Bassette

I'd say that people like Bassette and BTA more because despite their technical shortcomings, they actually look like they could give a fuck, and they allways put a shift in.
Simms haa all the physical attributes to be an absolute beast, but the mentality of a dainty fucking wall flower.
Similar with Wright, he knows he can be a force at championship level, but you know after the first 10 minutes of a game which Wright has turned up.
In short none of our strikers are premier league quality, so id expect 2 to come in and at least 2 to go out before the window shuts.
If we stick with what we have, then I fear we are failing to prepare, and the massive step up in quality will be too much.
I think our strikers will surprise this season. If there's the opportunity to go all out for a player like Openda, we obviously should grab it but think the rest of them can play a decent supporting cast. See Sunderland who signed Brobbey with Isidor chipping in with a decent goal haul.

We need a CF that can play with his back to goal. Strong, can bring others into play. We don't have that. Simms can occasionally step up but that's not his natural game. Going to Arsenal and Man City and infact most away games. You're going to need that kind of player. Frank doesn't mind going direct either.

Bassette was awful pre season last year. Looked like he had never played with a football before and didn’t seem that interested in getting to know one either.

I really hope DaSilva proves a lot of you wrong next season.
Since Lampard arrived he has improved no end,who is to say he won’t cut it in the premier. He is an international full back.
We plays for a very poor Wales team he will get destroyed in the prem he should be the first player replaced, we need lots of power and pace things he doesn’t have

I think some of our fans a bit too sentimental over certain players. We do have a great squad, and a very likeable team, but one that can cut it in the PL? I am not so sure.

If we are going to survive this season, I think we will need to strengthen significantly. I hope we don't think we are good enough and don't go all out to bring players in. I would hate it if we had one shot at this and we end up doing a Burnley. Scoring goals is a massive part of making sure that doesn't happen. Are the strikers we have good enough? It is a big step up.

No, they’re not.

Absolutely not.

I think Wright, for sure will maintain his output from the past few championship seasons. We need to ensure the supply is there IMO.

You could say the same about Simms/ Wright, I wish I could kick a ball as far as he could trap one.
As I said, none of our strikers are PL quality. And what worries me is hearing Doug say the players that got us up, deserve a chance.
To me thats just saying we arnt going to spend what's required to stay up, and we definitely arnt going to start next season with a squad thats likely to survive.

Im not being pessimistic, Im being realistic, the PL is a huge step up in class, and operating at that level week in week out will be too much for our current squad.
Ive counted 8 players out of last seasons squad that I'd keep, which means another 16 need to be added. (Which obviously won't happen) those that do come in will need to be top quality, and will have to drag the rest along with them if we are to have a realistic chance.

I'd use Forrest and Sunderland as an example of how a squad needs to overhauled in preparation for a PL season.
(And even then there's no guarantees)

Forest and Sunderland scraped up through the play offs and clearly required a huge overhaul. Our players by contrast pissed the league. At the moment we don't know how those players that got us up will get on in the PL, but King is right in saying their performances last season deserve a chance to prove themselves. Saying anything different would be a real kick in the teeth for our existing players and to the morale of the squad as a whole. Many 'established' PL players started out in the EFL but would never have got a chance by the reasoning used by many on here so there is a decent chance that a fair few of our current players will become 'established' PL players in due course.

That said we clearly need to raise the level of the squad overall and is something which will happen. New players will be brought in so that those of our players that prove not good enough for the step up to the PL are readily replaced by players that can. At this point there really is no reason to worry. Keep in mind where we have come from these last 10 years and just enjoy the ride!

I have watched the premier league games and come to the conclusion apart from the top 6 teams the rest have a lot of players what I consider no better than what we got promoted with! About 3/4 signings of good quality would see us survive the first season IMO!

I would strongly disagree with that. Do you remember when Ipswich came to us in the cup and played half their 19th placed prem side and slapped us all round the pitch? As levels go up, teams of similar level cancel each other out. You don’t see the quality difference as easily. Spurs finished 17th and have already signed 6 players of a level we can only dream of so we need to catch not only Ipswich and Hull who we failed to even score against last season but a few other teams who at the moment are a long way clear of our squad. We have to be realistic with what we can sign but the task to stay up is very difficult.

The trouble is fans everywhere are addicted to new players. The fact that the selling clubs fans are often just as glad to get rid of said player. If Torp had played last year on the continent, and his highlights had shown Free kicks like Oxford away, Wrexham home, or assists like Derby and Blackburn away. And goals like Watford away or QPR at-home, then we would all be begging King to splash the cash.

This is exactly how I feel about this. We have some real quality in our squad. We didn’t just win the league, we absolutely pissed it.

Forest had had 5 loan players when they got promoted who went back to their parent clubs and they sold their best two players Joe Worrall and Brennan Johnson. They had no choice but to sign a lot of players.

If West Ham’s relegated prem squad was in the Champ last season would they have pissed it? If you think yes, then you know the task at hand. Winning the league isn’t relevant. Getting the right players in is all that matters. Sunderland faired the best of the 3 promoted teams. Where you finished last season doesn’t matter.

I sort of agree with you. But West Ham should not have been in a relegation battle last season. There was a lot wrong at that club and it wasn’t to do with the quality of the players.

And it served them very well.

We have too many players who are unlikely to make an impact in the PL, such as
Wilson, Brau, Bidwell, Kitching, Eccles, Lats, Simms, Bassette etc etc
We cant replace them all due to them being under contract but failure to move most of these on and replace them with better, will leave us with the inevitable outcome come next may.

I'd like to agree with that, but the very fact that our own Frank Onyeka is only here due to not being good enough for (1place above mid table) Brentford would suggest the gulf in class is way bigger than you think.
Add to that the fact that Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham all finished in the bottom half despite multi million pound additions and numerous international standard players, and you can see the size of the challenge that awaits.

I find the "he's an international" argument a bit redundant given bleeding Kastaneer was at this world cup.

Johnson played a Prem season at Forest didn’t he?

It goes to tell me that Newcastle Spurs and Chelsea have paid a shit load of money on some players that are no better than ours. Valuation does not seem to reflect ability IMO!

I'll remind you of that when we've played them.
Im sure they wouldn't swap many of their squad for ours.
