He’s a loss, as without Bright, he’s our most creative player. Even with his fairly indifferent season last year, he’s incredibly talented and has the ability to change games. That’s rare in our league.

It also means we definitely don’t have anyone who can naturally fit the 10 role now, so I’d assume it’s 4-3-3 this season.

However, we are a L1 club and everyone has their price. The timing is poor, but based on Shipley’s start in the last game, I assume MR knew it was coming and therefore has a plan to directly replace or use the money elsewhere.

It also gives a chance to a youth team player to replicate Bayliss and step up seemingly out of nowhere. We have a strong youth set up, so it’s not out of the question.

He’s a loss, but if we can turn it into a positive and use the money wisely, then the blow will certainly be softened.

Would probably be a better move for him than some of the PL clubs rumoured for him because he'll play more. I think Leeds might be a better fit if their interest is accurate.

going the same route as Madison if true.
He needs first team football that's for sure, no good dropping in to the U23s after playing competitive football for the last 2 seasons.

I put on another thread, this is exactly what I thought would happen. This stinks of us touting him out to anyone and everyone. Reporting top Premier League clubs are interested in him with a £3m buyout clause... In the end he will go to a Championship club for about £1m in a heavily structured deal. We will probably see about £400k up front and Robins won't see a penny.

Yep, I think that's what is happening here. I'd be surprised if Preston had £3m to spend though they did post a profit y/e 30/6/18 on the basis of £9m+ transfer income! Otherwise though they're running at a significant loss.

Preston are issuing new shares to their owner every month so he can finance overspending, completely unsustainable.

Please dont shoot the messenger as I myself find it very difficult to believe... but, just passing on what I've heard, you can make of it what you want.
But I've read a player + cash deal from Sheff Utd. Leon Clarke + Cash in exchange for Bayliss.
Like I said, bit far fetched and cant see us affording his wages, but if true, could be a very good deal for us.

Yeah, let's sell our best asset for a veteran striker, woohooo!

Money as well. Which could mean Bright. We could do worse than losing Bayliss and Chaplin and replace them with Clarke and Bright.

We have a day. The season begins tomorrow, we cannot afford to weaken our own squad. As I said before, we scored once from open play and won once in the first 6 games last season. It was basically relegation form. We can't afford to do.

Not the same team though, is it?

It feels a bit like that we’re sacrificing the first month of the season though. As we all know, these early games can be crucial come the end of the season as to who finishes in the play offs. We can’t afford to have the start we had last year where we were already miles behind the chasing pack. It’s important that we have a good start so that the negativity doesn’t mount about the St Andrews situation; if we leave it until the 31st August that could possibly already be 18 points lost on the promotion pack. Obviously we’re not going to lose all of the 6 games in August, but without a striker for this period we could find ourselves dropping silly points against the teams we should beat (Southend, Bolton, Bristol Rovers etc).

Not sure we're sacrificing anything. If Sheffield United come in for Bayliss then the timing sucks but that's not the club's fault. Only last week it was stated we'd not had any concrete offers. Same with Chaplin. We've doubled our money on a player who hardly set the league alight. Can't see what the panic is.

That’s 6 games into the season. We’ve seemingly undone all the good work earlier in the window.

Let's sell somebody who's had one half decent season and one indifferent season and replace him with a player who has, can and will score 20+ goals in this league and has, can and will get promotion from it! I say yeah, why fucking not?!?!
Why turn down the 20 goal striker we need and probably our best chance at autos in favour of a player that MIGHT make the big time one day!

It’s more frustration that we’re seemingly undoing the good work from earlier in the window and making ourselves worse right before KO.

Don’t think we are but fingers crossed we are covered in midfield, I think Bayliss will tread a similar path as Maddison but not with us unfortunately, if his sale allows us to get in a decent goalscorer I can live with that. We’ve got three good kids just joined the squad from our academy so the conveyor belt is there

Well, I dont agree with 'we're '. Walker chose Lincoln, not us. Preston, Sheff Utd have come in for Bayliss now. Both situations out of our control.

But clearly no other team buys or sells anyone once the first ball of the season has been kicked - its only us.

We want Louis Moult on loan as part of the deal is the latest im hearing, wages could be a stumbling block.

£100 to a charity when if Leon Clarke signs and he doesn't score 20 goals and / or we don't achieve promotion?

We bought Chaplin from Pompy last season after the season had kicked off, a sale triggered by them buying a player from another club. This is just one example, if I put thought to it, there will be many, many, many more. Of that, I'm certain.

Let’s assume that’s a deal that could be done, and the proceeds of the sale ensured the permanent signing of Bright (I know, I know), would people be happy with this?

What you're missing there is Chaplin, we decided to let him go before a replacement was through the door, other teams haven't seemed to do this. Our top target has then gone off elsewhere and we're left with nothing. Bayliss is a different situation but I'd hope we've got targets to move on immediately if our valuation is met.

Doncaster just sold Marquis, they didn't bring in a replacement first.
