Best TV shows or movies you can recommend (6 Viewers)

Ghosts movie is fantastic and seemingly a huge hit in terms of British movies.
Yep. If you like the TV series you'll love this.

I think they got an idea from something that the US series did and I think it works really well. It's arguably the one thing I wished they'd done in the TV series but didn't.

It'll probably end up being on TV next Christmas or something.

One to avoid at all costs : Unchosen ( Netflix )

Despite a cast that includes Christopher Eccleston and Siobhan Finneran, it`s poorly written, it`s dull and it`s worse than some of the Harlan Coben stuff ! ( it reminded me very much of the pap that Channel 5 churns out )

Christopher Eccleston, heads up an extreme Christian cult, tucked away in the English countryside somewhere, when a " handsome stranger " saves one of the kids in the cult from drowning, he`s taken in by the cult and surprise surprise he turns out to be a wrongun.

It`s truly dreadful, don`t be tempted.

New series/Halloween special of Last One Laughing on Amazon. I liked the first series, but I think the premise is getting a bit tired now and it's not as funny.

Reece Shearsmith has been good in it though.
HIs Joker was fantastic,

Too late I watched it

Film 4 last night, so it`ll be on again.

All of Us Strangers.

Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal`s performances alone make it worth watching and it`s easy to see why the reviews are so good.

Scott plays a lonely gay man, who is still struggling to come to terms with the death of his parents when he was a boy, who lives in a newly completed tower block in London, the only other tenant in the building being Paul Mescal, another lonely gay man.

Slowly they start a relationship and eventually fall in love.

Scott is a screenwriter and as part of the research for his writing, he travels back to his childhood home in suburban Sussex, where it appears that both of his dead parents are living happily, but frozen in time from when they died ( same clothes, same music, same television programmes etc ) His parents are played with sensitivity by Jamie Bell and Claire Foy.

The grieving Scott starts spending more and more time with his dead parents, as through his grief he starts to lose his grip on reality, which in turn affects his relationship with Mescal, who`s also struggling with his own demons.

It`s achingly slow, as Scott and Mescals relationship starts to develop and Scott starts to unravel, but Scott and Mescal are spellbinding in their roles.

You`re never really sure whether what you`re seeing is real, whether Scott is dead or whether Scott has gone mad and everything you`re seeing is in his head.

It`s beautifully written and isn`t really a " ghost story ", more about how we process crippling grief and loneliness.

It won`t be a film for everyone, as it`s very slow, plus there`s some quite graphic man on man sex scenes, but if you want to watch two actors at the top of their game, this is a film for you.

Outstanding and well worthy of the near perfect reviews and awards it won.

All Of Us Strangers is one of those remarkable little movies that comes around every once in a while that's outstanding beginning to end and top to bottom with little or nothing that could be done to improve it. Was crying absolute buckets at the scene in the diner

Same here and I was crying buckets at the end too.

It’s a film that stays with you long after it’s finished, especially the ending, which made you feel like you’d been punched in the stomach.

If there’s such a thing as a “ beautiful “ film, then this is one of them.

New series of Scrubs seems to have carried on with the same quality as the last. Really enjoying it so far

The Trap is a pretty good German series on Netflix. The acting is very good, especially from the main character. Oddly her publisher (she’s an author) is played by the former chancellor Willy Brandts son

Nothing screams AVOID louder than a Harlan Coben / James Nesbitt collaboration

I kept seeing an ad for Bradley Walsh hosting a million pound gameshow with an unspecified twist and didn't think anything of it, but people are convinced it's going to be some kind of Halloween hoax so now I'm going to tune in on Sunday night and probably find it is just a crap gameshow, the twist is he's not shoehorned his gormless son into it.

This is one that a lot will have missed, but I thought was really good.

Pierre - Channel 4.

The always good, David Harewood, plays a police station duty solicitor, who stumbles into a case of long standing police corruption following the murder of a young black lad he was representing.

It`s kind of a legal drama, crossed with a police series.

Harewood is fantastic as the overworked, but always cheerful Pierre ( no idea why they picked that name ! ), and the rest of the cast is really good too.

I really enjoyed it and it`s set up for another series.

Viewing it now, about 1/2 way through and it looks quite decent.

Could’ve done with a couple more episodes over the original 6, to allow a bit more character and plot development.

Six episodes seems to be the norm now though for most regular telly dramas.

Few theories online that it’s a hoax , I’ll give it a watch anyway . Hope it’s not Halloween based though . Inside number 9s done it and they done a spoof quiz episode .

Nocturne apple TV highly recommended

Really hyped to watch this. AppleTV rarely lets me down and Stephen Graham is probably my favourite actor

The reviews have been off the scale good.

Apple seem to have gone for the " quality over quantity " approach, as opposed ti Netflix`s " quantity over quality " !

It was a toss-up between this thread and ‘The Not So Obvious Hot Babes’ thread of yesterday year….🙂

It’s history anyway….

I reckon it’s some derren brown hoax either that or the contenstent who lost her job to Ai is going Into the studio with a sawn off shotgun

Ended up being a big anti-gambling thing which I thought was great.
Yeah, it was pretty fucking good. Thought it was really well produced and effective. The use of the gambling ad with Richards and Keane using the same language Walsh used during the show made my stomach drop

Yes some of the terminology and tricks used to get people to continue to gamble was eye opening . Be interesting to see if they ever do an analysis of radio phone ins like cash call or make me a winner . Friend from work enters them every day and has done for a few years but has never had a call back

We watched Crystal Lake which is an origin story for the Friday the 13th franchise. Nothing spectacular but still quite fun to watch.
Old skool gore / even got the wife watching it as it’s set in the 70s / love the cop car with its V8 motor - what’s good is you don’t know where the story lines going next !

Yeah, watched the whole thing and enjoyed it. And this is coming from someone who has never seen any of the Friday 13th movies.
