He was Lampard's first choice striker to begin with. He started him in 7 of his first 9 games in charge, much to the detriment of the team. Once he finally got dropped, this coincided with our great run of form. He actually gave him too many chances.

When lampard arrived norman had just turned 20 , the lad cant be expected to lead a top championship teams line game after game .. silly man management

You talk about him like he’s some academy kid, but he was signed for a substantial fee - more than Torp, Sakamoto or Thomas - and he hasn’t delivered on it. I know he’s a young player and he has a lot to learn, but if you spend £2.5 million on a player in the Championship then you should expect them to contribute and Norm never has.

Personally with the lack of cover we have in forward positions I would have kept him around.

Despite that, its clear that Lampard wanted him gone as he really struggled to cope with his personality.

If he leaves us and does really well then the blame will land squarely on Lampards Head

I talk about him like hes a young kid , which is what he is ... we had 4 years to get him to where we wanted him to be

Frank doesn't like his attitude so he's off. End of story really, you can't be keeping a potentially disruptive influence around the group.

Frank also has history of falling out with players , doucoure at Everton who was an influential player too .. as soon as frank left he came back in and played well

Yes he seems to run a very strict ship, his man management for those he doesn't love seems very interesting to say the least.

He's also bought players who were previously seen as bad influences back into the equation, see Kitching. It's not his group, he didn't like Bassette so he's off. It's really not that controversial.

If he’s a young kid who’ll take two years before we even think about him playing effectively in the Championship, why did we spend that kind of money on him? It’s a huge waste of resources when you see how else the money could have been invested.

Clubs spend millions on young players to develop them .. not sure what you mean

We did , because we could
I don’t remember us doing it before, nor can I think of other teams in this league doing it. You must have other examples?

The alternative explanation is that we spent good money on a player we thought would be first-team ready and got it very wrong.

There is nothing wrong with spending decent money to bring a player in with huge potential to develop further.

Belgium clearly have him earmarked as a future potential talent , just because lampard couldn't develop the lad or they had a falling out doesn't change that .

Lampard's predecessor was also a 'my way or the highway' type, which means you get lots out of the players who buy in, but those who don't get frozen out quick.

There is if you overpay for it and it prevents you from strengthening a squad that’s a couple of signings away from promotion.

Anytime you spend £2.5 million on a player in this division, you should expect better than what Norm’s shown us. We’re not Chelsea, this team does not have the financial luxury of stockpiling bets on expensive lottery tickets.

And you know it prevented us from spending more money on the team how ?? You dont , stop making scenarios up to fit your argument

So in your view we can just spend £2.5 million on a youth player without King or Austin having to make any considerations about how it affects our future business?

We spend the money we have available , if it was too much of a risk we wouldnt have spent it .

Its simple really

It was a risk though? The kid is going to spend this season back in the French second division where we found him. We took a sizeable gamble on him and halfway through his four year deal he’s contributed nothing to us. £2.5 million!

Mundle, Jensen Seelt, Mayenda, Milan Aleksic, Pembele, Hemir, Leo Hjelde

And thats just in their last 2 Championship seasons.
And these players all cost £2.5 million and played badly for Sunderland before being shipped out again?

I also don’t think we should pretend that Sunderland’s transfer model is the typical Championship approach - it’s certainly not ours.

Then you also need to blame the people paid by the club handsomely to develop the footballers we buy .

You also have no idea what the buy amount is at the end of the loan

You asked for players that cost in and around what we paid for Bassette who are youth/development signings.

Don't move the goalposts now that I've proven my point.

We've done alright with our development recently haven't we? Some players can only be developed so much as they aren't good enough, which would be a recruitment issue. This happens at every club and i actually think we recruit ok. Alternatively they just don't like his attitude which seems to be more the case, in which case its only going to end one way.

Not sure why there's some sort of witch hunt over Bassette. I thought he looked ok at times but it was a weird signing given the formation we play and the strikers we already had available and honestly we have no idea what goes on behind the scenes to lead to this.

I dont think bassette has been moved on because of his ability though , seems fairly obvious to me he's fell out with frank
