Yes, the Hughes fee is inflated because of how late in the window it is and also due to Hull’s transfer restrictions. It seems like they might have overcome their cash flow problems otherwise they would have sold him.

So I actually believe them when they say they want IRO £20m for him. Why else would they sell him?

He is valued at £3M on transfermarkt, doesn't mean much I know, but he is worth nowhere near £20M

He is if it stops other teams snooping around when Hull can't buy anyone.
I think we were unlucky that Ajayi got injured and will be out for a while. Hull can't realistically sell Hughes now given their circumstances. I expect he will eventually go for around what we supposedly bid for him

Objectively, he’s not worth £20m. But that’s not the only factor in their valuation. Hull are much more likely to go down if they don’t keep him. What’s that worth to them? They can’t buy a replacement.
I wouldn’t be surprised if something still happens for around £8-10mill.

£10mill in hulls pocket now could allow them to bring in multiple loans or free agents and have the money to pay them. This could ensure their survival more than just having Hughes.
Also it should be in their mind what happens if Hughes gets injured, what if he doesn’t continue on this trajectory. He may only be worth £4-5 mill next year? Think about Sheaf, hindsight would tell us we should have sold him when we had the chance. His current value is nothing like we thought it would be.

Have faith in the recruitment process, it’s doing a good job with the constraints we have.

We aren't going to pay £10m for a defender, it's more likely we will sign some relatively unknown CB from Europe for around £2m

Hull wont sell Hughes while under a fee embargo. The only way they do is for an offer close to the £20 million they are stating

Really can't see us paying above 5m for a defender, and hope we don't. This is what got us in the shit in years past.
I'd say it's more to do with crap owners taking money out of the club or foundations built on sand that got us into trouble. We consistently made money on transfers when in the prem and just after. To my knowledge we've never spent more on a defender than we did on Kitching so not sure it was what got us into trouble. We must have some money too - record season ticket sales, huge shirt sales, money from play-offs money from Gyokeres. Presumably minimum of MVE must be lined up to go before the window closes too. I also think at 10m for a 21 year old, than unless he does his ACL, we would at the very minimum recoup our expenditure.

When we were in the Prem why was the overall debt £86M then as revealed by Richardson in a 5 Live interview?

Because he's a thief, a liar and a crook! But he's not the only one. They were no better than SISU.

We sold Highfield Road, he made money on player transfers. Then he sold to the next lot who sold the Arena to the Council (who then made on the naming rights long before they sold to Wasps) and the Tesco land for close to £60m too.

Tell me who you think we lost millions on? I can only really think of Lee Hughes. We made really decent money on Dublin, Keane, Moldovan, Kirkland, Hartson etc etc

Fekkin disgrace all round.

And he's welcome to come and try to sue me, lets have it out in court and we'll get that confidentiality clause read out and it's ok as I own fek all to sue me for!

Did the club actually make a profit on Keane? According to a rumour I heard (possibly wrong) the £6 million was put up by a couple of the directors, and then when he was sold to Inter Milan they pocketed the £13 million fee.

Richardson wanted to put the club in administration and wipe the debts. He then wanted to trigger a clause for £5 million to buy back Highfield Road.

He was forced out as the Council wanted the stadium and the Board wanted to go along with it.

Half the initial fee to sign him was put up by Inter - They wanted to get a look at him performing in the Prem with a view to signing him.
All courtesy of Geoffrey Robinson’s business contacts in Milan. (Allegedly)
Thank god we signed Craig Bellamy with the proceeds of Keane’s sale tho, eh?

The story I heard at the time was that Lord McAlpine put the money up to buy Keane, but that he lost a fortune at various casinos and needed his money back, hence the sale to Inter.

It's almost like it's all rumours and people were dropping stories to cover up their own crimes or fuck ups.

I assume this is technically not allowed by the club, but can't attend most weekend matches next season so struggling to justify renewing my ST. If I run anyone in similar boat, but can only attend most weekend games, and interested please PM me. Thanks.

Oh I recently heard another rumour as to why Keane had to be sold - This one didn’t involve financial reasons.

It’s nonsense

The club got relegated at a bad time and had embarked upon this plan to move and take advantage of regeneration funding to get a new ground.

The council under Jon Fletcher actively encouraged the development. Every club at that time which got relegated had issues and we had the new ground to consider. It’s worth noting the council had rejected ground extension plans - which is ironic when you look what happened in other urban stadia where expansion was allowed.

Bryan Richardson wanted to put the club into administration and start again. The council and Mike McGinnity wanted to continue with the folly of a new stadium. You only have to look at Lord Taylor’s report on Hillsborough to show what McGinnity and his buddy Millerchip at the FA were. So the council implied he’d get the seating contract and then didn’t.

McGinnity was desperate to curry favour with the council and so literally sold every asset we had. We even had the fiasco of buying one player without a medical as we knew he’d fail it.

The club was fucked by the time we moved to the arena (round the 20th anniversary now) - the debts remained and the main creditor sat on the board

I think Ken Taylor then ran the council and was as disparaging as Fletcher. Unbelievable then than Fletcher took hold of the Trust and tried to destroy the club by weaponising it against the owners and handing back to the snakes that had bent over for the council at every move.

It’s amazing we still exist let alone be where we are and everyone should remember how the council tried to destroy the club and look at every avenue to remove it

What?

What's nonsense?

McAlpine's involvement? If he was involved in the buying and selling of Keane, it isn't covered by your reply.

And Keane was sold before relegation.

Did you reply to the wrong post?

No I didn’t. The individual details of each transfer are irrelevant. The club operated a sale to profit scheme with various individuals and that was pretty public.

I find it very hard to believe given what I’ve said Mcalpine were involved at all. Robinson was and funded many transfers and he was the main creditor

That's correct.
The laws governing third party ownership of players has since been changed to prevent this happening in future.

McAlpine was involved in the "Tattersall" scheme. Whether that included Keane or not is another matter.
