As Glastonbury gets underway today it got me thinking about the concerts I've been to and the acts I've seen. I've got it down to three as for the best live acts and they were.1.ACDC at the N.E.C.2.The Stones at Wembley.3.Big Country at the Humming Bird club in Brum. The worst being a drunk/hungover Ozzy Osbourne at Leicester University, and Lou Reed at Warwick University who even though was a music legend was boring.

Hmm tough one - probably Metallica on the Master of Puppets Tour at the Birmingham Odeon supported by Anthrax, it just a week or so before Cliff Burton was tragically killed.

Oohh...far too many to choose from...some great nights over the last 25 years seeing the likes of Blur, Jesus & Mary Chain, Pixies, The La's, Nirvana, Primal Scream, Portishead, Public Enemy, Inspiral Carpets, Oasis, The Specials, The Who.....could go on & on...

but for a pure rock & roll story, I saw the Stone Roses back in the 1990s at a secret gig....I was picked up by some mates who spotted me at the side of the road as I had just hitch-hiked from Liverpool to Devon....They had car full of cider & pills...I took more than my fill, went to the gig...got in for nothing...had an absolute riot...then set off to a rave & fell out of a moving car on the way home....

As a teenager I saw Marc Bolan at the Lanchester College which is now Coventry University and didn't think much of his music that night. But he went on to become a massive star with his band T.REX but never really rated him myself.

At three of those with you Otis.

Clash, undertones and buzzcocks.

For me , no one comes close to the clash.

Very impressesed with Kaiser Cheifs at V festival in Melbourne.

Spoke to Joe Strummer and Topper afterwards upstairs. Long time ago.

I saw them at hard rock 2011 supporting killers and James and they were very good live :)

Been to a few but most memorable for me was Pink Floyd - Knebworth - June 1990. Also appearing on stage throughout the day were: Genesis, Led Zepplin (well, Page & Plant!), McCartney, Quo, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits and Elton John and many more. Best part of the whole thing was, I had a back-stage pass and a VIP car park ticket! (All gained by a golden gift of the gab!)

Impressed by the bands you've seen and locations.

It turns out cheaper sometimes to fly with Ryan or easyjet to eastern Europe and stay a few days than go to the O2 in London.. When we went to Prague the muse ticket cost30 pound and the flight was 45 return, but the tickets for London O2 was 80ish if I remember, so we thought fuck it, lets go to Prague.
Its crazy how overpriced shit is in the UK sometimes

UFO at Brum Odeon - lights failed after about 3 songs. They played on with just the two spotlights. A measure of their entertainment value.
Kings of Leon in Bournemouth second album tour. They just rattled the tracks out no needing about or massive dialogue.
Opposite end of the scale...Green Day pre-American Idiot at Wembley arena...although very choreographed.
Led Zepplin at Knebworth - just raw rock n roll!
Motörhead - Overkill tour...just seemed manic & off-the-cuff at the time.
Meatloaf/Ozzy/Yes/Genesis all good value in their own way
Foo-fighters Wembley & Earls Court...just catching rock!
Too of my pile? Status Quo Brussels (500 or so British Quo fans packed at the front which in those days was quite a fete)/NEC/Donnington/Wembley back in their hey-day. Just superbly entertaining & always engaged the audience brilliantly - no two shows the same & THEY looked like they were genuinely enjoying themselves.

Reading through all these it shows we may follow a declining football club but we do have some great Rock fans !

Agreed BRR, but unfortunatley, on the same bill at the Knebworth gig I went to, was Cliff bloody Richard! :( Ah well, it was a freebie after all!

Journey - Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

Guns N Roses, supported by The Cult - MK Bowl.

Journey, supported by Foreigner and Thunder - NEC.

Rod Stewart - various, but his gig in Liverpool last year was something else.

Bryan Adams - various, including The Ricoh, but mainly NEC.

Bon Jovi - Ricoh Arena.

I saw Keith Urban supporting Bryan Adams at the NEC many years ago and he went down a storm.

Leo Sayer - The Robin2 in Bilston. Tremendous show.

I'm going to see Steve Harley at the Symphony Hall this coming Sunday. Looking forward to that.

Best live gigs were (and with roughly even scores) George Melly with John Chiltons Feetwarmers & (I had to check the name) The Grimms which was the members of the scaffold plus Viv Stanshall & Neil Innes.

Both at Surrey University in 1975 or 1976 (if memory serves).

But I've also seen The Jam, Queen, Tom Robinson, Quo, Stones, Squeeze, RHCP, Kinks all pretty entertaining.. I used to go to gigs when I was young, not much recently except RHCP at the Ricoh.. & even that was a few years ago now.

Now that is a top concert.

Reminds me of Reading in the late 70's early 80's to many bands to remember.

I would have really like to seen Radiohead live. Will go when they tour again. Seen Spiritualized a few years ago, very decent, Oasis I seen before they split up ans was a bit underwhelmed to be honest.

Anyway...

Bruce Springsteen @ The Ricoh. Went on for 3 hrs 25 mins. Was awesome.
Queens Of The Stone Age @ B'ham Academy
At The Drive In @ Reading Fest
Green Day @ Reading Fest
The Hives @ Reading Fest
Pulp @ Leeds Fest
Deftones @ Leeds Fest
The Cribs - Seem em about four or five times. Once when Johnny Marr was in the band, top live band.
Nine Inch Nails - NEC - This was only last month. Amazing.
