By all reports we wanted him on a perm I think the player had issues with coming here for one reason or another.

Moody one for me this not sure if he’s fully committed to even coming here.

Do you ever stop sprouting bollocks? You have no idea what happened with this deal other than believing some shit on twitter from people who have as much clue as what is going on at the club as you do

Glad to get it over the line and get in some much needed cover for defensive midfield.

No point spectaculating on why it’s taken so long, it could be a whole host of reasons.

There is no evidence for this, his position and his agents job is to get the best deal they can. They don’t owe the club anything

If true, I think it's a shrewd move bringing Sheaf in on a loan with an option to buy. It's been well documented that the EFL have implemented a salary cap for all their League One and Two, with League One in particular being restricted to a fixed £2.5m spend on bonuses, wages, agent fees and other moneys paid to players. Focusing on League One, this is in place of the SCMP regulations that governed (or rather attempted to govern) financial sustainability and longevity of all members within the league. Given that our wage bill is likely to be considerably higher than last year's, I presume we are now subsequently exceeding this cap quite considerably - and in the event of CCFC dropping back down into League One (hopefully not), it's not improbable to suggest that we would still likely be far above the £2.5m threshold.

So, could it be that Robins and the backroom staff are simply thinking ahead, just in case we do in fact find ourselves in a relegation spot come the end of the season. I can't imagine that Sheaf is on small wages so it makes sense to structure the deal as a loan, with an option to buy just in case affordability becomes difficult in the event we are relegated - especially if we cannot move him on for whatever reason. After all, every transfer comes with its risks. Sheaf could rupture his ACL in true CCFC fashion or his form might plummet as we saw from signings such as Ogogo. Then we're inevitably stuck with his wages for the foreseeable. Hence why I believe this to be a wise move from the club.

Personally I cannot see this particular deal being made to avoid the current P&S (profit and sustainability rules) implemented in the Championship. To my knowledge the current rules state that each club is not permitted to lose over £13m per season over four years - (it used to be three but it has recently changed to four). It's highly doubtful that even in the current situation we're losing that much and regardless,
clubs will now be reporting on a four-year period that covers 2017/18-2020/21 instead of the three years that cover 2017/18-2019/20. The club's accounts have shown that we're definitely not losing that much, so for that particular scenario we're in the clear.

Apologies for the 'essay', just my little speculative take on it!

The league one salary cap won’t affect us for a few years. If we go down each player that’s higher than the league average is set at the league average, rather than their actual salary. Think it’s 2500 ATM.

Just imagine the transfer fees teams will be offering us for players like Dabo, Rose, Ohare and other young players if we have a good season

It’s gone from a perm fees agreed apparently to a loan maybe he wants to prove to Arsenal he’s good enough for them a strong season with us his contract is extended and he goes back there,no idea how the “option to buy” works with this one.

It surely just means we can buy him if we want to. Sounds like a good deal to me...‘try before you buy’.

Good move, I'm glad the club didn't pay attention to all the Twitter replies demanding they move on when he wasn't signed within half an hour of the rumour first coming up

I’m pretty sure if the player wasn’t 100% committed Robins would have binned him off.

I’m going to put my trust in Robins over Twitter

Slight observation... The Arsenal website report it simply as a loan. No mention of any option.

I can't remember looking forward to the new season quite so much... We've been strong in the transfer market and improved through the pre season friendlies.

No it hasn't you have no idea what has and hasn't been agreed other than some hacks on twitter

This deal is the best one for both parties, if he performs well and we stay up then we sign him and if he doesn't or we go down we don't have his wages hanging over us, it's literally win win for everyone

Was Stewart Robson the last midfielder we signed from Arsenal ? If Sheaf is half the player he was we've got a player.

I’d be pretty happy with him if he proves that he’s that good Arsenal want him back. We can then buy him and sell him at a 200% markup

Sky are reporting it as a season long loan, with the option for Coventry to make it permanent at the end of the season
