I'm trying this psychological technique I read about recently. Apparently, physically speaking, anxiety and excitement are basically the same. So the trick is to tell yourself that you're not anxious, you're excited.
Now I'm not sure that if you have a tyre blow out on the motorway at 90mph you'll be able to say to yourself, "ooh, this is exciting, I'm going to enjoy this", but maybe in our situation it's a plausible strategy. I'll let you know how it goes.
