Erm let's see, you claimed:

Bidwell is on 45k a week
Bidwell was brought on when we were losing to PNE

Which anyone with half a brain can see is nonsense.

You really have to stop with these ridiculous wage suggestions. We are no paying anyone anywhere close to £55kpw (£2.8m pa)

The part that worries me with Bidwell is that he just doesn't look comfortable enough in possession in the opposition's half. Often looks to cross early, which is not necessarily a bad thing in itself, but we don't really have the strikers or get enough bodies in the box to benefit from that and if that's not on, he picks the safe, easy option too often which takes momentum out of the play.

People have said he needs time to get up to speed but that's not something that a 29 year old is suddenly going to improve with matches, which is the crux of my concerns. Just don't think he's got the technical skills to be an effective wingback.

And I'm baffled as to why you still post on this forum.

You might as well give him time as he's here to stay. No point regurgitating the same mindless nonsense as despite what you seem to think you're not making any intelligent observations.

He's hardly gonna say 'ffs badlans recommended this dud to me' is he.

Bidwell showed two games of improvement and then back to shite, sounds like everyone else was shite too. Sometimes you need a pre season to really get into it. For me I won't be judging him til start of next season.

I have to say apart from the foreign signings bidwell at the moment appears to be the worst signing since robins came back in 2017.

I just don’t understand the signing at all as he doesn’t fit the system we play and we paid a fee and I imagine a very nice salary.

I’ll love to proven wrong here and he turns into a gem but I fail to see anyone have a positive word to say about this signing.

Come on Bidwell show us all we were wrong!!!!!

Yes but my point is you don't sign someone and say 'don't get your hopes up everyone, he's shite.' MR will have praised the signing because on paper and through scouting, he was a good signing. 85% of this forum were delighted when we were linked with him.

He looks shite yes but there are many factors we won't know about. Moving cities, possibly renting away from family, won't know anyone, still to settle in, unfit, could be numerous reasons contributing to why he's been poor so far.

And then extended the contract... For a loooong time.

Let's hope Swansea gave us the keys to the Rolls Royce whilst we were there... Then we'll be laughing!

So we rightly have a thread lauding Robins' achievements over the past five years and this one running in parallel criticising his signings.

We can question signings though ? Walker Waghorn Bidwell as well as numerous foreign signings on silly contracts,we don’t have much money and we can’t be wasting money like we have

What manager with the budget Robins has will get it right every single time? Guardiola and his backroom staff don't even get it right every time and they have one of the biggest budgets in the world at their disposal.

There's bound to be mishaps and errors when a significant percentage of our signings are calculated risks. That's the reality when you have one of the smallest budgets in the league.

The fact more have come off than haven't is nothing short of a miracle to be honest. It's bizarre you're pushing a narrative and suggesting otherwise.

Bidwell hasn't even played 10 games yet. Waghorn has been disappointing overall but has had a few injuries and COVID, was doing fairly well early on this season.

Walker isn't a bad player but for whatever reason Robins no longer fancies him. You never know though, Biamou was out of the picture last season but got back in so who knows.

At the end of the day no signing is guaranteed to be a success.

He's had far far greater success than failure in signings, can't remember the last manager we had that made multiple signings that went on to make 100+ appearances like Hyam, Kelly, Mcfadzean, O'Hare, Dabo (on 93) with Godden and Rose likely to get there too.

The only concern for me is when the “model” (Brentford Model for the sake of argument) isn’t followed.

- Young players we can develop and potentially sell on to reinvest / improve

- avoid over 28’s where their contract will expire past 30 (unless GK) or a savvy midfield General / skipper where nous is more important than stamina or pace.

- If we need experience then choose wisely and on shorter contract or loan (eg M James). Extend if they prove themselves.

- foreign players by all means but make sure the scouting is done well.

It’s fairly straightforward.

Walker, Gyok, Hamer, Sheaf etc fit the model. We paid hefty fees (3m? Combined) but they are (combined) worth more now.

O’Hare, etc are worth fees, possibly cost a decent signing on fee, but follow the model.

Moore is a GK and different rules apply.

Waghorn, Bidwell don’t follow the model and are imo poor signings.

I was given dogs abuse at the start of the season when I said Waghorn was a strange signing when we had just released our only other strikers over 5 foot 10 (Biamou, Baka).

I suggested that we needed height and was given pelters when I suggested some huge 21 year old unit from down the road who Man City, Celtic and SWFC were apparently looking at. As it happens, said 21 year old hasn’t set the world alight.

My belief stays the same:

Stick to the model. No 31 year olds on big deals.

21 year olds locally need monitoring instead.

Make sure we have cover for our only big centre forward.

I’ll continue to ignore the drivel from the whoppers on here.

Questioning the Walker signing is completely odd considering he was one of the most inform strikers in League 1 at the time. I doubt many would question if we were to go pick up Ross Stewart or someone similar. It unfortunately hasn't worked out with Walker for 1 reason or another.

I agree on Waghorn, but at 28 when he didn't cost a fee Bidwell still fits for me. It may not have worked (yet) but to have someone hopefully ready for the level with some valuable needed experience will always carry a certain level of risk on our budget. We've not fished the same pools as Brentford and their model for reinvestment is much more refined than ours with more calculated numbers in the background (hence why Warburton was moved on). I still believe with a full pre season that if he's injury free, Bidwell will be a huge asset next season.

I could see the logic in signing Walker. No complaints there. I can see the thought behind signing Reese Allasani, Bouwe Bosma, Dexter Walters etc. a couple of years back, even that These type of punts sometimes work out, like it did with Sam Mc.

Waghorn and Bidwell are just Beavon and Junior Brown all over again.
