It doesn’t matter about any of that. They are all things someone can fuck up: they can go after the wrong targets, they can negotiate too slowly and not give themselves other options to move to, they can not do any scouting. The long and the short is Austin and Kings job is to ensure the squad is closer to their goal of promotion. The rest is just excuses. We could have accepted bids for BTA, Simms, MvE, etc if funds or wage bills are tight. We could not have offered Wilson Eccles Allen and Bidwell extended contracts if we had no wage budget. We could not have spunked £2m on a terrible striker who has fallen out with every manager he’s had then we could have got rid once he fell out with another two of our managers, but each time King makes decisions consistent with someone who sold a couple of generational players at the start and then lost a valuable player on a free. He’s refusing to let contracts run down for deadwood, won’t get people off the wage bill unless he makes a profit, and demanding the clearly inadequate players he’s provided are good enough because we’ve run out of wage bill before we’ve built a squad that’s promotion competitive.

We’re two games into a new managers first season proper as a promotion contender and we’re talking about repurposing our past it LB as a CB and blooding kids because they looked ok against Luton reserves. This summer has been a disaster in terms of squad building and even if he does pull his finger out now we’ll be paying through the nose and any signings will have missed pre season (though as that seemingly consisted entirely of “lump aimless crosses to no one all game” maybe that’s not the worst thing)
The disappointing thing about the transfer window is that keeper aside (who wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Dovins ACL), our starting line up is still our starting line up from last season. We have added depth at RB and LB, but haven't upgraded or improved our starting line up. Yes we finished 5th last season, but you've got to keep moving forward.

this is the only argument that holds up for me. You want at least one, ideally two that improve the first XI. We've got time to sort it, and we seem to have the cash. Hoping for a mad Haji-esque forward to get announced out the blue next week, and a CB that's as good as Thomas and Kitching. Less than that, it's a bit meh.

I'm glad you have got that of your chest, but most of it is based on twaddle rather than fact.

Is there anything you can take to calm yourself down? 🙄

I think he’s got a point tbf, okay it’s a bit ranty but the last paragraph in his particular is fair enough. You can only judge the window so far on what’s happened up until now, and very little has happened in terms of squad development.

We’ve found a good temporary replacement for an injured keeper, found a replacement for what I assume will be the sale of MVE and bought in a LB that’s yet to show he’s quality in this league (can’t judge him too harshly yet).
Okay it’s an assumption but if we do make the fair assumption that MVE goes then we’ve added 0 players to the squad as we’ve lost Binks and replaced an injured keeper with a keeper. I’m not scared for the season but you can’t really say @shmmeee ‘s argument it’s not factual tbh 🤷🏻‍♂️

There are still 2 weeks of the window left. I doubt that there will be absolutely no more activity.

I think most of us knew we would need money coming in to give us some spending power on targets.

Unfortunately the offers for MVE (who we have brought in a replacement in for) have just not been good enough.

We are always going to be a selling club, but the key is not to under sell them.

Fans say get people in early. Managers want people in early for a full pre season. But all managers know in this day and age buying and selling is dragged out by agents and players.

It is easy to be critical sat on the sidelines when you have no experience of the process.

I’m not having a go here and not even going to argue this one, but you’re a real worrier and it shows 🤣

Firstly we are in a position at the moment of still having the team that finished 5th last season but with a better goalkeeper. Other teams bringing in new players is out of neccessity and doesn't neccessarily strengthen them as is widely thought on here. Stoke have signed a load of players every Summer since they got relegated from the PL but have failed to make the top half in any of them. I've also seen QPR mentioned too, but I woudn't swap places with them either. They are likely to finish bottom half and it wouldn't surprise me to seem them fighting relegation.

Secondly the window hasn't closed yet and until it does this bedwetting is ridiculous. Just enjoy the games now football is back and leave the worrying until we know the final shape of our squad come September. Until then it might be best for the likes of Shmmeee to go and lie down in a darkened room.

Sensible words. Especially on new signings, plenty fail to live up to the hype and expectation.

Also there is the slim chance that some of our existing players could do even better than last season that people seem to overlook…

Yeah that’s fair, I’m not worried for the season but I had hoped for a little more strengthening than we’ve had so far. We’re a good team but to get promoted I do feel we need that extra little bit of star quality both on and off the bench.

Also, I wouldn’t personally call it “bedwetting” just yet, more “concern” 😉

Concerned transfer window incontinence.

Several of our players have development potential. Yes it's nice to introduce two or three quality signings - but you don't want the annual churn over of a squad.

Didn't we bring Frank and his team in for their coaching ability?
