Watched mini series "The Hack" on ITVx the other day. Big all star cast led by David Tennant, Robert Carlyle and Toby Jones, but there are many other quite well known actors in it even though I would struggle to name most of them.

Generally I do not much like what Tennant or the writer Jack Thorne do if they have a woke vehicle but apart from a few token roles for black and disabled actors this was not so badly baked.

It is about the phone hacking scandal that resulted in the News of the World being shut down. The interesting angle is that the episodes alternated between centering on the investigative journalist Nick Davies (played by David Tennant) and Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook (played by Robert Carlyle). In the Tennant episodes there are some surreal scenes and much addressing the 4th wall. The Carlyle episodes don't use these techniques.

All in all I thought it was pretty good.

Monster : The Ed Gein Story ( Netflix )

This a strange one, as Charlie Hunnam, who plays Ed Gein, is horribly miscast as the young Ed Gein, but plays the part of the elderly Ed Gein after he`s been caught very well ( imo )

The sets and cinematography are really good, but it could`ve done with being a couple of episodes shorter, as it only gets interesting after he gets caught.

Maybe old hat but just watched Pink Floyd at Pompeii the new cut - full volume surround sound bottle of wine between two - just epic - the wall shape in our living room puts the sound everywhere - feeling well chilled - god I love that music

Just finished the first series of - Godfather of Harlem. ( 4 series )

Fantastic viewing and I can`t believe I`ve only just got around to watching it.

Interweaves the politics, the back stabbing of the black and Italian crime families in New York, to a back drop of the Kennedy assassination and the rise of The Nation of Islam / Malcolm X.

Has a real feeling of the Wire about it and an excellent cast, led by Forest Whittaker as Bumpy Johnson.

Highly recommended.

Anyone been watching Task? Made by the same guy who wrote Mare of Easttown, another Pennsylvania police drama - not quite in the same league but still really good.
Yep. Really like it and have just got my missus into it too.

I love that it covers all perspectives and that even bad guys can have some good in them and a family to care for.

The lines are blurred, so there's noone who's truly good, or who's truly bad.

Some fab acting too.

Got bored after the first couple. Have forgotten to watch any more.

Went to see Good Boy last night, a horror film from the perspective of a dog.
It's been getting rave reviews and the dog is brilliant in it, but I thought the film itself was a bit average.
average film but i was amazed how the dog performed which seems crazy to say

Just started watching Billy the Kid on Prime. 3 series of it. Im 4 episodes into series 1. Anyone that likes their westerns its worth a go.
Won't beat Tombstone or Young Guns as best Western for me but it'll take a lot to knock either of them two off of 1st amd 2nd spot!

Reviews have been very mixed ?
Yeah I can only out that down to review bombing.

People have a problem Jared Leto . Think he had a much younger gf or something

It seems the thing now though on the internet to shit on anything that comes out. Especially franchises

It's clearly out slot of people off from watching it which is a shame. Although less as. Less people go cinema now anyway.

That's being charitable. Kermode said something like it was the worst film of the year, but would be number one next week and that was one of the better reviews!

Deadline reporting its on course to lose Disney over $130m

tbh its not really a strong franchise. The Deadline article points out the original wasn't a disaster but hardly a raging success, and only gained cult status years later. The revival did OK but again not spectacular and there's been a 15 year gap since the last movie

The original Tron had a cult soundtrack too.

Even the original ( which I love ) was a love / hate film, as I know loads of people who love sc-fi, but don`t like Tron, but universally love the likes of Blade Runner and the Dune reboots.

The biggest criticism seems to be it`s too " Nightmare on Elm Street "

I enjoyed the first one too, but I`ll be streaming the second one, over going to the cinema.
To be fair I love Freddy, but was not that enthused with the first BP so probably pass on this one also.

The Perfect Neighbor. Award winning documentary on Netflix.

Pretty much the whole film is police body cam footage.
The iris affair, bit weird. Only watched the first couple so far.
Yeah, struggling a bit with it, but think it probably just needs time and sticking with.
