Just a question if Bayliss is being sold to fund the shortfall because of playing at St Andrews how does that leave surplus funds to buy players?

We don't know that is definitely the case to be fair. I'd be disappointed if he didn't get some of the money.

Some shortfall, some for players?

£1mil for Chaplin, £2mil for Bayliss - £2mil for shortfall, £1mil for players (including the money already spent on Allen?)

And still hoping for Wilson/Maddison to actually move big, one day, else we rinse and repeat.

If we sold Bayliss and signed Bright I'd be happy. Feel this leaves us short as things stand if we're going to play 3 in the middle.

Also, I trust our scouts. No signing will be a panic signing. They’ll be on the list, however far down the list that is. But they’ll have been thoroughly scouted.

Bosma, Brown, Allisani, Ogogo, Baka!

To be fair, I think a lot of those were identified under the previous head of recruitment who is now at Bristol Rovers.

Not sure it's fair to include Bosma or Allisani either, they're just cheap punts with little risk.

We've sold two players who probably wouldn't have started tomorrow. I rate both highly, so it is disappointing.

But, what do people expect? Revenues will be down by around £3 million this season because of a position forced on the football club. Are they wrong to try to keep the club solvent during a very uncertain time?

We'll now look to the loan market. Let's see who we bring in.
Exactly. Two loan players as good as the three we had by the end of last season and we will be in reasonable shape. All L1 clubs are in this position - living on the edge

Bosma and Allassani were dirt cheap and almost risk free. One failed spectacularly and one looks also to have failed. Bakayoko (I'm by no means his biggest fan) did a job for us last season. Ogogo and Brown were in a team that finished in the top 6. Ogogo first game of the season looked quality, and for whatever reason never established himself in the first team. Brown never looked particularly bad at all, Mason was just better (through scouting) than anyone expected. I am not saying they get it right every time, but the players you've highlighted are a bit strange.

Still don't get the hate for baka, a goal every 232 minutes for city.

That's 17 goals over the course of a full 46 game season.
Fans would take that wouldn't they?

It wasn't all bad anyway, we had some decent signings.

Plus, people like Allassani and Bosma were very low cost gambles, so can't really slate that. Think Allassani still has a chance anyway, he's recovering from a horrendous injury but is still young enough to make it.

Also most deals are structured in terms of payment so are we sure it will be £2m up front or is it over a longer period? That affects the club's ability to buy in this transfer window. Same with the Chaplin deal

The concern i have with Bayliss going (and £2m isnt a bad fee) is that it leaves the squad thin in terms of depth as it stands when we get the inevitable injuries.

Always going to need to sell players simply to keep the club afloat. Which hints to me that there is no major funds or backing coming from the owners. They remain in my opinion as the "bank of last resort" they have been in recent seasons

Smacks of short termism.

Pull the rug from under the feet of the team with 24 hours to go before first game.

Whatever you think of Bayliss he is an essential part of our team now and the future.

Keep him and we could go up, play Preston next year and be in a better place to stay up with Bayliss still at City.

Lots of ifs and maybes but I know we have more of a chance with Bayliss still at City than without him.

Take the hit SISU and plan for the future.

Was it a direct quote from Robins that we were ‘going for it’ this season or was it just something the telegraph came up with?

I see people saying this whenever we sell a player but surely if most deals are structured the same way then the same will apply to any players coming in.

You would hope so. but it is really just stirring the same pot around to cover player purchases and wages. The most he can spend is 60%. But that is restricted to the timing of funds actually received and the SCMP is reviewed every 3 months ( is my understanding). I think a lot of fans will think the club has £3m to spend now (Bayliss & Chaplin) and there isn't.

There is also the thought that having paid out fees already that these new player sale fees in part are needed simply to balance out the SCMP budget not just provide new funds going forward. If Bayilss has been hawked around as some suggest then that could be a reason.

It isnt about the profit at end of the season it is about the cash flow

The 2018 figures showed a cash flow surplus of £384k only after player sales of £980k and loans from owners £500k. So "normal" trading would seem to indicate an operational cash flow deficit of £1.1m. If we assume that match income will close to halve thats another £1m+ to find but there will be a drop in commercial income too say £500k (possibly more). Then of course there are, i assume, increased costs of operating from St Andrews (increased rent? coach subsidies, set up costs etc) . Could easily be a cash flow shortage of £3m to find. Doesnt leave a lot in the pot for players. Any more than that and that means further loans from the owners it would seem

Not to mention the fact that the reduced match day income and commercial income directly affects what can be spent on players to meet the SCMP in the first place

The finances at CCFC i would think are very very tight

Like Chaplin, I'd be sad to see him go. Loads of potential and in my opinion just got better and better. We'll miss him this season I reckon.

Anyway, this the season that Burroughs starts to make the breakthrough in central midfield? There's now an opportunity there. And Westbrook played a couple last season (if rather anonymously!) so there's a like-for-like replacement who now needs to either step up, or move aside so he's not blocking the path of others.

I was thinking that myself. If Bayliss goes it may give either Burroughs or N'Gandu an opportunity. Whether they'll be good enough to take it is another question but both seem highly rated by the coaching staff.

Which is not the sort of message that has been otherwise implied, and means that any more than a season at St Andrews will be disastrous.

We don't need players with 'bags of potential' in this league. If we are premiership or championship then 'potential' is an asset but in this league we only become 'a stepping stone' or an academy for other higher league clubs.
