.

If people were filling up as normal then it wouldn't really be putting so much strain on the garages trying to get fuel in while it's going out quicker than it can refill.

I think they’ve been striking as well. Initially understandably after high covid number outbreaks but not sure more recently.

None of this is reported though.

I think this also. I'm sure there is less than normal (like the bog roll) but if the general public were normal and not fucking morons there would still be plenty for everyone (again like the bog roll.)

It is very weird, literally can't think unless it involves if it matches up with their view of politics. Almost selective blindness.

You could flip that on its head and say there are people on here criticising the media who are quite content to go along with the scaremongering when it's stories like 10 million Turks due to descend on the UK.

For my part the only news I've listened to since last week was 5live and every report clearly repeated what the statement from the petrol company said which was a few stations will have shortages somake sure you've got enough fuel to get to the next one just in case.

People were still accusing them of stirring it up this morning! Some people just love an excuse to get their gammon on!

If its specifically about insulation then maybe......but building a load of new homes full of moribund technologies is fucknig stupid.....these new homes willbe old homes soon enough.....all fitted with gas boilers, no solar & still flushing drinknig water straight down the drain......

I don’t disagree. But from the specifics of the insulate Britain protests new homes aren’t the issue it’s the estimated 20million older homes that have little to no insulation. The government do in fact have a scheme to insulate Britain called insulate Britain (assume the protests are deliberately using the same name) but it’s so badly funded and organised it’s basically achieving nothing. But it’s a boxed tick and that seems to be its only purpose.

But when you have people who know about these things confirming that the fuel cannot be delivered to fuel stations, and there are genuine shortages (to what degree nobody really knows), what were you expecting people to do?

I'm talking purely about one outlet, the only one I've seen/heard and they didn't hype it up.

I bet if you look you'll find instances of people who are now calling out the media on here now saying in the past its bollocks.

Of course they can and do.

Without veering onto brexit, do the media really have the power to do this? They're on about the army getting involved now

The media are terrible alright, but not sure that anyone could have expected rational people to just do nothing when you have industry blokes saying that there are likely to be 'some shortages'. After that it just turns into a frenzy

If you look at a timescale of events it wasn’t actually the media coverage that triggered the panic, it was when government ministers went out on mass with a message of don’t panic. There was literally no panic buying until the government piped up.

Exactly- its not rational to expect the nation to sit and do nothing when some genuine people who know about this stuff are warning there may be some problems ahead. The media aren't the only issue here I'd say
