That really isn’t the question. The question is what he is worth to us as opposed to what he’s actually worth. If the likes of Barnet - midtable in L2 at the time, now relegated - were asking £1.5m for Akinde, we’re well within our rights to ask for about £2m because frankly, we have no reason to sell. There’s not even the risk of losing him on a free as we thought.

But that's the market today isn't it? A players actual worth in comparison to a players factual worth is completely distorted. By putting figures of £1.5 million (Akinde) and £2 million (McNulty) on a players head you're effectively saying that said player is not for sale. So yes we're definitely in our rights to ask for £2 million. He's our player we could ask for £20 million for him if it suited MR. No there isn't a pressure, not now it's been revealed he has an extra year in our favour.

It could well be he didn't get many chances or didn't settle in those 16. He didn't score many in his first 16 for us either. He could have also been playing with players who would rather shoot from 45 yards or take everybody on than pass to him

Sounds a little bit like Nazon

Generally speaking, the transfer market in football is a seller’s market, a club generally sells whenever it’s valuation is met. I remember Boothroyd asking for £10m for Westwood in his contract year! There’s a few factors that drives down prices such as financial instability or a player pushing for a move and so on.

McNulty improved as the season went on, his back to goal play and laying it off particularly, the 2nd goal in each of play off semi and final show it. I really hope we keep him as can see him doing well again

This is all bollocks - he is staying here and he will score a shed-load of goals for us with a manager that understands him even when he goes through hard times.
He isn’t for sale and has got another 2 years on his current contract so let’s talk about the weather!

McNulty set to move to Reading according to HITC. Normally they are pretty accurate...

I'd be completely pissed off and massively deflated if this is the case. £1.5m is nothing and doesn't guarantee replacing 28 goals. Has any team at any level ever gone on to have a good season after selling their top scorer?

If he is being sold, the time is now. Better now than in the last week of the transfer window where transfer fees are massively inflated (even more so than they are now) and clubs are less reluctant to part with their star players due to the lack of time they have to replace them.

If we sell him. the fee needs to be spent on replacing him. So pointless selling him.

Is there anyone we could get in that can score a proven 20+ goals a season?

If not, then this would be a ridiculous, unnecessary risk.

You’re right, they are one of the more reliable sources on the net. Devastating if true.

Suppose this is what you get when you revive someone’s faltering career these days. Zero loyalty in football.

How’s this mcnultys fault?
The club can turn the bid down.

I’d have hoped for £2 million up front at the very least!

bollocks.... wouldn't have settled for anything less than 2 to 4 million... suppose on a financial side of it he came for free and we made money but football side its dog shit as he will be hard to replace but if any one can do it its Robins....PUSB

£1.2m according to the word on the street, although 'undisclosed' will be the line.

Disappointing news, he is a quality striker that we will struggle to replace.

A fact of life of the modern football game though

The player and his agent will engineer the move. The club don’t need the money now they need the player - players can always force moves though.

It’s a big problem - let’s hope he has someone lined up. Even with him in the team goals were to be an issue - now it’s a big hole that needs filling very quickly

Don't know why anyone is surprised. Was always going to happen. If you look at my posts relating to McNulty I always said we would keep Bayliss but lose McNulty

I think it's inevitable. You can't really blame McNulty. He's 25 and has earned the opportunity to play in the Championship and probably double his salary.

I'm gutted that he's going but wish him the best of luck.

Let's not forget that he's been the best player in the team that have delivered the best season many of us have witnessed.

It’s true and I always see the players side on this. However, the reverse also is true in that he was never going to be a player who’d attract it without the opportunity last season and a manager who stuck with him through a poor early season

If being voted player of the year means that you leave over the summer following (as seems to be the case), time for some tactical voting when it comes to the vote next year - Beavon to the player of the year methinks

Any of us, in McNulty's shoes, would have done exactly the same. It does mean we need two strikers now, as we already needed one. Time for a couple of good loanees I reckon

Yes I always see the players side but this one if true I’d find a bit annoying really.

This isn’t a case of the club wanting or having to sell

If he goes he can fuck off

It is.

As I understand it, its £1.2m rising to £1.5m if we dont have to have (or feed) Barrett.

Who do we think has been leaking this to the press? McNulty's agent? Reading? CCFC?
