A huge disgrace and affront to the man. After his achievements for his country in helping to secure the games, lending his name and celebrity to everything in aiding that bid and subsequent promotion (done for free and willingly) how can anyone not put him in the starting 11 in what is afterall merely a side show event and not taken that seriously?
Once again the FA have overseen another complete cock-up. Having Beckham there would ensure worlwide attention to the tornement in particular from the United States, proably the largest audience viewing and so here we see sponsorship money and support being lost by inepitude and frankly how the Olympic organsiers (Coe and all) plus the FA could allow that to happen is beyond me.
It's a commercial event and you need all the commercial promoting hype at your disposal....beckham no matter what you think personally is exactly that. Yes it helps his own coffers too but that's hardly the point.
This decision was far above Stuart Pearce's pay grade and that should have been seen and sorted before this embarassment.
I doubt anyone (bar Pearce) in the country could care if we won the tournament or not (we won't btw). Therefore for the nostalgia, for the hype, as a thank you for efforts, for the bums on seats and for the tournament as a whole he should have been included.
If it were purely on current ability he would be nowhere near the squad, but then on ability alone I imagine the effort to make it not just a virtuaally all England squad have meant sacrafices. As for Richards, if Pearce belives he is one of the top 3 available overage players in the country then his judgement is severely impaired.
Its a smack in the face for Becks and he deserved better imo.
Nobody is suggesting it does, but since he is a role model, who is from the area and put a great amount of time and effort in securing the games for an event in which we won't participate in again as a one off special invitation then he deserved a place. This is about a bit more than just football ... imo of course which hopefully I'm allowed without it being interpreted any other way to fit an argument
You honestly believe that no-one cares whether we win it or not?I doubt anyone (bar Pearce) in the country could care if we won the tournament or not (we won't btw). As John Barnes (I think) said if you're basing it on the above then Seb Coe should be running the 800 metres.
If you put Stuart Pearce in charge then you have to expect him to take it serious and want to win. Fair play to him if he thinks Beckham doesn't fit into his side and he needs other players in his squad then that is up to him. Just because you perceive it not to be taken seriously doesn't mean that him and his squad agree.
seb coe hasnt competed for years Becks is still a great footballer there is no comparison whatsoever, we aint gonna win it and there wont be a team GB footy team ever again so to leave him out it just ludicrous
We would not have a olympics if it wasn't for Beckham shocking way to treat one of our greatest players.

i personally couldnt give a shit if we won it or not in my opinion this should be about rewarding those who have had great careers ie beckham, giggs and maybe scholesy
You're honestly being serious as well aren't you?
You think a Great Britain Olympic side is the best vehicle to honour careers of footballers still plying their trade for their respective teams?
Probably the stupidest post I have ever read on here.
not so sure about that mate most of your posts iv read have been pretty stupid
:jerkit:
Ahh bless.
Now back to wanking off Beckham you illiterate buffoon.
iliterate? i think you are suffering from Beckham envy mate, its quite common amongst fat middle aged men who could never kick a football
Think you may be confusing him with AT![]()

For fucks sake at least spell illiterate right you pleb.
Not at all, I loved Beckham in his heyday, great player and a great England Captain who loved playing for his country.
However, I don't think he should be "rewarded" a place in the olympics. He should be there on merit. Very much like you and the special olympics.
I ain't middle aged and I kick a football every week. However, I will give you fat. Not fat enough however that I wouldn't use your head as a football though soppy bollocks.
