Wasn't arsed about watching it, but thought it was actually pretty good. Some of the deaths were actually funny as well.

Started watching Ironheart. Meh. I’m not a massive fan of the comics or the characters cameos so far, but had hoped with the recent reset Marvel TV might have got a bit better. Clearly not. I will of course watch it all anyway because my relationship with Marvel is seemingly the same as my one with CCFC.

I watched the last one and thought it was ‘alright’ and was expecting better given the hype.
I had really enjoyed the film ‘Battle Royale’ which I think SG takes from.

Not film or TV but just got on the train home after seeing My Neighbour Totoro at the theatre.
Absolutely stunning. Would recommend for anyone but if you’ve got kids and want to hook them on theatre take them to this. Only problem being they will probably never see anything this good again.

About a Palestinian American guy and his family living in Houston Texas waiting for their asylum process to be completed. It’s a comedy, but not constant laugh out loud - definitely has an underlying serious tone about it. Very much enjoyed though.
Sounds like it’s a hard watch; it isn’t, doesn’t go too deep or anything. Just kind of fun.

28 Years Later.
What a disappointment.
I appreciate that this is a completely different film to first two and they`re trying to bring it to a whole new audience, but some of it was just woeful, trying to be too " surreal and clever ".
Jody Comer and Raiph Fiennes were just wasted - turning him into a " nice " tango tanned Colonel Kurtz, I mean WTF
The plot made no sense - the infected starved to death after five months, yet here we have super alpha infected infected running around and fat slow ones crawling around eating worms
The island community added nothing at all to the film, even though it was a very good idea. I`d have been happy of everyone of them had died.
There were a couple of good bits - the causeway chase scene and the petrol scene in particular ( amazing camera work ). Some of the general camera work was excellent too, especially the aerial shots.
One thing I did love and thought it was just so bonkers and leftfield, was Jack O`Connell and his gang of velour tracksuit clad ninjas !!!
I didn`t go in expecting the mad frenetic intensity of the first two, but this was just such a let down.

Stalls O23, excellent view. It's not a huge theatre tbh so you'll get a good view from anywhere. Might be worth just trying for tickets on the day. It's been on a while now so I don't think many performances are total sell outs. I went Saturday afternoon and it was full but not sold out.

Watched M3GAN 2.0. I enjoyed it but they’ve really leaned into the camp comedy rather than horror stuff. Was pretty funny in places and looked like everyone involved had a blast. The young dancer who plays MEGAN is incredibly talented, some of the movements are just spot on.

Yes planning to go and watch that this week. Glad its got a decent review, the trailer made it look really camp compared to the first which was actually quite scary.

I think I'll make time for it. Need to go and watch the F1 movie too, unless it gets horrible reviews.
Next couple weeks not much is out particularly interesting, Jurassic World and Superman which looks terrible

Jack O'Connell wasn't far off his character in sinners, should have just done a crossover.
Surely they were inspired by a certain sex offender from the BBC?

Yeah, just watched the trailer. Not at all convinced it's going to be any good.
Laughed a couple of times, but that was it.

It`s 100% Jimmy Saville, Jack O`Connell`s character in the film is called Jimmy Crystal and his followers are called " the flying Jimmies " - seriously !
He`s the young lad, who`s dad is the priest at the very beginning, who willingly gets chomped by the infected in the church, as he thinks it`s " End of Days ".
So from the little you see and hear of his dad, you are led to assume that the young Jimmy Crystal hasn`t exactly had a conventional upbringing - hence him leading a velour clad cult of ninja Jimmies !

Airplane and Police Squad etc are ridiculously good at playing it straight. Airplane especially. I’m chuckling to myself thinking about it now…
“This man needs to get to a hospital”!

Tropic of Thunder is another that you laugh so much at, that it actually starts to hurt

It's a weird one.
I saw Airplane at the cinema and everyone in the audience were splitting their sides, myself included. I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen.
Fast forward to just a few months ago, one of my stepdaughters said she wanted to watch it, because she had heard people talk of it as one of the best comedies ever made
So, we sat down to watch it, my missus, myself and her two stepdaughters...
And I think I saw them laughing probably 3 times in the whole movie.
They just didn't find it funny and even though I still liked it. I thought it had dated very badly.
Definitely of its time.

Yeah, the context/time within which we watch comedy definitely changes it, I’d say.
I think Airplane has a lot to give though…I’m now thinking about the captain asking the boy if he watches gladiator movies…and who would recognise Kareem Abdul Jabaar!
It’s a really, really silly film. Maybe how straight it’s played misses the mark for some? It’s a piss take of an already dated style of disaster movie right?

I remember actually crying the first time I saw the co-pilot in Airplane.
Especially the scene when he flies the plane away at the end.
Don't think it would be as funny with a rewatch though, and not convinced they'll be able to replicate that type of comedy now with this remake

Watched Airport 1975 the other day, it was on Legend or something, I'd seen it as a kid in the cinema so watched for nostalga. Quite a few moments when I laughed thinking of the Airplane scenes, like the stewardess playing the guitar or Captain Kramer being a micky take of Heston. I think it holds up pretty well as a slapstick kind of comedy and it led to Police Squad being made which I loved, but you're right how people and times change, we tend these days to appreciate more sophisticated comedies for their word play.
