Can't believe we've mugged off a higher league club with Chaplin, and for a fee it seems. Nice work MR / Dave Boddy / Tim...

Now time to tiptoe away very slowly whilst the ink dries and the money is confirmed in our account, before they realise they've been had

It wasn’t evident to most fans, even around November they’d completely written McNulty off.

I had written him off by November - but I was absolutely wrong
if you watch a rerun of the Notts county or Exeter games - he was not just getting the rub of the green there - you could see the quality
I think he is a poor mans Teddy Sheringham - what is not clear is whether that is limited to League 2 or whether he could perform at a higher level
The championship may be a step too far = or it may be a confidence thing - just like when he came here
Would i have him back? Loan deal yes - Permanent - not if it meant spending £1m on him

My main comment on Chaplin is that despite his talent he seemed to be pushed about by bigger defenders - reminded me of Lamires and in some way Maddison but Maddison skills got better and he had learnt to dodge the bullets

Just a thought, but do Barnsley have anyone we might be interested in? Just putting 2&2 together given Robins comments around not selling Chaplin unless a replacement was lined up.

See I disagree, I think Chaplin is more of a finisher than player like McNulty was.

For me Chaplin had intelligence and got in the right areas all the time... unfortunately (I note the irony from my top paragraph) he could not put the ball in the net.

If anything I think this is down to confidence

He scored two disallowed goals in his first few games, both excellent finishes. As his open play drought went on he snatched at chances. I'm sorry to see him go without having seen him at his best (though i think his excellent footwork and finish at Sunderland showed what he's capable of)

Agree with this and we hardly ever played him in his rightful position. Barnsley obviously see great potential in him. I think he will be a very decent player.

Only reason I am happy to see him go is because seemingly he just doesn't fit our system.

Robins is an excellent manager, but his insistence in attempting to shove square pegs into round holes is hugely frustrating. Chaplin is a good player though so I think he'll do well at Barnsley, as long as they learn from our mistakes and play to his strengths of course.

I'm really gutted about this. There's an excellent player in there and I was really hoping to see him at his best in Sky Blue.

No, out of the two players, only Julian Gray has been confirmed so far.

Hope it’s not a loan player we bring in to replace Chaplin, we need our own players.

Someone really trying to move him on. Go to his Wiki page, and record at CCFC - played 20 games, scored 65 goals!

He’s been gone one season and is only 26, he has a few more years left to prove it wasn’t a purple patch.

Plus, I wouldn’t class 8 goals in 17 appearances for Hibs and an international call up as ‘fuck all’.

And for the record I’m not one of those clambering to have him back, but my point remains; it was always obvious he has talent, despite some of the knuckledraggers not seeing it initially.
He’s only scored goals with consistency at league 2 level or equivalent, (ie Scottish football which at best is on a par with league 2). And as for an international call up, ffs it was with Scotland, a team that’s recently been beaten by the mighty Kazakhstan!
Wherever he’s had an opportunity at a higher level he’s struggled. (Ie, Bradford and Reading)
He had 1 season where he looked promising at Sheffield United, but that was 5 years ago, since then he’s only had that purple patch with us to talk about.
With that in mind it’s hardly surprising that Reading want him off their books but are struggling to find a buyer.

I'm a bit gutted really. I totally agree that he didn't hit the expectations that people had of him (basically expecting another Armstrong/McNulty) but thought he gave a good showing in the time he had. Would love to have seen him in a partnership upfront with Biamou, but also know that was never going to be the plan. I think he'll be pretty clinical at a team that plays 2 up front.

Linked to Bristol City, Wigan and Millwall earlier in the window, so highly doubtful he'd drop back into L1. Think Barnsley put a hefty price tag on his head as well.

No I didn't mean to come to us, I mean if he played alongside Chaplin.

Oh right, yeah he'd be a great partner for Chaplin. I think that's another issue we'd have if we kept him as he'd have no one to play beside apart from Biamou and realistically there are question marks over whether he can make the grade this season. In an ideal world we'd end up having to bring in another target man, and change the formation just to accommodate him.

Yes he's left here scored 1 in 15 at Reading nearly all sub appearances and was frozen out, then moved to hibs and scored 8 in 17.

Hardly had the game time to prove anything elsewhere, he is a very good player and helped us get promoted, unsure why you have such a bad attitude towards the lad

8 in 17 is a great strike rate, fatso is probably one of these mugs who thinks the SPL is on a par with League 1

Out of curiosity because I can't judge by your reply, what standard is the SPL in your eyes in comparison to England

I think it's a range? The likes of Celtic, rangers, and maybe hearts and Kilmarnock would be alright in the championship. The rest will be league one or lower.
